A little question on the Character Builder and running it on my home server. I have managed to get it to install and run on my server with little to no problems...however, when I try to run it from the other couple machines in the house, it only comes up with the trial edition stuff. I assume there is the patch files that it's looking for on the client machine that it's not pulling from the server.

It's not a huge deal, I was just wanting to have all my characters in one place..depending on where I happen to be working on them, without needing to install and maintain it on each machine.

Is there a way to get it to just work, or do I have to bite the bullet and just work with them individually?

you currently have 5 updates to the builder each month, and that's that. if you want to install it on multiple PCs, you'll have to update each.
-- as i don't have a lot of insight on internal workings of the CB, i guess you'll have to stay with working on different copies. however, you could setup your home network so you at least store the character files on a remote directory available to all your computers.

so what would happen if you used an updated save file on a non updated CB?

so what would happen if you used an updated save file on a non updated CB?

If you use elements from older updates, nothing.

If you use elements from a newer update in an older updated CB then it tells you the new elements are houseruled elements (in my case feats) and they will not be represented correctly on the character sheet. But they do show up as feat choices for the levels that I chose them.

So if you send someone a character then they will be able to see your choices but the sheet won't have the correct numbers.
