It would foster a community of user -driven content that I believe would create a really great product. I see DnD 4e as a near-perfect evolution of a great game's mechanics. These rules are flexible and great for fun. I also love how wizards has accepted the computer as a necessary component to play DnD. However, dungeons are still difficult to create by DMs. Also, the amount of continuous campaigns and extensive dungeons is lacking - So far, I've seen only 2 continuous campaigns. Wizards should look at the community driven screenplay writer Celtx and create the same option for DnD. It would: 1) Allow for DMs to share and create better dungeons 2) Instantly boost the options for players 3) Increase the game force. How would Wizards make a profit off of this? Many ideas such as advertisements - we're a community that's easy to target for - charging for the subscription, like they're doing now, and using the service to distribute their official dungeons for a cost. Has this been considered? |

I don't know that anything has been said about *module* creation as in - tying together statblocks, maps, plot, and more into a single cohesive "booklet" with software. However, I know that in discussions about The Dungeon Builder one of the devs (I think it was mdonais) replied to someone with a hint/tease that some of this functionality is what they're looking to include. I'm on-board with you, though I don't know Celtx (link?). My dream "Dungeon Builder" would be a tool that can fully replace Dunjinni with 4E tools/utilities/statblocks/etc. ![]() |

Celtx is a great starting place to see how they separated out the individual portions and it's Open Source. I think Wizards is losing lots of money by not taking advantage of the already existing software and modifying that. There was no need for character builder to be written from scratch as it was and there's no need for this or any other tool to be written from scratch. Yes, they must open source the code should they adopt Celtx or something similar, but they would gain so much! I'm a coder. I know lots of DnD players are coders. I bet all coders would be happy to help fix bugs and issues, and if the program is open source we can do just that. Furthermore, Wizards can continue to make a profit by charging for database updates like they do now. Why haven't they done this? |
