Dwarven Scale magic armor values being added incorrectly to characters.

Repro
1. start the CB
2. create a Level 1 human warrior with an 18 dexterity and all other stats 10
- dump any left over stat points into Charisma so you can proceed
3. add a the following to the character
- Scale Armor (non magical)
- Dwarven Scale +1 (base scale armor no masterwork materials)
- Dwarven Scale +2 (base scale armor no masterwork materials)
- Dwarven Scale +3 (base scale armor no masterwork materials)
- Dwarven Scale +4 (base scale armor no masterwork materials)
- Dwarven Scale +5 (base scale armor no masterwork materials)
- Dwarven Scale +6 (base scale armor no masterwork materials)
4. have no other items equiped
5. note your AC before equiping any armor.
6. equip Scale Armor and note AC (should be 15)
7. equip normal Scale Armor and note AC (should be 17, actual is 17)
7. equip Dwarven Scale +1 and note AC  (should be 18, actual is 18)
8. equip Dwarven Scale +2 and note AC  (should be 19, actual is 20)
9. equip Dwarven Scale +3 and note AC (should be 20, actual is 22)
10. equip Dwarven Scale +4 and note AC (should be 21, actual is 24)
11. equip Dwarven Scale +5 and note AC (should be 22, actual is 26)
12. equip Dwarven Scale +6 and note AC (should be 23, actual is 29)

Actual:
The Dwarven Scale magical armor of +3 and higher is adding to the armor class erroniously

Expected:
The magic item to properly add to the character's armor class.

Note:
Level 1 human warrior
No Feats
18 Dex
Nothing equipped but the armor.

---
I updated the repro to specify not selecting masterwork material type for the magic armors.

CB automatically adds in the bonus for masterwork armor.

Very common question.  See here for a similar case.

Your AC is calculating correctly.

I read the thread linked. The problem is not the same but I see how it could be thought of the same.

I never change the material type of the scale mail its always the basic lowest level material.

The CB could be adding it in erroniously obviously.

Try the repro steps I outlined above and see for youself.

I will also edit the post to state what 'type' of armor you should be selecting before the magic quality.

You can do that all you like, but the answer has been given for you by two different people.  Whether or not you choose to accept said answer is out of our control, but that does not make it any less true.  Online CB automatically adds the bonus for masterwork armor whether you pick it or not.

This question has been getting asked at least once a day lately.  I'd be nice if it got stickied.  The problem is that some people see this in the CB and don't realize that the rules for armor bonus for magic armor changed since Essentials and are described in the "Heroes of..." books.  Maybe they don't own the books.  I don't think you'll find this rule anywhere in DDi, cause it's not really a complete rules source as such.

Starting after Essentials, all magic armors give the same armor bonus for a given type and enhancement bonus/level.

The table that outlines this is in both Heroes of the Forgotten Kingdoms page 345 and Heroes of the Fallen Lands page 344.  All scale armor +2 or higher gives a higher armor bonus than normal scale.

Regular scale gives a +7 armor bonus and +0 enhancement bonus for a toral of +7.
+1 scale gives a +7 armor bonus and +1 enhancement bonus for a total of +8.

Here's where it gets different.

+2 scale gives a +8 armor bonus and +2 enhancement bonus for a total of +10
+3 scale gives a +9 armor bonus and +3 enhancement bonus for a total of +12
+4 scale gives a +10 armor bonus and +4 enhancement bonus for a total of +14
+5 scale gives a +11 armor bonus and +5 enhancement bonus for a total of +16
+6 scale gives a +13 armor bonus and +6 enhancement bonus for a total of +19.

Other types of + X armor (cloth, leather, hide, chainmail and plate) also have a higher than base armor bonus as well but they use different tables and don't increase at the same rate as scale.  For example, +6 plate gives you a +14 armor bonus and +6 enhancement bonus for a total of +20 to AC, not +14.

Keep in mind that while this is the general rule there ARE types of masterwork armor that do NOT follow this progression (listed in Adventurer's Vault, for example).  They will instead give a lower armor bonus than normal in exchange for some other benefit like a NAD bonus or damage resistance.  To get those you have to specifically choose that type of masterwork armor in the CB, though, so you'll KNOW if you're using those or not.

That's the way she works!  Enjoy your new higher AC guilt-free!
