Apologies if this has already been addressed, couldn't find it.

It seems to me that since the CB is now online shouldn't it be able to be updated faster? I mean, they have all this data available to them, how hard would it be to throw it in right away? I know it would be a huge plus for me and might off set some of the problems the new CB has currently.

Hey Cervante. Allow me to send you to a very informative thread

community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/758...

There's a gold mine in there, straight from the Dev Team's mouth, but to answer your particular question:

10a. Will the web-based tools be updated more often?

Now  that the studio is not split in two anymore - trying to support legacy  and new development - we plan to have an aggressive feature update  schedule. I can't promise that updates will be more frequent than  monthly, but they won't be purely content.

when are they go to update the character build and how often will it be update?
will it include gamma world in to the character build?

1: Your guess is as good as anybody's, there has been virtually no official communication on the issue.  At a guess, they would aim to at least keep the update schedule from before they started hitting delays with the CBC, which would see HotFK added in December.  I can't say I'm really particularly hopeful though.

2: No word.  But I doubt it, given that it's a completely separate game AFAIK.

I would not expect much in the way of content updates for December, just due to the sheer number of issues they have to deal with and all the holiday time off. But, maybe I'll be proven wrong.

Frankly, I'm unimpressed by this promise of faster updates. I mean, that's a great plan and all, but given the amount of fixes needed just to get this builder back to the level the old one was at, I think it will still be months before this builder even begins to live up to its potential.

Slow up there fella... they didn't promise faster updates.

"I can't promise that updates will be more frequent than  monthly, but they won't be purely content."

From this the only thing they suggested is that the updates won't be purely content. We don't want people accusing them of lying or deceiving people.

From this statement.

1) The updates could be more or less frequent than monthly.
2) The updates may or may not contain content.
3) The updates may or may not contain feature updates, or other non-content changes (like bug fixes).

If the update when it comes is purely content.

Then remember they didn't lie or promise anything. They just changed their plans and thought it better to get the content update out now, because the bug fixes and feature updates weren't ready.

Remember they didn't promise anything, and they didn't lie.

Well except about how hard it would be to code Dark Sun content like themes into the Classic Character Builder, they lied about that.

Question - Why was the call made to release this version of the tool when not everything is up and running compared to the currently working character builder? Answer - Good question. Essentials content was a very hard fit into the Character Builder Classic and we really wanted to get it out as soon as we could. With the plan for more frequent feature updates, we felt that we could ship something working well - but lacking a few features - now, as opposed to something working completely later.

They aren't promising more frequent updates, but clearly that is the plan.

Plans change. I think we have been taught that lesson very well in the past few months.

It would be nice to know what they are doing.

Unfortunately it is currently impossible to tell if they are doing anything (I'm sure they are).

Has the Builder been updated at all, or are they just testing stuff.

I had a load of crashes on the 16th, but I've used it without any crashes since, so was that just load related (for all they claimed it wasn't) or have they actually fixed something?

I keep checking what I imagine are simple fixes, like no Masterwork Chain armours, or the missing magical leather (instead of Leather) armours and they aren't being fixed so what are they doing?

They haven't updated the known issues list so it is hard to tell if it is worth reporting a fault or not. After their brief burst of communication they have gone quiet again.

Exactly. I for one would really like to know what their status is, or at least what their take on the launch is. They've been quiet on this for long enough.

If I could know two things I would be happy:
- Sets, when? (this should be trivial, the stuff is already in the calculated xml file, it's just not in the character sheets!)
- Multiple weapons, when?

Again, please just refer to the link I posted. It answers a lot of questions, these included.

Question:  How will we be notified about updates to the Web-Based tools? Will the  new email system be used, or is there some other process?

Answer: The  web tools will be automatically updated, so there won't be any need for  user initiated actions. Notifications will be handled as usual.

Question - Will access to our characters and the tool online now be  limited when updates actually do occur?  Will that process take hours to  complete still?

Answer - There  won't be an update process anymore. The rules engine will get new  content as soon as we push it and the only time when you'll experience  some delay is when we roll out new features and you have to reload the  Silverlight client (around 13Mb).

No.

They likely will post updates when there are significant changes.

Question. Can we get regular updates on progress and problems?

Answer. That's the plan.

As far as bug fix communication goes, they have historically been summarised in the monthly patch notes, but as above, they may be more often.
As far as actual bug fixing goes, you can tell there has been a lot of work in the past week, as the system is by far more stable than on release day, and I've noticed that the version number changed at one stage and then went back- they might've released a set of bug fixes live and then found it didn't fix it, and went back to the older patch.
In any case, they're doing something. Tongue out

Mother Nature has seen fit to weight in on the debate and smack WotC with a snowstorm. Couple that with the holiday this week and I am pretty sure we will get no communication until next week.

Hmm, knowing is half the battle
