ok, so just got my scip, and was wading through CB and notice that I could add custom content such as classes and powers and such. well thats great, one problem. When adding a class or power or any thing realy how in the world do you do all the mechanics and functions of that element. For instance if I want to add a custom class how do I designate skills, powers, healing surge stats... )

Is there a tutorial on this or did I miss somthing in the prog itself?

How to phrase it ...

You can tell the CB you have custom content to fill a space on the sheet (like 'race' or a feat line), but it has no capability to actually enter the custom content and add it to the character sheet.

Does WotC have any plans to upgrade the customization features od the CB? Gives us a lot more options to add custom content including classes, races, spells, etc; please!

I hope so.

But to be honest that seems to be the purview of the Adventure Tools - the DM makes the powers etc, and hands you over a file that you can then use in the character builder that does everything properly.

I'd like to just be able to build dieties, give them their channel divinity feats and assign them domains.

The problem is that unless i'm missing something, the way the CB works now, you can't even access the domains until you pick a diety. If you have your own pantheon your cleric is just out of luck. Either the domain feats need to be able to show up without a deity selection or else we need to be able to add our pantheon to the CB.

It's a bummer, although with a bit of fiddling you can get the domain feats you want into a character. First thing is enter the custom name of a god, watch the character builder tell you the character's been houseruled and that it has illegal options.

Next go to the feats page, right click on the house icon at the top of the page and choose "show illegal elements." Every feat in the game is now available for selection. Choose the domain feat of the players choice.

Problem is that you then loose the character builder's checking. You can't easily tell if the player's nerfed something by accident as the houseruled warning will show up for evermore.

Basically it's a workaround for those of us that would like to use domain feats but the suckage coefficient is pretty large.

Cheers,

Ash

Do note that if you actually click the "Status: houseruled" thing, you get a list of all the houseruled items in the "character status" box, so you can still check.

I know, it sounds like just whinging but having to manually check everytime you've changed something is not what computers/automation were intended for. Ideally what I'd like to be able to do is say "Yup, these changes are okay, anything else is not" and let the program sort it out for me.

Doubt it'll happen though.

I just wish it was possible to set up different stat setups.  I like to let my players start with 8, 8, 10, 10, 10, 10 and then instead of getting 22 points they get 24.  It is a minor change but one that gives more options.  The only problem is if anyone wants to keep two scores at 8 then it will forever more show as houseruled.  Even just having the ability to click the houseruled and go to the list and then right click one of the items and tell it to ignore would be enough (as long as it saved that for future).

I feel the same way about languages.  Yes, you can add custom languages to CB, but there's no way to (for instance) make a dwarf that knows anything but common and dwarven.  What if a dwarf was raised by elves and has had no contact with dwarven society?  What if there are multiple dwarf languages?

I certainly hope they will eventually provide a means to correct these things, be it in CB itself or in Adventure Tools.  Given their recent push with dungeon/dragon articles focusing on the idea that DMs should not get hung up on the canon of the D&D universe, it would be great to have the tools to modify that canon where necessary without being forced to give up the convenience and reliability of CB.

There is probably a background you can take to resolve the language issue.  I think it's one from Dragon.

As an aside, how do you amend the character background that appears on the character sheet now?  Previously, you could enter your own text.  Do you need to enter your own text before choosing the mechanical backgrounds?

An option I would like for homebrew campaigns is to change the point buy value from 22 to whatever the DM wants to use for their campaign (e.g. 24 points).  Right now I have to buy using 22 points, they manually up one or two stats knowing whether it will cost 1 or 2 points.
