Character Builder and Auto Folders

One problem that's been bugging me since the Character builder first started was that at every update, all the options seemed to reset to the default.  The most noticeable one was that it forgot where your standard save folder was.

However, with the latest update, not only did it forget where my standard folder was, but it imported about a thousand extra folders from my "my documents" folder, none of which had anything to do with the character builder!

Now, I have a ridiculous number of folders, and no real way of deleting them all...any help?

Aside from deleting them from its index, not really.

I haven't had any problems like this at all, so I don't necessarily think it's something wrong with the character builder. Unless you're reinstalling it from scratch each month, there shouldn't really be a problem. It could be something with your settings, or your file tables or even your OS- I don't really know what would make it add 'a thousand folders' unless you told it to add your entire my documents directory or something.

I'm jut using XP, nothing fancy.  And, this month is the first time its added a thousand folders, the other months, it just refused to remember my default directory from update to update.

I haven't had a problem with it adding the entire My Documents tree to the folder list, but yes, the CB definitely does forget the default save directory after every update.  It also forgets the skip title screen option.  I assume it just sets everything back to default.

well, at least part of the problem isn't unique!

I guess its a full reinstall for me, then!

Hey Hvg,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.  I'll forward this to our team and see if we can figure out what happened.  I'll also forward along your suggestion for keeping the save settings from patch to patch.  Sorry about the inconvenience. =/

Thanks

A heads up on what I did:

total re-install, but it still tried to read every folder within "my documents" (which still added ~5 minutes to the load up time).

in the end, I closed it down, renamed my "My Documents" folder, and booted it back up - and it could not find the folders.  Of course, that meant a lot of other links are now broken, which I am working through to fix.
