Solice was the Community management member that over saw the Magic the Gathering area. She has now inherited the D&D, and D&Di areas and someone else is taking over the Magic the Gathering Area.

The wording is ambiguous. It says he's left WotC to persue other opportunities. Which would indicate that he left of his own volition.
That the wording is short and terse, however, would lead the pessimist in me to read between the lines and think he may have been let go. Typically when someone leaves a company, they get a nice several-paragraph write-up talking about the things they did for the company.

I hope he wasn't yet another person to leave a game company with a bad taste in his mouth. That seems to happen more frequently than should be the case.
I haven't seen Solice around much or maybe I just haven't noticed. If she was interviewing at Gen Con was she the girl that was doing the interviews sort of reading off a list of prepared questions and looking kind of distracted off into the crowd?
Gamer zero was able to engage his interviews with a little more focus. I always felt he cared about what he was discussing and into the interview, as opposed to rattling off a prepared question and sort of spokesmodeling it.

I realized that GZ did a lot for WotC but in the recent months he really dropped the ball on communicating with us. I wish him luck, but I feel bad for the person coming in cleaning up what mess he didn't clean up. Which he did try to fix up before he left it seems.

I'm inclined more to think he was probably butting heads with people at WotC over what communication was being presented. I don't think the lack of communication was his ball to drop, so to speak. Either way, I really hope he didn't get fired because of complaining here on the forums :/
I doubt it though (more likely he was ruffling feathers about the lack of information). If that's the case (feather ruffling) we'll likely have *less* information, since he'd have been replaced by a yes-man (or yes-person).
I have sent a PM to Solice to find out what is going on with the excellent communication lines that have been opened up over the last month or so.

Aside from the reorganization of the forums (GZ we hates for ever), why didn't people like him?
I would say hate is a strong word. Quite a few people lost all faith in him as it was beginning to seem that he was more of a diversion creator than someone actually seeking to communicate with us. But even with those that believed such I doubt there was any real ill will towards mike at the end of the day mike lost confidence from the community because he is paid by WoTC he made some questionable thread locks and re routing and he just didn't seem to get the job done as far ass communications is concerned. The only person I'd personally say has consistently done a good job on that front though is WoTCDM.

At times the contact when hired has a gag order in it. Mike clearly knew some things in advance of when he could tell the community. The fact that there is a terse announcement by the company leads to to suspect a gag order is in place. I could be wrong about this, but as days go by and we hear nothing from Mike it becomes more likely that some kind of gag is in place.
I will be doing a lot of reading over the next few days to try and catch up!
Communication is key as a community manager, with that said there will be times that I can not give people the information they want to hear. When I can not answer questions directly, I will say as much however.
Otherwise I will provide as many answers as I can, or find someone who can!
Please never hesitate to let me know if you see questions without answers or concerns that are not being addressed. I can not solve everything but I can do my darndest to communicate the sollutions we do have!

Thank you Solice I hope things go well and hope you are capable of rebuilding the bridges around here. That said you will find me unpleasant at times I have no problems voicing my opinions or interpretations of actions. I do try to remain civil but I have lost most of my faith in, and patience with WoTC in general. Which unfortunately means you have an uphill battle ahead of you. As I said before WoTC_DM has done a great job in communicating to us and even if I don't like everything he tells us at least he answers the questions. I still have hope that WoTC will shape up and turn this around and that is the reason I keep posting here. I believe that is why you see so many of the negative posters sticking in here because they still have a little hope left.

I appreciate the praise but I want make sure it is duly shared with the community managers, both past (Gz) and present (Solice). Answering questions I can answer is certainly made easier by my role on the client applications and being directly connected to their status. I have jumped on these forums to answer questions related to this specific subject at the demand of the community manager, and in that respect both should be credited for these answers too.
