i have some questions about the new character builder.

i just got the new online character builder. i can't houserule any character to try some builds. it's impossible to create some houseruled characters like the characters i have with the old one (i m a good MD who give to all his players 18 CONS... it's bad, i know...)

what's the **** is those at will stances ? new charcters cant have a list of power to choice ?

or what's the tricks to have a decent character builder, who have not 5 seconds freeze when i clik an option or add an ability point or skill...

thanks for help, boyz !

The online builder is currently only able to houserule one thing, and it happens to be the thing you need, ability scores. You can manually set the ability scores. If the scores are set outside the 22 point buy range, it will tell you that you are houseruling, but it will let you continue.

(And they really don't need that Con to be 18. In fact, all it really does is make your job harder, as everyone but Vampires wind up with more Healing Surges than they should have, almost their full HP total worth. This means that you need to adjust the encounters so that they drain more resources and include more encounters in each adventuring day. It also encourages them to play somewhat recklessly, where if they preceived their characters as being more fragile, they might strain a little harder to employ good tactics.)

Never, EVER, create a character using the NEW button. If you read the text next to it, it clearly states that you will be making a "Quick Essentials character." This means the character will be limited to the options found in Heroes of the Fallen Lands and Heroes of the Forgotten Kingdoms, with no way to access any other material. It is an idiotic thing that Wizards did setting up the front page the way they did. The "New" button needs to go away, the "Custom" button needs to become "Create." and "Quick Essentials" should be the top campaign option.

It's a limitation of being an online application. The offline builder does not have a measurable input delay because your computer is only communicating with itself. There is at least one more computer, probably several, in between your keystroke or mouseclick and when you see it appear on your screen. If it is any consolation, it is faster than it used to be, so at least some of the issue was on Wizards end, and they have been doing what they can to resolve the issue.

thanks for help, boyz !

Define 'any'.  The Old CB wasn't much more houserule friendly than the New CB.

I'm with Salla, you are going to need to expand on this a bit if we are going to give you a correct answer.

Any character you could create without adding houseruled elements in the offline builder can be created in the on-line builder (with the possible exception of Feats. I seem to recall that the old builder would let you select feats for which you do not qualify, I do not believe the on-line builder allows this).

You can create a Kobold Whirling Barbarian in the online builder, just as you could in the offline one. Neither Kobold nor Barbarian are an "Essentials option," but virtually every old option is still an option, provided you create the character using the "Custom" button, and pick a campaign other than "Dark Legacy of Evard."

by houseruled, i m looking to adds skills, feats, powers, rituals, etc.

but it's seems not possible. (i have a MD on a party where i play a huge houserules blade master ranger, with many and many houseruled options. not easy to play, but fun, on a pretty non serious campagn)

but i can understand the point of view of metagamers, who like rules for the rules and never houserule anything. just fun. i got 2 brothers who are metagamers, they disgusting me of DD4 some weeks...

Yes, if you want to houserule things, you'll need to use a regular old pencil.

The inability of the CB to houserule has exactly nothing to do with 'metagaming'.  Metagaming is the use of out of game knowledge to affect in game behavior; it has nothing to do with what is or isn't programmed into the Character Builder, nor choosing to follow the rules, nor does it have anything to do with what edition, or game system, you're playing.

The old character builder really was not all that good when dealing with houseruled elements. Sure, you could write it all up so that it appeared on your character sheet, but it would never apply to any of the math. You would still need to change the values by hand (or remember to remember that they were different than what the builder put on the character sheet). If your homebrewed race had a bonus to Nature and Streetwise, there was no way to get the old builder to add those values in for you, you had to write them in yourself.

They have stated that they want to get more houserule functionality into the online character builder, and that they expect to have at least some housrule capability "sometime this fall."

sure, i know metagamer will never use houserules characters. just i got those 2 experiences in game.
i prefer franckly houserulers as metagamers. the brothers i got in game was terrific at point they contested every DM's rolls... you can't imagine the headach when you masterise 8 hours a game with 2 players who created the whole table and know better than others how play 5 characters...

on houserules table where i m just player, the DM know where we cheated the characters, augment the game in consequence and we have fun. and have fun in DD4 is the only thing important non ? by metagame or cheat, why playing if we have not the fun ???

i have a campaign where i am DM, with legal characters, we are following the DD4 official campaign and my players are really happy and enjoy it. then, i like play this way too.

just waiting a "new" char builder houserulable now (soon ?)
/cheers !
