cant get our Goliath Barbarian to "arm"

was helping my cousin role up a character this weekend using character builder.

Up till now we have never had this problem but it seems to only be doing it with this character so not sure if it is a bug or not but I cant find a rule that would prevent it.

anyway the problem is we created a Goliath Barbarian and when I purchase a weapon for him and put it in the hand slot and we go look at the character sheet it shows him unarmed and wont "arm" him and put any of the stats in the power cards either. Under attack workspace both melee and ranged show unarmed as well. Armor and other slots do work just not the hand slot.

I have built about 15 characters previously with no issue on that and doing some other test characters it works fine but not with this particular class and race. Is this a bug or something we dont know about this race or class?

Any help would be appreciated since we play this Friday.

Ok, just tried making a basic fighter and the same thing, wont let me arm him with a sword on the character sheet. I can put the sword in the slot but nothing.

armor is working

Is there something different to do to arm them?

what weapon specifically are you trying to arm him with?

EDIT: Holy giant errors, batman.

There's definitely something going on. I would mention that a lot of the barbarian's powers key off of 'two handed weapons'. As a note, this DOES NOT include one handed weapons wielded in two hands, so no broadswords. Stick a fullblade in his hands and see what happens.

That being said, when I tried to replicate this 'bug' based on the limited information provided, I got something really interesting. after equipping a broadsword in both hands, I bought a falchion. However, the option to equip the falchion never appeared in the CB. So I got rid of the broadsword. The option to equip the falchion still did not appear, however, my damage calculation read as though it were equipped.

tried a great axe and just a sword, any on some sample characters now none of them arm. Just shows unarmed in my character sheets when I open them up nor do any of the power cards show the weapons on them

see the post I found on here called "Equiping Weapons?"

same issue but the "solution" didnt help me.

thoughts?

See my post in the other thread you mentioned. It would also help if you posted the SUMMARY of this character from the character builder. This way we can see how you built him and what items you have purchased.

Another thing is is to not open the character sheet until you have finished all of the steps. If you open it in the middle of all of this and you have not purchased weapons etc it will just show you the default "Unarmed" attacks.

And needless to say but I am assuming you are using a valid not pirated copy of the program? I had someone at the game shop using a pirated copy and it had all kinds of problems. He kept coming to me asking me does yours do this etc. Eventually he admitted it was a pirated copy, since we could not duplicate the problems with my copy that happened in his.

I will try your suggestions, although this seems like a large pain in the butt when Im paying a fee for dnd insider and no it is not a pirated version, never had this problem till the last update so opening and closing was never an issue before.

and I could post 10 character configurations all different and all doing the same thing so its not an issue of understanding how to build a character, something is not working properly.

If it worked before I shouldnt have to click on each power card but to get by when Im paying for a product that worked before. for now Ill do it.

That helps with the cards but the attack workspace doesnt show proficiencies etc..

Seems like a major glitch in the program to me, which again after doing a bunch of characters over the last few months and never having this problem, I would say it should be fixed soon.

The builder has always done this when you opened the character sheet previous to finishing the character, or at a minimum purchased and equipped your weapons. From day 1 it has done this.

And you need to go to the attack workspace and do the same thing as the power cards.

Just create the character brand new from scratch and follow my advice. I just created a Goliath Barbarian and armed him with a Greatsword, Greataxe, Broadsword and other weapons. They all equipped. And when I opened the character sheet at the end, they all showed as well.

There is a reason that there is a next button on the builder. It takes you thru the natural progression for making your character. The last step is viewing the character sheet.

well I find it hard to believe that I created about 12+ characters luckily without opening them and they all still worked but Ill give it a shot.

Also I didnt always follow the NEXT button because I was adding in characters that we played with on paper before it came out and was constantly checking things to make sure it was right with no problems, so Id have to disagree with you.

Appreciate your help, but I have to respectfully disagree, Ill do as you said and open it after Im all done and let you know how it goes.

It really doesnt matter how you go about creating the characters as long as you dont open the character sheet until after you have at the minimum purchased or added weapons.

Try it out. Go choose race and class and then open the character sheet see what you get. Then go and choose create new again and choose race and class, go add a weapon then open the character sheet.

I went all the way through, I think it is having an issue after adding feats or powers.

It didnt work.

I even did the purchase/add weapon and equipped them and didnt work.

Im telling ya, I have done 12+ other characters and no issue like this its got to be a bug. Im not the smartest guy on the planet but I also know Im not stupid.

Well dont know what to tell you I guess. I just created the above Goliath with several different weapon combos and it works just fine for me.

Not saying that you are stupid.

But did you shut down the program and restart it before making this character? If the problem persists it might need to be uninstalled and reinstalled.

You can always email me the character file if you like.

Not sure if this would matter but did you have Goliath as a house ruled option before this last update?

so it would seem if I customize it, at least it only gives me the options I have so I have to put in manually but I dont have to calculate it manually then?

that is livable for now, still think it should be automatic.

thanks

K: "What kind of sword"
DS: "Just a sword"
K: "But what KIND of sword. There's nothing labled "Sword" in the CB"
DS: "Maybe not your copy nyah nyah nyah"

non magical is what I was getting at but I tried daggers, short sword, great sword, staffs, just to try all kinds and see if the great axe was the problem.
