| #1netariousAug 04, 2009 12:46:31 | When you choose any background option the program crashes. |
| #2OraibiAug 04, 2009 12:49:37 | Same for me, tested it twice, send in the bug report -- choosing a background category (e.g. "General") causes the program to crash. (On Vista 64, chose Dragonborn -> Cleric -> General = Crash!) |
| #3axeljaninjaAug 04, 2009 12:52:02 | Same here, I've tried to make a Dragonborn Paladin and a couple other characters, and they all crashed when I tried to choose a background. |
| #4andrewjaAug 04, 2009 12:53:41 | Yep same for me. Clicking on a source such as Eberon or Scales of War is fine but if you double click or click the Choose X button then in crashes. Windows 7 RC. |
| #5hattrickAug 04, 2009 12:56:00 | Tossing my hat in too, same problem here, trying any background crashes things. |
| #6axeljaninjaAug 04, 2009 13:01:41 | Character Builder crashes for every background I select, and it seems like there's duplicates of the backgrounds. For example, there are 6 sets of "Forgotten" "Scales" "Eberron" and "General". Holy crap, this is getting bothersome. |
| #7sirvimesAug 04, 2009 13:02:33 | Getting the crash if I click on the Choose button. No crash when I doubleclick on the selections. Also, for some reason, I see six Choose a Background sections. |
| #8OreAug 04, 2009 13:08:36 | Confirmed. Clicking the 'Choose' button will crash the problem but double clicking on the choice works just fine. I also see 6 instances of the Background list as well. Even when I double click the background the benefit options are thrown up above the 6 listings and not below like they normally are. Yeah, the code in this section was messed up during the update. Additional Information: Un-choosing a background has the same effect. It crashes the program |
| #9wyrdlyngAug 04, 2009 13:14:10 | Another note of unable to choose background as well. |
| #10-Lumi-Aug 04, 2009 13:14:35 | I bet it's a Windrise Ports problem. |
| #11mudbunnyAug 04, 2009 13:29:35 | I have poked WotC about this problem. |
| #12rczarnecAug 04, 2009 13:38:36 | Related problem - If a character already has a background, it is ignored. No bonuses show up in the skills for the background and if a skill was selected that was allowed based on background, it is now listed as houseruled. |
| #13enigmashockAug 04, 2009 13:42:33 | Came here to say that. |
| #14djkesterAug 04, 2009 13:44:49 | I'm getting the same exception error when choosing a background. |
| #15ganarothles_dupAug 04, 2009 13:45:53 | Yup, another voice in the throng of background crashes. Sad. |
| #16cantuseAug 04, 2009 13:46:30 | Getting it too, very reproducible. Will WotC hotfix an issue of this magnitude? |
| #17DahrikAug 04, 2009 13:48:58 | Another confirm for the background selection crash. Order of chosen options in this instance:
|
| #18The_ArchitectAug 04, 2009 14:05:05 | We have been investigating the issue and have determined that the bug is specifically in the "Choose" button. For the short term, you can work around this issue by double clicking the background instead of selecting it then pressing Choose. |
| #19glugAug 04, 2009 14:21:01 | Potentially related (not about to click Choose right now), but I have 6 copies of options for those backgrounds (win xp pro sp3).![]() |
| #20aeaasAug 04, 2009 14:37:58 | Potentially related (not about to click Choose right now), but I have 6 copies of options for those backgrounds (win xp pro sp3). I think they are adding a separate [Section] for each potential background you can choose because you can choose up to 6 backgrounds. Also it seems that you no longer only get to choose the benefit from the first background only, it combines them all and lets you choose 1 from the total list at the top. Hopefully this will be an easy fix like the gold problem was last month. I usually double click all selections anyways, but I would think that many also click the choose buttons, and when your accustomed to one way, remembering to workaround a bug can be problematic. | #21vhexAug 04, 2009 14:39:53 | The multiple background options fill the "Slots" on your character background. Once you've filled "slots" with your backgrounds you can now choose which one you want your background benefit to come from by scrolling up to the top and selecting "Background Benefit" which is why your previously saved characters don't have the benefit of their background. Just selecting "Background Benefit" will give it back to them. If you're stuck on not being able to remove your background due to the crash you can get around it in this order: 1.) Unchoose your background (Luskan) 2.) Unchoose your background category (Forgotten Realms) 3.) Double click the background category you want (Forgotten Realms) 4.) Double click the background you want (Luskan) 5.) Choose the Background Benefit (Luskan Benefit) |
| #22vilisAug 04, 2009 15:16:33 | I'm getting the exact same problem. My character builder crashes whenever I hit the choose button when selecting the background. |
| #23The_ArchitectAug 04, 2009 19:22:22 | A hot fix is now live that solves the background choose button crash. Key count usage is reset with the update so you will not lose any key usages. |
| #24lcjunkieAug 05, 2009 0:21:36 | Yup. I was prompted for a new update and its working perfectly now. I really like the new backgound set up. I can choose up to six ackgrounds and then choose a benefit from any one of them. Awesome! |
| #25OreAug 05, 2009 18:00:12 | Thank you for fixing this problem promptly. ![]() |
| #26vitkiravenAug 05, 2009 20:46:42 | I haven't had teh crashing problem, but it won't allow a character to get to different multiclass feats. Is this pre patch or post? |
