Can you edit your Character Background?

No, you can use the journal entries to write your own background though.
Just create a journal entry named background.

You can print journal entries as an option on the character sheet.

Thanks! I can live with the workaround (or just creating it with a Texteditor), but I do have to admit that I don't understand why the background section doesn't simply work like the Campaign Notes/Personality/etc.

Because you can choose your background in the character builder, it is one of the tabs and it has a game effect.

LOL, I completely forgot about the new Backgrounds ... that makes sense. Thanks for the quick answers!

Yeah about that... I don't suppose you guys could make it so only the pertinent information gets added to the character sheet, e.g. "Born on Another Plane: +2 to Arcana", and leave the rest of the space empty so we can write the rest in ourselves? What good does the very vague generic description do us?

I would whole-heartedly agree with this.

If the backgrounds page had everything it does now, but add two things - a text box for adding a Background History, and a checkbox that's "show background's full text" for people who want all the information from the book on "Born on Another Plane" (for example)

Luckily, I still have some characters from the builder I am using from before the current implementation of Backgrounds was used - so it has their full typed up background printed in that box still.

I recommend adding a journal entry with your character's background if you want to write something yourself.

If you convert to the newest version it will convert your background into a journal entry automagically.
