I received and email from WotC that the Character Builder Beta was available for download. I was expecting this email, since I had signed up to beta at the D&D Xperience.

I happily followed the link, only to find that I need to subscribe to DDI to download? I thought I would have access to the beta independent of whether I was a DDI subscriber due signing up earlier?

Am I missing something, or will I have to miss out playing with the beta (I'm not able to subscribe to DDI at the present time)?

Any thoughts, similar experiences, or response from a WotC-er.

One of my friends is a non-subscriber who is testing the beta. I don't think you have to subscribe, though you may still need to sign-in to DDI?

You have to be working for WOTC, have a freind at WOTC, signed up at DnD experence, or subscribe to DDi to get the beta right now. I heard next month is when WOTC is going to make the beta public.

But people that get the beta can install it on any number of computers. So if you have a friend that subscribed and decides he wants to install it on your computer in case his drive crashes, nothing stoping them from doing that. ;)

To the OP, where you signed in on the page? As a subscriber I can tell you that the website has atleast two versions of that page. When redirected via my e-mail i got the same subscribe to download link. So I scrolled up, signed in and when the page reloaded there was a download link instead.
