Why? the Answer is always the same:

Try contacting CS, clearing your browser cache, and praying they will get the OCB bug free sometime before 5E comes out...

When posting a bug report like this, the pertinent details would be:

OS and version (Windows 7, MacOSX, etc.)
Browser and version for every browser that you've tried
Reported version of the CB when you launch it
Whether the problem occurs with every PC you try to save or only a specific one or specific ones
How many characters you currently have saved in the OCB

I could go on, but the point is just saying "It doesn't work" isn't particularly helpful.

There is too much now to go on, now that it is online.  It needn't just be the PC anymore.  ISP, customers router/LAN, other network connections, dropped packets, etc.  All stuff that regular people do not even think about.  There is just too much stuff now and it will always be - works fine for me, must be something with you, your network, your ISP etc.

You guys have got to realize that there are regular people here that that are having problems that do not know anything about computers.  When they try to save a character and it freezes, the only thing that they know is it doesn't work.  Jsut like when they try to use the microwave to make popcorn - the outcome is the same.

I would suggest reloading the character builder. I suspect that by going to the webpage and hitting CTRL-F5, it would do it.

If that doesn't work, try shutting down your browser completely and starting up again.

Try a different browser.

How many slots do you have left online to save your characters?

Clear your cache. If that doesn't work, try exporting and deleting your characters one by one until it works and then importing all the characters except the last one you exported.

If it still doesn't work try updating Silverlight.

In all honesty, the character is "saved" after every step of the process so I doubt the problem is with sending data back and forth. It's probably a corrupt app install or a corrupt character.
