Character Builder Crashes when picking Paragon Path

Jun 04, 2009 2:34:17 I'm trying to make a Swordmage|Warlock Hybrid. Everytime I take Arcane Initiate at level 8 and Bloodmage at level 11 it crashes immediately. What's worse is it corrupts the character file.

Its very frustrating.

Jun 04, 2009 14:19:21 It doesn't matter what Paragon Path I pick. It just crashes. Thankfully, my character is only level 7 but if they don't fix this before my character gets to 11, I'm boned.

Jun 04, 2009 15:01:30 Ive tried all lvls of hybrid warlocks but the character builder dosent like the hyrid warlock, i did a paladin/cleric and it didnt crashed.

Jun 05, 2009 18:50:15 it is just paragon paths. i checked the other day. paragon paths with a hybrid cause an EOF error when saving. it will cause the same error when attempting to view the character sheet once a paragon path is added, but it does not actually save the file and therefore not corrupting it. someone should check the monk as well since it was recently also.

Jun 12, 2009 15:02:11 I'm experiencing this same error with a hybrid ranger/cleric when I try to choose the Battlefield Archer paragon path. CB crashes as the program builds the XML file (your character file). My guess is that there's a dependency (such as a class feature that increases in effectivess after 11th level) that isn't present during the compilation and output of the character file due to the hybrid character build. The program crashes in the same place every time - when outputting the XML structure for Combined Fire. Since combined Fire is a power unique to the Paragon Path, perhaps CB's rules regarding Paragon Paths do not understand that hybrid classes will not have all the class features, or that the hybrid character presents as a "hybrid" rather than "ranger" for purposes of determining eligibility to a Paragon Path. I can save a lvl 30 version of the character as long as I don't select a PP.

I can build an identical ranger (same powers and feats, ability scores, etc.) as long as I'm a single class.

To try and fool CB, I took the XML from the straight ranger Battlefield Archer ranger-only build and pasted that into the saved file. I tried to then display the Character Sheet and CB crashed again.

Does anyone know if this is an official bug report yet?

Jun 14, 2009 22:52:02 Definitely something to do with the Powers, althought this could still be something related to class features per my earlier post. I can fool CB into thinking I'm a Battlefield Archer and even a Punisher of the Gods by pasting the appropriate RulesElement XML tags into the character file and then opening CB and looking at the character summary. The character summary shows I have both the paragon and epic paths selected. When I click on the Character Sheet button, however, CB crashes; and every time - the error is 100 percent reproduceable on my box.

Or at least it does when I try.

Hopefully there will be a patch or hot fix of some type soon. It would be unfortunate to have these issues stay as they are for until the next update.
