| #1Seeker95Jun 02, 2010 9:47:59 | Help! I've tried installing as Admin and Running as Admin. The icon in my taskbar indicates it is running with the title "Dungeons & Dragons Insider: Updater" but I see nothing. I have read the thread started by Salla, but aside from the instruction to install as admin and run as admin, I don't see any confirmation that someone has been able to get it to work. |
| #2sigfileJun 02, 2010 10:10:51 | Confirmed. It's working great on my Windows 7 laptop. The initial update took quite a long time, though. |
| #3Seeker95Jun 02, 2010 10:49:06 | So, did you just let it sit in the background forever? I'll try that today. |
| #4DunariaJun 02, 2010 23:10:48 | I have windows 7 and CB is working. You might be in Guest or Limited access windows session |
| #5sigfileJun 03, 2010 8:01:21 | Yeah, I just let it run until it completed. I'm not sure how long it took -- once I realized it was being pokey, I walked away from the computer. |
| #6_Mithreinmaethor_Jun 03, 2010 18:50:00 | I have 2 laptops with Windows 7 and it installed with no problems and no delays. Took approx 4 or 5 mins on each computer at max. |
| #7Seeker95Jun 04, 2010 7:47:03 | Hmmm... so, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling as administrator. It installs fine, or at least seems to. Then I ran the app as administrator. it flashes the D&D Character Builder logo for a few seconds, then does nothing, although the task pane icon for the updater is there. I let it run for three hours and nothing changed, other than using roughly 40%-50% of my CPU. I checked with Salla, and he also was never able to get the software to load. Here's my specs: Windows 7 Home 64 bit Premium edition on a Dell Inspiron 1440 4 GB RAM Avast! free version virus protection 5.0.545 Help! |
| #8starcloudJun 06, 2010 12:38:59 | I'm having pretty much the same issues. The initial pane is coming up fine, now, but trying to update locks the program, and clicking on "Launch Character Builder" gives me an error message. "The handle is invalid. [Exception from HTRESULT: 0x80070006 (E_HANDLE)]" Followed by an error message that vanishes before I can cut and paste. Trying to send an error report gives me a different error message about "Licence expired". Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, 4 gb RAM, and Avast! Free. The presence or absence of Avast! does not make a difference. |
| #9starcloudJun 06, 2010 13:00:53 | Here's what seems to be working so far. 1. Uninstall the Character Builder. Update: This process definitely worked for me. It seems like the version of .NET that ships with Windows 7 is not quite entirely up to date, which is what causes the "Handling Exception" error. |
