Today.  Sometime within the next 12 hours or so.  Man, people are being incredibly impatient for this update!  This is like the fifth thread like this.

Well, if they'd just go ahead and put it out there earlier than the 'deadline' there wouldn't be time for these threads.

Of course, next month we'd start the threads earlier, but change them to "Is it coming early?".

The cult of "Are we there yet?" is an ancient order that will not be denied.  Founded by the golden locked smurf of ancient lore, the cult will not be denied our practice of the divinely mandated task of asking when things will come before they are due to be there.

Have you responded yet?

Maybe that's because there's so much stuff that was broken in the March update that people are eager to see fixed?

Also, this is the update with PHB3 content, which I'm sure some folk are eager to see included.

I'm just glad so many people are excited to play with the PHB3 material.  Reading the forums you start to think people just hated the book.  I personally thought most of it was exemplary, and the parts I didn't like were still noteworthy.

Anyone else having trouble downloading the new update?  I've been downloading for over an hour and the progress bar isn't budging.

Is it just me or is the "Superior Implement Training" feat missing? The superior implements are in but I can't find the feat to use them.

Also, Versatile Expertise is very unintuitive.  Took me 5 minutes to figure out how to get it to work.

They have their own section at the bottom of the feats.

So the Assassin article didn't make it in?  That means I have to wait yet another month to build my Hybrid Assassin?

This extensive delay between Dungeon and Dragon publishing and their listing in the CB/Compendium really is quite frustrating from a player standpoint.  Something comes out, I read it, get interested, then sit on my hands for 2 months.  It really isn't part of D&D until it is incorporated int the CB/Compendium.  Until then it is an exception, an outsider, something that does not fit with the rest of the player materials.

Ah, I see.

Then the Superior Implements are bugged for the Monk, since a Monk can use Staffs as Implements but has not the option to choose any Superior Staff Implement.

Well allowing illegal elements is a temporary workaround though, but it would be nice to have this fixed.

Shaoiken,

I don't have the PH3 in front of me, but I play an Assassin and recall that Superior Implements were useless to me as well.  That was because my implements were Ki Focuses.  They could be any weapon I am proficient in.  I believe that they still differentiate between the Staff Weapon and Staff Implement.

Check the wording on the Monk use of Implements and the entry about Superior Implements towards the back of the PH3.  I suspect that Monks can not use them and it would indeed be a house rule if you wanted to allow it.

PHB3 Page 62:

Unlike the Assassin a Monk is not bond to Ki Foci. Also an accurate staff is a very nice choice since all monk powers are Implement attacks, combine with Staff of Ruin for total win.

I suspect that in theis case the line that is going to give you trouble is "Weapons with which you have proficiency".  Again, WotC considers a Staff Weapon and a Staff Implement to be two different objects.  A staff Implement, as used by a Wizard, is eligable to be a Superior Implement.  A Staff Weapon, as a Monk is able to use as an Implement, is not eligable to be a Superior Implement.

This who thing sort of hinges on that Weapon/Implement distinction, but I believe WotC has been more clear on that the last few months, though still not clear enough.

No they don't. If this would be the case Weapon Focus (staff) and other Weapon based features wouldn't apply to Implement attacks with a staff, but they do.  Also all classes proficient in staff implements can use magic quarterstaffs as implements.  So there's no difference. Staff Implement = Quarterstaff.

Also consider PHB1 Page 241: Only the implement proficiency makes a quarterstaff a staff (implement), but without it, it is still a quarterstaff.

Thanks for the help!!!!

Hey Gargoyle,

The group I play in often takes the same issue and we have begun just making houserule edits in the CB and changing things where necessary. Often times it requires a bit of whiteout and a lil tweaking here and there but it's never more then an extra five minutes of work. I know that can be a pain in the butt but remember that back in the day, there was no decent CB for previous editions that kept as up to date as this one does. So just bear with it and no that it could be worse. =)

You take the Versatile Expertise feat under heroic feats and then have to choose the weapon and implement in the class section and not like the other expertise feats choose directly in the feat section.

There was a dragon article with superior dagger implements. Don't remember which one, but its in 385 I'm pretty sure.

Anyone else missing Armor or Shield Proficiency feats on the PHB3 classes?  I'm trying to whip up a Battlemind and an Ardent and neither has the option available.  Not saying I'm taking it, but can they not take those feats for some reason?

Your battlemind as a CON based melee attacked doubtless doesn't have the required STR to get those feats thusly they are not listed.
