| #1AvonRekaesJun 02, 2009 17:47:04 | What gives? I just updated and it doesn't display my eladrin swordmage character. I browse for him and when I find and try to open him, I get an error message: Character Load Failure Don't give me that BS! Where's my LFR character?! |
| #2retsej_esiwJun 02, 2009 21:24:10 | I had this problem too. There's something up with the Character builder update and I think it has to do with spell books and the like. I posted about it here. http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=1198232 Did your character have a spellbook? Take Student of Sword Magic (not limited to that feat)? For a temporary fix, while waiting for WoTC's technical department to get their act together, do what I did. Create a copy of the file, open it with notepad or a text editor, search for alternate and delete from where that line starts up to and including . Save that editted copy and see if that works. Once again back up the character before you do this. This will delete your power selections for your spellbook (your extra dailies) and you'll have to choose them again. |
| #3thx472Jun 02, 2009 21:49:19 | I have the same problem AvonRekaes has: Character Load Error with at three of my characters. One is a wizard and two are swordmages. retsej_esiw's fix worked for the swordmage characters, but not for the wizard. Anyone got any other ideas? I really like the character builder, but it starting to seem like I have to mess with it with every update. That has to stop, espicially if Wizards wants more of my money for D&DI |

Funny, it worked with my wizard. You can send the file to me and I'll take a look at it. MSN : gth669h@mail.gatech.edu AIM: jamesjonasgraves This is by far the most buggy release of the character builder I have seen. Even more buggy than the beta was. Try to create a level 30 character from scratch and it tries to choose your powers out of order. I am highly disappointed in this release and this raises grave concerns as to whether the programmers have their act together (or the managerial team) (and yes, being a programmer, I know what I'm talking about). |

| #6thx472Jun 03, 2009 16:52:24 | Thanks for the fix, but my swordmage didn't take Student of Sword Magic. Any ideas? My swordmages didn't take that feat either, but it still worked. |
| #7thx472Jun 03, 2009 16:56:15 | Funny, it worked with my wizard. You can send the file to me and I'll take a look at it. I think I'll try it again, it was getting late when I tried it on the wizard, so maybe I deleted a tag I shouldn't have. I'm a programmer as well, so I know what you mean. It makes you wonder if there's any regression testing at all. |
| #8thx472Jun 03, 2009 19:32:18 | Ok, I got the wizard to work. I opened the dnd4e file in XML Notepad to make it a little easier to read. This time, I deleted all of the alternate tags except for the ones where the RulesElement child tag of an alternate tag had information about a power; this would be the power in the Spellbook, etc. Once I did this, I could open the character, although, I did notice when I went back into the dnd4e file, all the alternate tags were gone, and I still had powers marked SPELLBOOK. Thanks very much for your help. |
