But yeah that is most definitely something I would be interested in for some of my iconic D&D characters from over the years. With the introduction of the game table in DDI it will definitely be possible. Some enterprising person with a business plan should approach Wizards and FigurePrints.

I think WOTC is smart enough to step aside and wait until someone else makes the process more efficient. What do I mean by "more efficient?" From the FAQ of your link, How much do they cost? $99.95 plus $14.95 Shipping and Handling to any address in the US and Canada. For that price, I'll buy the core D&D books, some new minis and/or die, and a round of drinks/snacks for my game table. If you want a $100 mini, more power to you but for me, and most players, I wouldn't pay more than $15-$20 (if that much). BUT, I will say this- it's nice to know there's at least some market for this because when it becomes affordable, table top RPGs in general will benefit immensely. Thanks for being optimistic, even if I'm not at the moment.
#4 theonlyjett Dec 28, 2007 0:01:30	I'm impressed. Making the original 3d models with "3d printing" in mind, they could cut down a lot on the extra hand work done by FigurePrints. Also, this seems a revatively new process, and, as with everything else new, the cost to do it will come down considerably in a year or two. In all, it seams likely that in 5 or so years it could be common for players to have their favorite characters made up like this and even for DMs to have their custom monsters made, too.
#5 warrior-poet Dec 28, 2007 15:12:04	It's an exciting possibility no matter who implements it---just so long as it gets done at a somewhat reasonable price. I probably would not be willing to spend more than $30 per mini. I would think if some company (WoTC or otherwise) got on the D+D bandwagon it would become feasible. I have to assume that there is a LOT more desire for customized D+D minis than WoW minis.
#6 heavensagent Dec 28, 2007 16:10:24	With this process, smaller products are more difficult, and as a result more costly. I doubt we'll see such a service below the $100 mark for some time, at least for D&D miniatures (though I can see statues of similar scale as offered for WoW relatively soon).
#7 lightbear Dec 29, 2007 17:06:46	The figurines showed at that site have about 3 to 4 times the size of warhammer mini's. The mini's from WotC normally have better coloring then what is shown there. Still, I probably would pay that price for my beloved character while fully geared up and doing a decent pose.

Not to mention the wait times would be insane, as is they do random drawings for those WoW ones. This is something I am mostly definitely interested in seeing and it should be a topic of discussion if only to get WotC to look into a way to do it cost efficient while keeping it good quality and not making you wait forever and a day to get one.
#11 zhengyi Jan 26, 2008 9:24:11	I remember collecting all the old D&D figurines as a kid, and think it would be an excellent way to reintroduce their new "Iconic" characters and classes for the 4e game. I've seen plenty of rabid uber collectors who would love more figurines to collect. If they're not individualized they could be pretty cheap ($10-20 range). I think the idea of custom figurines an outstanding idea and would fully support it.

#14 stolide Jan 28, 2008 16:01:24	Just go buy the individual bitz for warhammer and assemple your charecter for no more than 20 dollars. Exaple I have an elf charecter so I go here and pick some pieces I want on my fig, and make sure to get legs, head, arms, and a torso. But maybe I like the human armor better than the elven, so I buy this for the armor and stick on elf weapons and an elf head. Then put it on a base and paint it. It's what I do to get a custom fig every time...
#15 eragon_shadeslayer_c May 09, 2008 8:13:30	I like the idea of this, or building your own by buying seperate parts, only problem is I have never been too great at making or painting figs, so buying one for under 30-40 dollars is a better bet for me, I am just starting to get into the mini part of rping, and am highly considering using this stuff for my 4th edition campaign in June. But unfortunately all I own thus far is the starter set for the 4th edition minis, how should I go about getting a much better array of minis, for a rather cheep price? without Ebay, as I can't do ebay right now
