Dear Wizards,
I'd like some content on mondays, and no "coming up this week" isn't content. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Your paying customer.

I don't necessarily mind this new content calendar format but I'd really like it if there weren't dead days. It's kind of a drag!

And maybe put out the 'upcoming content' notification on Friday, instead?

Here here... i used to check the site on a daily basis and have a read of what was on offer, now im lucky if i even check it once a week, the content is terrible when there is any.. to say things have slipped is a huge understatement..

So, this is a failure every week thus far to post on the content calendar showing the content for the week.

But then they'd have nothing at all to post on monday Wink

They did tell us that the month of January would see very erratic updates to the calender, and that more then likely they won't have content every day, sometimes several days in a row.

Also, there isn't any guarentee articles will always go up early in the morning.

Having said that, they do seem to be still at the wrong end of working things out, meaning, we are mostly through January, and you would think things would be running smoother, as they get used to the new system.

Content is usually up between 2 and 5 PM central time, at least in my experience. Also Dane, that is comforting news, I hope it proves true.

On one hand, I agree with Dane's comment. On the other, publishing the list of articles for the week on Monday, and then not posting any content (exclusive content, I mean. I'm really happy for the Character generation for kids article, but it's free) is somewhat cruel.

I was hoping we'd be back up to daily articles, posted first thing, and full content (40+ subscriber articels a month) for next month.  I'm doubting this will be the case, but I'd like an idea of how long that will be (particularly the number of articles 23 is a joke; we used to get that in one magazine.)

Yeah, they've got one more week in the month, then their "bear with us" is gone. Especially since they have burned a lot of good will in the past 3-4 months...

You mean like when they couldn't get any content up because of the snowstorms?

To be fair, Seattle has abysmal snow management.  Their primary plan is "no one go anywhere for a few days, it will melt eventually."  Some times you get in your car, have a relatively normal commute, until you get to a hill (which the Seattle area is filled with much the same as San Francisco) and you are stuck behind a line of cars who can not get up the hill.

In one 18 inch snow storm, I made it from Milwaukee to Chicago in normal time, but as soon as I got off the freeway, it took me 3 hours to go 10 miles.  There are a lot of yahoos who do not know how to drive in snow and who wait until after winter to buy new tires, not before.

If some one is in their car attempting to commute, their attention will be on driving safely, not posting articles.  I have many friends in Seattle and know they have all had difficulty commuting in some of the snow storms this year.

Except the delay wasn't because of a storm in Seattle, it was because of a storm in New York, and apparently that means the internet doesn't work like a week after the snow storm.

Well, New York is pretty amazing. I can understand why it effects the rest of the country.

I'm not going to even bother trying to explain this. Suffice it to say that in a perfect and simple world, working from the internet is always an option.

The world we live in is neither simple nor is it perfect.

I think the point isn't that Wizards should be castigated for that one thing.  It's just one in a very long chain of "bear with us" moments.  At least some of those are almost certainly code for "we aren't allocating enough manpower to do what we said we'd do."  Yes, that happens sometimes.  But it's not unreasonable for people who are paying a monthly subscription fee to have expectations based on promises and/or past performance.  Particularly when they're hiking up the subscription price.

Reading through Hasbro's financial announcements from the last year, it looks like Q2 2010 was way worse than they thought it would be, and that layoffs in Q3 and Q4 would be more signifigant than expected.  I have to assume that would include WotC: the same articles note that Pokemon is doing well and MTG is pulling it's weight again, but there's no mention of D&D anywhere (it seems the only thing they mentioned are product lines that do wel or break even: nothing is ever noted as something that's in the red, yet the company is losing money... guilt by omission?  Hard to say.)

We know they did a big shakeup in late 2009, replacing most of their head writers and project leads, with Essentials being the result.  Did Essentials do well, but too little, too late for Hasbro?  Did it tank, and Hasbro's now pulling the plug to let it die a slow death?

Could be an explanation: DDI announced what it could do based on their current manpower, but then they lose alot of manpower, and something has to give.  Of course they can't come out and say "Yeah, that stuff we said we'd do?  Not gonna happen" because everyone would quit right then, they've gotta do the corporate spin dance and slowly draw back products and features with reasonable excuses until we've got nothing left.

It's also possible that, compared to Magic and Pokemon, D&D isn't worth mentioning either way. That has always been the impression I got of the "relative weighting" of the brands (that is, D&D is never mentioned in financial reports, except in the part where they say "Wizards of the Coast produces Magic, Pokemon, and...um...oh, that D&D thing too."

Ya, for a while there i though they would only release the Weeks Release List, which would have been BEYOND ridiculous.

Not that an editorial is true content, especially since there are no longer any magazines to speak of.

Remember when you could reliably toodle over to the website at midnight and find an article there waiting for you?  Might not have been good or useful, but more often than not it was there.

Well, yeah.  As long as it's on time, who cares whether it's good or not.

I would prefer WotC to take a different stance on publications.

Make it good, release it when it's done.  Blizzard does this exceptionally well.  When's Diablo 3 coming out again?

Oh, I'm not disagreeing... given my druthers, I'd like the content to be well developed, relevant, and timely. Going from one-out-of-three to none-out-of-three is still a downgrade, regardless of if the previous experience wasn't all that great.

Given that the general direction for almost all of DDI seems to be moving towards online, I keep hoping that WotC management will figure out how to operate effectively in that arena.

(Hint: WotC_Management, how you're doing it now is not it.)

How much has diablo 3 made so far? You charge a monthly fee, you should put out something decent and timely.

You're D3 comment is very true. I love the Diablo series and am eagerly awaiting D3. However I have no problem with it taking forever and even for Blizzard to delay it. Because they have set a track record that when it comes out its of high quality and their customers have full faith in them.

A company can have a product late OR have it poorer quality then their customers expected and the customer base as a whole can be forgiving. But when both happen its just bad for customer retention.

Wow….this was started in January.  It is now March 13th and the only thing up for the month of March is an editorial that mostly discusses the editor’s weekend plans.

Perhaps the horrible events in Japan on Friday and their ramifications for the Pacific Northwest will be blamed…

However even with Friday being a potential problem it still points to the fact that the only material in Dragon on March 10th was an editorial that offered very little to those of us who currently play 4E.

Wow. I am getting the feeling that I can’t complain about lack of promised content since the organizations answer to those complaints has been to remove any sense of promise or commitment.

I suppose I can’t think in terms of deadlines and commitments from this corporation and can instead marvel at the ability of the DDI staff to anwser complaints about customer service by dropping deadlines while lowering and removing standards

Should the thread title be changed to "Can we get some content on Monday, and Tuesday, and Wednesday, and Thursday, and Friday?" or just "Can we get some content?"

Across the two magazines we've had 4 articles in 10 days, two of those were editorials and another was Adventure Hooks (none Insider content). You can't count the rest of the articles that came out in the last two weeks because they were actually February's content.

D&D XP wasn't a surprise party.  Trade shows and events are part of most industries and the professionals I have worked with simply planned for such events in advance so thier customers would be taken care of.

I respect the need for vacations, trade events, weekends at wargaming conventions, however this isn't a "blog" or a fan sight and these people are paid by subscribers.

Professionals prepare they don’t use events as excuses to not do quality work or produce content.
