Apr 21, 2011 17:17:29 Has Wizards released any statement in regard to their focus on particular campaign settings - which seem to be Dark Sun and of course FR - in D&DI? That seems to be the vibe I'm getting specifically from the whole "Eye On" series'. I get that the reason they're doing that is obviously because those must be the most popular settings in 4E, and I wouldn't argue that they shouldn't. I also get that every fringe will have their own desire to see their own particular campaign setting get more focus. So what I would definitely like to see is either perhaps an "Eye On" article every now and then for one of the less popular campaign settings, or a smaller article in that direction covering something brief for all of them. Obviously adventure hooks lean in that direction, but they seem to be far more extensive than they need to be, and thus including only two or three a month. But if they kept the Eyes On Dark Sun and FR, I'd be placated if they made the adventure hooks always on the other settings.

P.S. My preference would be Eberron.

Apr 21, 2011 18:50:26 Forgotten Realms, Eberron, and Dark Sun are the only official campaign settings published for 4E. (I'm not counting the assumed setting, which, given that it is the default for any materials not set in one of the other three, gets a lot of support.)

So two of the three settings are getting a lot of support. I'm not sure why support for Eberron has slowed to a trickle this year. If you look back through Dragon/Dungeon for "Expeditionary Dispatches" is the Eberron equivalent of Eye on X.

The most recent Eberron article I see was a short story in Dragon 394.

I would disagree with this. There is virtually no information about the Nentir Vale and Nerath, though we are starting to see a trickle because of the upcomming Conquest of Nerath board game. However, that information is mosre historical rather than recent.

Ravenloft is no longer a setting. The Domains of Dread have been moved from their own demi-plane to the Shadowfell. Although Barovia has not been detailed for 4e most of the previous material can be used and I believe the relevant monster stats and so forth are available in Open Grave. Several interesting domains have been detailed in the Domains of Dread feature in the magazines.

From what we've seen, direct support doesn't tend to come out for other campaign settings, but related content might - such as, as mentioned above, the Domains of Dread. Technically they are core 4E content, but they obviously support a Ravenloft campaign. (I imagine plenty of content in Heroes of Shadow and the Shadowfell set that are coming out will as well).

We also know that they had planned to release a Ravenloft game at the end of the year, but cancelled or delayed the product. So we may see it eventually, or we may see content developed for it show up as releases in the magazines.

We've seen some similar elements with Spelljammer, as well, in that the Astral Sea and planar ships and similar content provide support for such a campaign without explicitly being released as a campaign setting.
