Cant pick any powers in Character Builder

Hey, I just subscribed and when I tried making a character (Human Elementalist, although this happens for a bunch of classes) it doesn't let me pick any powers. The 'power' tab on the left is orange, and no powers appear for me to pick.

 

If I click "Choose for me" it still adds random powers to the character sheet, I just can't pick my own. 

Does anyone know how to fix this?

 

edit: I'm also using the "custom" thing for creating these characters, instead of "new", if that makes a difference.
