| #1kalfalnalJan 17, 2011 14:55:03 | Characters imported from the old character builder will load...once. Then the CB will just stop responding any time I attempt to load them again.
Names of characters created in either CB frequently disappear from the name field and refuse to save.
Equipment can apparently not be deleted. There's no option that I can find.
After clearing ALL of the characters I'd created and/or imported I tried making my Dragonborn Cleric from scratch. Could not select Diplomacy as a trained skill even though it is a Cleric class skill. In the Feats section it wished me to choose a feat for Ritual Caster. The only option was Alchemist. Gave up and went back to old character builder for this one.
Printing to a network printer is unreliable. Only prints a page or two at a time. I suspect this has something to do with Silverlight only printing to BMP file and the huge spool files that result. Using CutePDF and printing from the resulting pdf file is working much better.
Anytime I've come back to the CB and its asked me to recover a character I end up having elements of the character show up in any other one I load. Frustration ensues as more issues crop up, apparently as a result. Couldn't train any skills on one character, abilities not calculating at all when doing a point buy, etc.
Non-bug complaints:
No Dark Sun inherent bonuses. Which is a shame because the CB actually works with my dark sun characters...for the most part.
The interface is slow. The delay everytime I add a point during point buy, switching sections, scrolling portraits, etc.
Can't have custom portraits.
No way to order the power cards on character sheets into an useful order.
Adding and searching equipment is frustratingly unintuitive.
Browsing through the large lists of powers and feats is very time consuming, especially when going back to check a previous item for comparison. Perhaps a 'holding pen' style window where you can drag and drop interesting options.
I could deal with the painful interface if I could actually create and update characters successfully. At the very least could we please get regular information about bug fixes and updates? I waited weeks to really put the CB through its paces hoping that it'd be mostly functional by the time I needed it. Sadly that was clearly not the case.

The option is there it's just hidden. Go to the shop and select the bottom option on the left (it might be called "Sell" though I can't remember). The option to remove equipment without selling it is there. |
| #3kalfalnalJan 18, 2011 15:23:27 | Ah, yes, thank you!
What a crafty place for it to hide. Convenient too! |
| #4drnickJan 19, 2011 12:49:09 | Indeed. |
| #5kalfalnalJan 19, 2011 15:09:42 | Just built my cleric with no problems so far. So, tentative hooray! |

Character Builder Bug: Essential Thief does not correctly update powers when moving from level 2 to level 3. Improved Backstab is not displayed.
Character Builder Bug: Weapon Finesse Feat is not correctly applied with regard to damage bonus. |

Improved Backstab is displayed. Look at the bottom of the Backstab card you now have 2 boxes instead of one.
And my Thief has his damage figured correctly. What are you noticing not being added correctly?

Ah, I totally missed that. I would think it would have renamed the power to Improved Backstab, or at least indicated it in the Class/Other Features Breakdown.
As for the Incorrect Math, the text for Weapon Finesse on the page says "Use Dex (Not Str) for melee basic attacks, damage. +2 damage with light blades, hand crossbows, shortbows, slings.". But it appears that the bonus are not being applied.
However, as with the first point, I have demonstrated that I am completely blind so I could have screwed this up as well.
Quick Summary of my Math:
Class: Thief Character Level: 3 Dex Score: 18 (+4) Weapon: Dagger +1 (Prof. Bonus +3) Feat: Light Blade Expertise
If I have done this in my head correctly, then Melee Basic should look the same as Ranged Basic for a thief with Weapon Finesse.
Melee Basic Attack (Dagger +1) Dex vs. AC, 1[W]+Dex Mod(+4) (from the weapon finesse feature)
which is ->
Attack = [Dex Mod: +4] + [1/2 Level: +1] + [Dagger Bonus: +1] + [Proficency: +3] + [Thief Weapon Talent: +1] + [Light Blade Expertise: +1] and Damage = [Dex Mod: +4] + [Dagger Bonus: +1] + [Weapon Finesse: +2]
which is ->
+11 vs. AC, 1d4+ 7
Yet, instead it simply lists Melee Basic attack as +11 vs. AC, 1d4 +5 and still shows Str vs. AC in the power card.
Again, I freely admit that I am likely to be completely wrong, but thats what it looks like right now. Have I screwed up somewhere? |

| #10clambachJan 28, 2011 19:27:46 | I had a Gnome Bard in my party who built this character and showed me that when he chose a language, the character builder said "Learn All" and "Learn Common".

Also if the original 4e character sheet could be an option instead of the two essentials sheets? and maybe a blank sheet print out for those of us who like to handwrite characters? |

Why dont you just go and download the character sheet and print it whenever you need it????? |
| #12peekydeekyFeb 05, 2011 15:29:18 | I'm frustrated by the marketplace design. I enjoyed being able to go to weapons and simply scroll down all the weapons types with the weapons I could use highlighted. I rarely go in to character creation thinking "I definitely want a military melee one-handed weapon" rather than "let's see what I can use," so this new system is both difficult to navigate and highly frustrating for me.
Also, the time it take to print a damn character sheet makes me want to punch babies. The first time I used the online creator, I was very excited... until it took 10 minutes for everything to load and a good half hour for my sheet to just print. It took me an hour and a half just to make a character, which I could have done it by hand with a dozen books strewn around me in a third of that time. I even tried using a couple different computers, and it took just as long to create a character and print. The whole program in nose-bleedingly slow.
Oh, and why did Wizards murder the character sheets?! I'd like to see where my bonuses come from, thank you, especially since this new system seems to enjoy stealing bonuses away in the night. Now they offer two character sheets: essentials "lite" (called just "essentials") and essentials "slightly less lite" (called "character builder"). Honestly, if Wizards is still selling normal character sheets (which they are) why the deuce would they not let you print that same character sheet style from the character builder which I (unfortunately) paid for?
Honestly, I'm considering canceling my Insider subscription because of how unpleasant this new character creator is. I'd rather lay all the books out in front of me and make my character the old-fashioned way rather than spend an hour just making a character online (because of the lag I experience on every computer I use) and then another half hour waiting for it to print (because the file size for the character sheet is ridiculously enormous). |
| #13cutenspookyFeb 06, 2011 15:06:42 | Please allow for different print layouts. The new layouts are a pain to search for information when you have been filling out your own for a while. Keep the other layouts, but allow seasoned players to choose the old common character sheets. This is the reason I don't use the tool. |
| #14revampFeb 07, 2011 22:37:54 | Just noting that there seems to be some issues with the replacement fields for novice and expert lvl multiclassing feat powers. It will pull the list up, but when you select them nothing changes and it doesn't recognize the difference. Its fine for me, since i can copy the new power on my sheet, but it's probably annoying the hell out of people that do everything entirely from their laptops. |

| #16crimson_vamprFeb 08, 2011 22:16:26 | Just encountered an issue with one of my characters. I have a level 8 Goliath Warden that won't pull up the character sheet. I can get into the character fine and choose powers, level him up, feats, equipment, and whatnot. But, as soon as I try and check his character sheet, the page goes blank and does nothing until I reload it from the view menu and then it reloads the entire character builder. It has only affected the one character, I checked several of the others and they all seem to be fine. I have tried deleting him and re-importing him, but that didn't help any. I will probably try to delete him and re-build him from scratch, but I will save that for later, when I have a bit more time on my hands... |

Deleting and rebuilding from scratch is your best bet.

| #18RedSiegfriedFeb 09, 2011 3:21:56 | Good job on the latest update to CB, WoTC! Lots of stuff fixed, I'm impressed. Keep it up and we'll have a great tool soon.
However, I'm sad to report I'm still having problems with multiclass power swaps. My 11th level Paladin/Initiate of the Faith took the Adept Power multiclass power swap feat at 10th level. He traded out the Paladin 9th level Final Rebuke for the Cleric 9th level Divine Power. CB still shows that he has Final Rebuke in the powers section (as well as Divine Power) but only Final Rebuke shows on the character sheet, Divine Power does not.
If I remove the feat and the powers and pick them all over again in some circumstances it displays correctly in both the powers section and the character sheet, but only temporarily. When I reload the character it tends to go right back to where it was, incorrect. Also, sometimes fudging around with my retraining slots it will work for a bit, but only until I reload the character again.
One more thing. Previous to this update CB seemed to remember my preference for the standard character sheet instead of the Essentials sheet. Now it seems to default back to Essentials again, but not every time I load the character, only sometimes.
I'm going to try again to rebuild the character from scratch instead of importing from the old CB, but that didn't seem to help before this last update.
Once again, thanks for the hard work. Keep it up - we have a way to go yet but we're getting there! |

The rules do, but they were never added to the CB or Compendium. You'll have to look them up in the original publication.

I had the same problem with one of my characters. After some trial and error, I narrowed it down to his having an Erdlu mount in his equipment. When I deleted the mount, the character sheet came up normally; adding the Erdlu back in broke it again. Duplicated that behavior on another character as well. The other Dark Sun mounts didn't cause the same problem, just the Erdlu. |
