| #1mdonaisFeb 24, 2009 14:22:05 | If you have some comments or suggestions please discuss them here. If you have a bug please report it using the link on the title screen of the character builder. Thanks a lot. |
| #2ganadaiFeb 24, 2009 14:51:40 | The update was successful, but... 1) I had to delete all the pre-gen characters again. This will get annoying if I have to delete them after each update every month. 2) My custom 'Campaign Setting' files were deleted. This will also get annoying if I have to make new ones every month. 3) PLEASE add an option to display a condensed journal page that displays the information in a spread sheet format (rows and columns). I don't want to have to print 20+ pages of journal entries at level 30 for a dozen different characters. 4) PLEASE add an option to display a condensed powers page that displays the information in a spread sheet format (rows and columns). I don't want to have to print 20+ pages of power cards at level 30 for a dozen different characters. |
| #3tarril_wolfeyeFeb 24, 2009 14:53:12 | Bug Report on title screen doesn't work for me. The Bug with giant font size on power cards still exists. It seems only to affect users with non-english Windows, is this true? Suggestion: There should be a way to close the Character Builder in Fullscreen Mode. |
| #4wotc_dmFeb 24, 2009 14:57:44 | The update was successful, but... 1/ this is a known issue we found out too late to update for this month (check known issues here) 2/ The custom campaign settings you have created should not be deleted, but should be in your My Documents/DDI folder. We have pointed the Load Campaign settings to the application folder, because this is where the campaign files get updated. |
| #5tarril_wolfeyeFeb 24, 2009 15:09:55 | (check known issues here) Okay, as you wish: Power card font error - my current OS and version: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Sevice Pack 3 Language: German |
| #6ganadaiFeb 24, 2009 15:15:52 | 1/ this is a known issue we found out too late to update for this month (check known issues here) Nice. Thanks. |
| #7aidan_blackthornFeb 24, 2009 15:21:33 | Looking good so far. I like the fact that the Forgotten Realms deities are now separated from the core setting ones. I second the annoyance at having the pregen sample characters back, since I have to run the program in admin mode to get rid of the. Also, I believe the Invoker should start with a ritual book as the Wizard and Cleric do, but there isn't one there. |
| #8doomwhFeb 24, 2009 15:30:23 | looks good but I'm not sure where I customize equipment. Do I do I double click on the item on the list or do I do after giving it to the character? |
| #9mdonaisFeb 24, 2009 15:38:25 | After you buy an item you can right click on it and choose customize from the menu that pops up. |
| #10enigmashockFeb 24, 2009 16:03:58 | None of the Warden Daily (level 1) powers have an "attack" line (i.e. Str vs Ref, etc) in the description, but they do seem to appear on the character sheet |
| #11MockFeb 24, 2009 16:16:37 | Landscape printing is...weird. I haven't tried it using my actual printer, but I have printed to a PDF printer. It's no longer compressing the pages, but it first flips the character sheet around in the viewer all crazy, and then prints it in portrait, but with everything rotated. That's not a good explanation. Lemme do it step by step: 1. Set the viewer to "Default Landscape Layout" - you get the landscape view, as expected. 2. Print to doPDF. The character sheet in the CB Viewer rotate 90 degrees (so basically, the landscape sheet turns sideways) 3. The PDF comes up in portrait orientation (you have to rotate the document view to get it to landscape on-screen). This is a minor problem, since you do, fortunately, get a non-distorted landscape printout. But it was somewhat alarming to watch. When I use PDF Creator, the CB Viewer doesn't flip stuff around, but you still get the landscape PDF coming out in portrait orientation, like so: http://www.houseofgenius.com/images/landscape-pdf.jpg Next on the list: fix the margin problems. Printing to PDF at best leaves zero margin, and occasionally clips off about 5 letters, like so: http://www.houseofgenius.com/images/clipped.jpg |
| #12enigmashockFeb 24, 2009 16:16:45 | Also, the warden character sheet has no descriptions for Font of Life, Wildblood, Earthstrength, or Nature's Wrath For the sorcerer, there is no description on the character sheet for Wild Magic or Dragon Magic. I think it is very important to have the 1d10 elemental resist table on the character sheet, but that's just me. |
| #13Kurama_YoukoFeb 24, 2009 16:42:26 | Are you guys doing patches in small well patches? Because I know for a fact the number of people submitting problems with the Spellscarred feature (both power selection and hit/damage calculations, use or weapons or implements and how its Paragon Path Class) were submitted by various people yet it didn't make the Febuary update from the looks of the update list? |
| #14raevynnFeb 24, 2009 16:44:13 | +2 wand of ethereal step is still missing. |
| #15lancemoodyFeb 24, 2009 16:50:29 | The Character Builder is magnificent. Thanks Wizards. I have been a harsh critic of the process of getting the CB to users and doubtful about how good the final product would be. I was wrong. There are still minor issues but this is REALLY REALLY good and REALLY REALLY useful. Many thanks, Lance |
| #16alennoxFeb 24, 2009 17:02:10 | When I attempt to view a character sheet for my custom character, I get the following error report: Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection. Parameter name: Index Followed by the whole program shutting down. Viewing character sheets for the sample characters seems to work fine. |
| #17wotc_dmFeb 24, 2009 17:12:06 | Thanks for your feedback. I can't stress enough the importance of reporting bugs here. Information reported only on the forums can not be acted upon. They are valuable to share information for the community and get feedback from others, but will not necessarily expose the issue to our Development team. |
| #18Silver_BlazeFeb 24, 2009 17:17:26 | It does not look like this was listed in the patch notes, but it appears that the Staff Fighting feat is functioning properly. My character now has the +1 to armor class from the defensive property added in. |
| #19raevynnFeb 24, 2009 17:25:28 | the "+2 wand of ethereal step" missing was reported in beta, after the first patch and again just now using the method described (report:’090224-000341’) |
| #20lakaiFeb 24, 2009 18:19:39 | Had a question re; the printable journals. Is there a way to make them scale to the size of the journal? I have a few that seem to be to long to be shown. The ends of the long ones get cut off. Hopefully I am just missing something. Thanks in advance, |
| #21sabrecatFeb 24, 2009 18:49:17 | I can't stress enough the importance of reporting bugs here. And the users can't stress enough that this process takes us to Account Information and/or "A technical error has occurred. Please close your browser and try again," not a bug report form. ![]() |
| #22Drax_HoakFeb 24, 2009 19:32:09 | I've noticed Predator Druids now get their Speed bonus, Staff Fighting now works properly, and characters with the Eternal Defender Epic Destiny can now proficiently equip Large-sized weapons. However, the Pit Fighter's Dirty Fighting ability still always comes up as the minimum +1, rather than the actual Wisdom modifier, in the damage breakdowns for powers. Disappointing, I was hoping this one would be fixed. |
| #23celticmuttFeb 24, 2009 20:02:51 | I don't know if it's a bug or not, but the Vampire Heritage feat doesn't allow for choosing which ability score to use for Blood Drain. |
| #24akumadaimyoFeb 24, 2009 20:20:20 | I don't know if it's a bug or not or if it's already been adressed but when you first make a character your supposed to get your lvl 1 feat and your class build feat. So if I make a Rogue I'm supposed to be able to get to choose between Backstabber, Artfull Dodger, Cuthroat Rogue or Ruffian Rogue and then get my 1st level feat. Instead, the builder is having my class feat count as my 1st level feat. |
| #25Drax_HoakFeb 24, 2009 20:22:33 | I don't know if it's a bug or not or if it's already been adressed but when you first make a character your supposed to get your lvl 1 feat and your class build feat. So if I make a Rogue I'm supposed to be able to get to choose between Backstabber, Artfull Dodger, Cuthroat Rogue or Ruffian Rogue and then get my 1st level feat. Instead, the builder is having my class feat count as my 1st level feat. Backstabber is a feat; Artful Dodger, Cutthroat Rogue and Ruthless Ruffian are class features. |
| #26akumadaimyoFeb 24, 2009 20:25:19 | I know that now. :-p I should have noticed that then. Kept thinking Backstabber was a class feature. |
| #27Herid_FelFeb 24, 2009 21:56:26 | Still can't report bugs using the link. Sextant of the Planes is still listed as a weapon quality, not a wondrous item. Using Auto Add seems to have messed up my character's encumberance. I now have an extra 4500 lbs. of encumberance that remains even after I remove all items. It also gives my epic-level character a mundane leather armor and longsword in addition to the magical versions, which doesn't seem right. I am unable to delete the custom item that I made to fill in for Sextant of the Planes, using Delete, Sell 20%, Sell 100%, or by right-clicking and trying to remove one or all of the item. The interface on the equipment screen works better, but there's still no easy way to sell off multiple items. As far as I can see, I can either sell items one at a time, or right-click and choose to delete all the items and then manually add the gold back. This is inconvenient for things like residuum which get spent like gold. |
| #28MockFeb 24, 2009 22:05:40 | Thanks for your feedback. So...what kind of feedback do you want here? "It's great?" Only thing I'm gonna talk about is what doesn't work. If problems here aren't making it to the Dev Team, it seems sorta like a waste of time to put up a feedback thread and say "tell us your problems somewhere else" (especially when bug reporting doesn't work right all the time). Also, holy crap that's a long URL. |
| #29MockFeb 24, 2009 22:22:48 | Here's a suggestion - please make the bug tracker info available (read only is fine, of course) to users. That way we can check to see if a bug has already been reported, or if we need to file a report. Probably shouldn't show us the priority you assign it, though, lest we fly into a nerdrage, pull down our pants, and jump out a window. |
| #30akumadaimyoFeb 24, 2009 23:04:27 | When will more races and info be added to them? Such as the Shadar-Kai? I notice Dhampir have not been added yet either. Will there be a builder like this for NPC types or making your own monsters/badguys? I think that would be very helpful. I love the Character Builder so far. It's sort of hard to not keep on making PCs. I would ask for a custom point build option, for more or less than 22 points. |
| #31MockFeb 24, 2009 23:18:16 | Shadar-kai are in Dragon 372, which wasn't added yet. Dhampyr are not a race, but a bloodline, and the bloodline feat Vampiric Heritage is in there. |
| #32dalzigFeb 24, 2009 23:19:20 | Shadar-Kai will be in the next update. Dhampyr were added in this update (see the feat Vampiric Heritage). |
| #33Emptyglass77Feb 25, 2009 1:35:09 | Dragonborn Fury is STILL(!!!) missing from the dragonborn race description and character sheet! Its been missing since the closed beta! For a moment, I thought maybe they removed that power (like they did with the Veteran's Armor daily) and kept checking the updates, but its still in the Compendium. Why not the Character Builder? Shouldn't the core stuff be somewhat of a priority? |
| #34the_LICHFeb 25, 2009 4:30:38 | Equiping my character with 13 or more wondrous items and then opening the character sheet, crushes the character builder. If I have the character sheet open when I equip the additional, it does not crush. |
| #35zexsudelFeb 25, 2009 5:36:40 | The Wild Magic feature of sorc. should be printed onto a card since it isn't something you can easily memorize. Also the wild magic bonus damage from dex, doesn't seem to be applied on the power cards. |
| #36dokottFeb 25, 2009 11:22:29 | the shop show some error Playing as Halfling and Cleric, the shop has not red-listed the simple 2 hand weapons, and those are 2 big for a Halfling to use, even some of the 1 handed weapon are to big for halfling to use in 1 hand, like the Mace(Versatile). I suggest it will red-list all weapons that isnt't in Race/Class prof. AND Size prof. A Checkbox that "Show possible only" would be nice I would also like to have option where u can either sort or show only weapons with the right Group and Properties example1: Flail and All example2: Axes and High Crit example3: Hammer and Brutal example4: All and Off-hand Thx Dokott |
| #37ah_graht_dupFeb 25, 2009 15:08:56 | My update went off without a hitch. Good job. |
| #38MockFeb 25, 2009 16:44:48 | Here's another suggestion: put the bard at-will War Song Strike back in. This update stripped it out of the builder and stripped it from the character I'm currently playing. Edit: already addressed by WotC_DM in another thread. It's on the radar for March. |
| #39wotc_dmFeb 25, 2009 20:11:56 | And the users can't stress enough that this process takes us to Account Information and/or "A technical error has occurred. Please close your browser and try again," not a bug report form. We have updated the Report a bug page to highlight that you need to sign in before hitting the report a bug button. Did the issue you mention occurs even after being signed in? |
| #40GlimFolkor1234Feb 25, 2009 22:00:54 | After you buy an item you can right click on it and choose customize from the menu that pops up. Not much customization allowed there. Alternatively, you could put information in the notes section, but that doesn't seem to be carried forward to the weapon card. Is there a way to modify a weapon, and ensure that the information about your weapon is captured on the weapon card? For example, during my last session, my weapon "awakened" and became magic. It's essentially a +1 weapon, but +2 vs goblinoids. How do I capture that in the weapon card? BTW, the link for reporting bugs from the Character Builder didn't work for me either... |
| #41GlimFolkor1234Feb 25, 2009 22:03:06 | We have updated the Report a bug page to highlight that you need to sign in before hitting the report a bug button. Did the issue you mention occurs even after being signed in? I get the exact same error, and have for weeks. It's rather annoying to constantly have to re-sign into DDI. I sign in everytime I go to the website, when I launch Character Builder, when I log into the bug reporting area, etc, etc... This is a very cumbersome process... |
| #42GlimFolkor1234Feb 25, 2009 22:26:19 | I'm either doing something wrong, or I've found a bug: I've added the Vampiric Heritage feat to create a dhampyr character. That worked fine. CB added blood drain as it should, but made no accomodation for selecting which attribute it would use for attacks with the power. Additionally, for my 1st level character, CB added three additional powers when I added the Vampiric Heritage feat. I don't see in the short section on Playing Dhampyr why that would be. |
| #43GlimFolkor1234Feb 25, 2009 22:35:52 |
While there is still stuff to be done in the Character Builder, every update improves things. Well done. |
| #44AlficlesFeb 26, 2009 2:08:22 | Feedback, eh... I would love to use the Char Builder. It looks like it could be an excellent tool. However, I don't have a char I can put in it. My Warlord has too many items. The char sheet crashes. My Ranger is also a pit fighter. Absolutely no damage values are correct. Those are show stoppers. I flat can't use the builder because there is no way around those two problems. On a paper sheet, I can do the math correctly. There are some other serious usability concerns, as well. I have a bloodclaw weapon (you know, the one that doesn't fit any other templates ). I'm pretty much always going to use the bloodclaw property of it. That means I have to add +12 damage to every attack in my head. Instead, I should (at least be able to) have a power card 'Bloodclaw Twin Strike' or a line on the Twin Strike Card 'Bloodclaw Urgosh +4 (w/ power): 1d12+27, 1d8+27, 8 to yourself' as well as the normal w/o power. If you have to, make an activated weapon an extra weapon option when you have a bloodclaw or reckless weapon. For bonus points, remind us of the drawbacks.Let me add a 'misc' damage bonus (or penalty) to stuff. At some point, there will be a bug. I want to be able to work around it. For bonus points let me add bonuses to classes of things: melee attacks, weapon attacks, attacks with my +4 Urgosh. A Character that acquires an artifact is simply hosed. No amount of 'custom item' work will allow him to create an item that he can equip. If it isn't in the database, you can't use it. An ally of mine has an intelligent artifact weapon that isn't representable as anything other than a basic +X weapon. Even if I put stuff in the 'Notes' section, there is no way to get that on power cards or anything. I can't keep my picture with my char. The picture is linked, so sending my char to another computer removes the picture. This makes the picture slot useless. I can't notate on the char sheet. For example, my dwarf has a belt that gives him +Con hp when he spends a healing surge. The least useful place for that is buried under a stack of magic item power cards. The most useful place for that is as a comment in the HP area. Bonus points if the software puts it there to start with, but at least let me add a box there with the text 'Surge +4 while bloodied'. Same under the defenses, '+2 AC if you hit him last turn'. Cause when the DM asks if a 36 hits AC, I'm looking in the defenses box, not scanning all 30 magic items. Let me annotate any box. Bonus points if I can annotate an item and tell it to show the annotation in another box. I can't create a meaningful campaign file for my campaign. The rules for my campaign are: 26 pt-buy, you can use it when Wizards prints it, and select a god from the homebrew pantheon. Also, you can use it if I print it. (More on that later.) I can make a campaign file that restricts their book choices, but nothing else. Deities are nothing more than a name, generally. Let me add to that list in the campaign file. Bonus points if I can create equivalences with existing deities so that Channel Divinity choices pop up without hitting the house rule button. Let me set a 26-pt point buy. Give me a reasonable method of selecting weapons and powers. I'd really like a filter-as-you-type box. I would type into it and weapons/powers/feats/whatever that didn't match would disappear. Sortable column headings would be a nice nod in this direction. My 'equipment box' on the builder shows me 3-5 items at a time. It doesn't scroll down to the last item when a new one is added. That means that as I add items, nothing actually shows me that it really did catch my double-click. If I buy a sword and I'm not wielding a weapon, I should equip the sword. Same with other slots. The second sword I buy shouldn't bump the first one out, but if I'm empty... equip it. And lastly, it would be awesome to be able to create our own powers file that contained classes, races, powers, feats, items or some subset, superset, or combination thereof. Maybe you'd even have to be a programmer or otherwise expert to reasonably put together a 'plugin pack'. That would open up a lot of opportunities for DMs to customize their campaign settings. It would let me 'reskin' the beastmaster hunter into a necromancer that summons things with rather familiar stats that happen to look like zombies. Or to create a magic axe that said +3 Raging Axe (Property: +3 damage while raging.) Or any of a host of things. This last one is a tall order, and probably not even on your radar. Summary I can't really use the builder because it has bugs that make it unusable. When those are fixed, there are some features I'd really like:
|
| #45ebalFeb 26, 2009 8:49:07 | Okay. first of all, I'd like to say this is a fantastic tool. Especially for me, as a new player, it allows me to be sure that I've actually taken care of everything I need to do for character creation. I would like to point out some things worth noting. I don't know which of these have or have not been reported, but they are the things I've seen that need fixing/adding. First of all, I would like to second what other people in this forum have said about the Sorcerer's Magic Source traits. While it is technically, according to the wording in the class description, the only class feature, it encompasses a lot of abilities that are, especially for Wild Magic sorcerers, quite complex and lengthy. These should all be listed on the character sheet like individual class features. I'm sure there are other classes that have this issue, but I've not built characters for those classes. In any case, all instances of a class feature that encompasses multiple properties should have all of those properties listed with it. Second, for Beastmaster Rangers, on the companion card on the character sheet, the special traits of the different companions (such as the wolf's bonus to opportunity attacks) should be listed. Next, although I love that the powers section of the builder breaks down where all your damage comes from, it's lacking in one area that I can see so far. Secondary attacks aren't included. For instance, the Sorcerer's Chaos Bolt power. Now, I'm smart enough to read the power description and know when and how to make my secondary attack(s) with that power and how much damage to do. But why exactly is that attack not broken down like the primary attack? This is also true of the power cards. The secondary attack is described there like it is in the power description, but it isn't included at the bottom of the card like the primary attack is. Why, on the power card for Explosive Pyre, is the 1d6 attack not listed below? Another thing the builder is missing is poisons. Drow in particular are described as using poisons. A PC is certainly capable of obtaining poisons to use themselves. Indeed, the Children of Darkness article in Dragon gives you a list of poisons for you to consider for your Drow PC. And the DMG has a bunch more, not to mention other that might be found in other supplements. So why is there no section in the shop for us to buy or add poisons? And lastly, my biggest issue currently with the character builder: houseruled characters. My sorcerer character I've built for my groups next campaign that will be starting in a few weeks is very houseruled. I approached my DM with a concept for a character who was cursed so that his voice caused pain to those who heard it. What we were able to come up with is that he would allow me to play a modified human character, giving up the additional feat, trained skill, and at-will power in exchange for a racial encounter power, designed based off of dragon's breath and able to be enhanced by the same feats. The issue is that there is no way to tell the character builder that as a result of a house rule, I do not need to choose a feat, at will power, and trained skill. It doesn't prevent me from using the character builder, but it's slightly annoying that every time I load the character, the program tells me that my character is wrong. Also, there's no way to input a custom power. If your character is completely legal, the character builder is a beautiful tool. And it still has it's merits if they aren't legal. But it has no provisions for houseruled characters past different ability scores or picking skills and feats you aren't supposed to. So yeah, I love this thing, and I hope to see it get better. Those are my suggestions. Keep up the good work. On a slightly unrelated note, will the March update be at the end of the month as well, or will it be moved up to get the PHB2 information in there with as little delay as possible following the book's release? |
| #46sabrecatFeb 26, 2009 13:31:47 | We have updated the Report a bug page to highlight that you need to sign in before hitting the report a bug button. Did the issue you mention occurs even after being signed in? Indeed, I wouldn't be able to see Account Information if I weren't. What happens: - I click Report a Bug. - This takes me to my Account Information. - I get a popup that says "A technical error has occurred" etc. I've run into this with both Firefox and IE7. I'll try a few alternate orders of doing things to see if I can work around it... but judging by the other replies on this thread, this is not a rare issue. |
| #47MockFeb 26, 2009 13:52:49 | Indeed, I wouldn't be able to see Account Information if I weren't. Forgive me for the dumb question, but have you gone into the help system from the main "Help" link on the front page, and just drilled down through the "Search by Product" options until you got to the "report a bug" option for the builder? It's taking the long way, but maybe that will circumvent the problem. You'd do Roleplaying Games -> D&D Insider -> Character Builder -> Report a Bug, IIRC. |
| #48roger_bertFeb 26, 2009 18:05:20 | Greetings. The journal update is very nice. However, there should be a way to move journal entries around or to create a new entry inserted in the list of entries. I know that most of the time you will not need to do this but if you are converting from existing paperwork it will help immensely. Adding pictures to the Journal is easy enough but when I print the journal pages the picture entry is not there. Thanks. |
| #49sabrecatFeb 26, 2009 18:52:53 | Forgive me for the dumb question, but have you gone into the help system from the main "Help" link on the front page, and just drilled down Hey, doesn't hurt to try. ...Nope. The search eventually lands me on the same page WotC_DM supplied earlier. I click the Report a Bug link, Account Information loads, then redirects to the "technical error" page. |
| #50MockFeb 26, 2009 18:58:08 | Hey, doesn't hurt to try. Ah well, worth a try. |
| #51skalgrimmFeb 26, 2009 23:56:44 | Hey, doesn't hurt to try. Yup. I'm consistently getting this too, both on Mac OS 10.5, using Safari, and Windows XP, using Firefox. I have never been able to use the Report a Bug feature. Any method of navigating to it fails. |
| #52ganarothles_dupFeb 27, 2009 1:39:59 | Paired Weapons are still not selectable in the shopping menu, except under the "All(reset)" tab, and are therefor not usable. The Archmage "Archspell" level 30 class feature does not allow you to select level 29 dailies as its subject. I want my encounter Legions Hold... ...And I would appreciate the ability to select a Point-Buy amount, even if it is easy enough to derive with the current interface. |
| #53tufratFeb 27, 2009 9:41:30 | Along with a known bug list, how about some sort of (understandably non-committal) future features list (to reduce duplicate suggestions and get people exicted about future updates.) Recommendations: 1) The columns for power index and magic items index have the EXACT same information in italics at the top of the column. Aside from fixing this, I would also like to be able to hide that portion of the block. 2) pop-ups, tool tips and a help file for the layout page. 3) Explicit export to XML, and improve the information exported to allow creation of custom sheets. (which takes some of the customization burden off WoTC without undermining the char builder) 4) Allow incremental changes the number of lines displayed in a panel. (show/hide is great, but not very flexible) For the following panels, it would add flexibility and more options for customization if players could adjust the number of lines displayed to what they needed (preferably with a dial-up/dial down counter): Race Features, Class/Path/Destiny, Feats, Power Index, Magic Item Index, Personality Traits, Mannerisms and Appearance, Character Background, Companions & Allies, Other Equipment , Session & Campaign Notes, Rituals/Alchemy, Languages Known 5) Rituals/Alchemy panel should be two separate panels. 6) Similar to the "Basic Attacks" panel, there should be an "Attacks" Panel of the same format, but which allows players to display any/all of their powers and damage 7) The Basic Attacks panel should include the option to display: Bull Rush, Charge, Opportunity Attack, as there are feats and class features that can influence those attacks 8)Defenses panel: Show/hide each "conditional modifiers" box. (to help save page space for characters that don't need it) 9) Hit Points panel: some char backgrounds grant an extra death saving throw, and this should add a fourth check box 10) Beastmaster's companions: Doesn't show speed for the animal |
| #54blackplaugeFeb 27, 2009 12:21:49 | Feature request: Show/Hide functionality for individual power cards. | #57wotc_dmFeb 27, 2009 15:29:23 | Hey, doesn't hurt to try. We are investigating this issue, but it does not seem that there is a quick fix here. To access the bug reporting page you need to be signed-in, and what seems to be happening is that this signing process fails for you and leads you to the technical error page. I don't have more information about this at that stage, but will update when we have progress to report. |
| #58crimson_lancerFeb 27, 2009 22:33:05 | Some small things: 1) Please don't reload all of the Default Characters whenever the thing is updated. I deleted them to reduce clutter and because I'll never, ever use them. Not only that, deleting those characters has to go through 3 firewalls on Vista, which is also very silly. Deleting characters I build has no warnings attached or anything. :S 2) I'm fairly sure this is a known bug, but equipping any of the Masterwork Armors from AV that give a bonus to certain Defenses doesn't show up on your character sheet at all. It's kind of annoying having to add it in manually and be told it's a houserule. |

| #64mrb783Mar 01, 2009 12:40:23 | For custom feats, it would be nice if they would be saved and allowed to be edited. Point in case: I have a custom feat that I entered in with the full descriptor of the feat. This created an issue on the character sheet viewer (cuts everything off due to the length of the description). I decided to shorten it, but every time I attempt to, it reverts back to the original description. I've restarted the application with the feat disabled on the character I was editing. I've created a new character and added the feat with a totally different description and it reverted to the latest version that I created (not the original). The only way to get it to work that I have seen is to delete the character and start over. All-in-all, it's very frustrating. An improved custom feat/power/etc selection system would be a very valuable thing. The campaign I am running in is heavily custom. |

| #80sticks128Mar 06, 2009 13:24:25 | Well, since the "Report a Bug" link (which can't be stressed enough) still is not working after weeks and weeks , I am just going to recopy the bugs here (copying multiple replies here so it is going to look odd). For my own issue, my Dragonborns Breath Weapon card does not factor in that I chose Poison, that my damage is D10 (thanks to the feat), nor that I am above 11th level when calculating my attack bonus (it is 2 too low). Also, the text on the additional effects line on my powers runs off the page, rather than wrapping to the next line. It also adds my weapons property (bloodthirsty) to powers it shouldn't add to, such as Inspiring Word. Also, on the additional effects line, my Dragonborn racial +1 while bloodied does not show up anywhere. EDIT: Finding even more. On the character sheet, applying a short rest resets your encounter attack powers, however it does not reset your encounter powers on items. Agile Armor does not add to AC, but rather it adds a sentence below which as if it is a conditional modifier. I think it should always add and note below when you don't get it. Also, powers do not account for having the correct Weapon (i.e. if wielding a Heavy Blade adds your Dex to damage, the power card does not auto-calculate that). Not sure if this applies to all masterwork armors, but my masterwork leather armor is not adding anything to my reflex defense. EDIT: Collar of Recovery does not add to my surge value. Also, Ring of the Dragonborn Emporer does not add to my Dragon Breath's damage. 1) Come and Get It - It is calculated wrong. It adds in Iron Armbands and it should not. 2) My Fighter MC into Ranger (Warrior of the Wild). Now on his attack powers, it has Hunters Quarry as an additional effect once per round, when in fact I only get HQ for two rounds a combat, not once per round. 3) Powers which get bonus damage based on a specific weapon - I weild the proper weapon yet its bonus to damage is not calculated into the auto-calculate line right below. 4) Has been fixed. 5) On weapon power cards (and many, many other places), the text runs out of its text box. In this case it is the enchancement box. 6) Has been fixed. 7) The Attack Workspace and Damage Workspace calculate my Javelin attack incorrectly. They give me a misc +1 to attack and +3 to damage. Now I am a Tempest, and this would be correct if the Javelins were off-hand, but they aren't. UPDATE: It is now fixed for Ranged attacks, but not Melee attacks. 8) The Attack Workspace gives me a misc. +4 to damage and a misc. +1 to damage, but I don't have anything which corresponds to these numbers. I do, however, get a misc. +2 (Iron Armbands of Power) and a misc. +3 (Tempest Technique with Agile Tempest). 9) Hunter's Quarry is listed as an At-Will power for me (see: #2). I wish! Inspiring Word's range on the power card does not increase with tier. At 13th level, it still shows up as a burst 5. |
| #81CailteMar 06, 2009 18:55:03 | Sticks have you confirmed all those bugs with the latest update? |
| #82aemiosMar 07, 2009 10:10:28 | I would like to be able to create my own deities and backgrounds for a campaign, not just races or classes or languages and aspects of a character like that. As far as I can tell, you cannot. |
| #83Herid_FelMar 07, 2009 13:41:28 | Worldly Strike and Fey Strider in the Horizon Walker paragon path have the Acid keyword. This should be the Arcane keyword. |
| #84lucasa78Mar 09, 2009 3:51:47 | First, I'd like to say that the character builder is good and wonderful. Hours of fun. Unfortunately those hours of fun are cluttering up the "load character" page. A folder system would be a great addition, allowing the characters be nice and organized. The only thing I can complain about is the lack of usability of the custom rules for making homebrew characters (and all that go into making a homebrew character). To be able to create usable races, at least, would help immensely, as I am working on my own campaign setting. The only bug I have found is that in the retraining for multiclass powers, you can select a power that you have already traded out at a lower level and trade it for another power. Only the newest one appears on the character sheet though... The builder is steadily improving, and I'm sure you guys will have these implemented/fixed in no time at all. Keep up the good work. |
| #85sticks128Mar 10, 2009 3:43:40 | Sticks have you confirmed all those bugs with the latest update? Sadly yes, I deleted the ones they fixed. |
| #86Kurama_YoukoMar 10, 2009 10:14:58 | Sticks, I'd say the one about Hunters Quarry, is a minor if not really unimportant thing. You know as a Multiclassed Ranger, that you only have it for 2 rounds, thats all that necessary, the DM who obviously should know what your playing and what your multiclassed into, should know that you only have it for 2 rounds. It's a small thing, and I doubt its hardly worth the coders time, to make it say "For 2 rounds you have HQ, when you activate it 1 once per encounter." Also "Come and Get It!" is suppose to gain the armbands +2 damage bonus. The Power Deals 1[W] Damage and more importantly you make a close attack against everyone in MELEE range (That is, everyone who was pulled into a square adjacent to you gets hit with a MELEE attack aka Close Attack.) In this the power is not incorrect. However this does bring up the issue of whether or not everyones reported bugs are actually bugs. Hence it would make more sense to me if the Developers reported bugs to the Programmers and had them fixed. |

| #88Kurama_YoukoMar 11, 2009 10:40:38 | let me put it this way, there is nothing in Close Attack that suggest that your NOT Making a melee attack in it. You are still making a Melee Attack roll, and Iron Bands add their damage to melee DAMAGE rolls, there for if you roll dice after hitting somone with a weapon who is in melee combat range, regardless of whether or not the attack power mentions Melee Weapon, you are in fact using a melee weapon and thus any resulting damage will add the iron armbands of power. How about this, I'll e-mail customer service, and thus whatever reply they give. Will be the developement and research intended purpose of the power. If it co-insides with your version, then by all means continue to request its changing, if not then accept it as it is. Before I go on, they don't add to melee attacks, they add to melee damage rolls, which is what this power gives you. |
| #89blackplaugeMar 11, 2009 13:02:01 | Area, Close, Melee, and Ranged are distinct attack types in 4e. Properties which effect one do not effect another, even if circumstances indicate a similarity. However, there is a source of ambiguty here because the term "melee damage rolls" could mean "damage rolls made with a melee weapon" (supporting your interpretation, and the way the builder currently works) or "damage rolls made when making a melee attack" (supporting the counter-argument). Some clarity on which was meant would be nice. |
| #90sticks128Mar 11, 2009 20:45:47 | Area, Close, Melee, and Ranged are distinct attack types in 4e. Properties which effect one do not effect another, even if circumstances indicate a similarity. This. By RAW, Iron Armbands do not add to Close Attacks. The rules are actually pretty clear about this. However, that does not mean it was intentional. WotC clearing up intent would be nice. |
| #91pweentMar 11, 2009 21:46:25 | Armor Specialization (Chainmail) does not appear to be applying its effects. Sample character I built with it and equipped with +3 Braidmail is showing neither the AC bonus nor the skill check penalty reduction. In case it wasn't recognizing Braidmail, I swapped it out for standard Chainmail, but still so now changes when I added and removed the sheet from my character. I swapped it briefly for Armor Spec (Plate) and a suit of plate armor - that feat is working. It seems to be just Chainmail that's affected (though to be fair I haven't tried Hide or Scale.) |
| #92Kurama_YoukoMar 12, 2009 10:15:09 | well, i'll let this one go, as i have now lost all faith in WotC making reliable decisions.Customer, I will point out that the text in Iron Armbands says nothing about melee attacks, as either a benefactor of this item or a requirement. |
| #93sticks128Mar 12, 2009 20:20:19 | well, i'll let this one go, as i have now lost all faith in WotC making reliable decisions. They are following the RAW perfectly. You just seemed to have not known this until now. I don't see anything in CS response which was bad. This was one of the few they got right. I don't particulary like the rule, but RAW is really clear on the subject I will point out that the text in Iron Armbands says nothing about melee attacks, as either a benefactor of this item or a requirement. True, but you only get Melee damage rolls from Melee attacks, which Come And Get It is not. Close =/= Melee. |

| #95quasimotocarMar 13, 2009 14:49:19 | Just started playing with the Character Builder, and of all the DDi tools released so far, the CB is the best. There's obviously been a lot of work put into this one, and despite some of the rules bugs, the quality is good for what is essentially a beta release. I do have some suggestions to improve the current system: 1. I haven't had a 15" monitor for 10 years. I'd like to be able to dynamically resize any of the view-panes relative to one another. For example, I'd like to evenly split the character-builder and rules-reference panes evenly accross my monitor. On a related note, the "Zoom" option in Preferences doesn't increase text size enough to be beneficial for the reading-impaired (existing Accessibility tools in Windows are more appropriate). If it is intended to be a solution for resizing the view-panes, I'd suggest dropping that method and provding a more direct (and common) control point at the view-pane borders. 2. I'd prefer to choose the campaign a character is being made for first, and have all the options during character generation reflect that choice, rather than scrolling through campaign-based options at the time I choose a power or skill or what-have-you. This would also be a convenient way to organize the character list when selecting a character to "Load". 3. I'd like to be able to sort the Skills and Powers by clicking on a column header. 4. I'd like to be able to create Feats and Powers that show up in the Character Build process as options that are grouped by Campaign. Also, customizations should be modelled after the Monster Builder, allowing users to select the properties and effects of feats and powers or fill in values for these parameters directly (in addition to the current "text-block" approach). Which brings me to a more general suggestion that I fully recognize may be too late in the development lifecycle to take action on: It would be really nice if a consistent design was used for these tools - it's unnecsessarily confusing to have one customization method for monsters, and a whole different method for PC's. Log into the website for this tool, but launch a local windows app for that tool. Want to post an update? Login again, with the same creds, but in a new screen/tab. Problem with your account? Login a third time. I think the usability and polish of the product would be greatly improved with a single-login and application architecture. Common interface objects could be reused, and the rules details could be written once for all points of reference, reducing significant development and QA effort. I'd also prefer an "Interface" within DDi that is more akin to the "Interface" I normally have with D&D - that is a game-table (I know, it's coming, and it looks pretty slick), a set of dice, and a character sheet and rule-book as references. In my imaginary perfection, the Character Builder is a Character Sheet on one pane, and a rules-reference that displays pages of the actual rule-book on the other pane. If I click on the Stat-block in the character sheet, the rules-reference turns to the related page in the Players Handbook and provides a list of hyperlinks to related rules from Dungeon, Dragon, or other supplements. Despite all of the above, DDi is impressive, and I'm sure it will get better. Quasimotocar |

| #106lancemoodyApr 21, 2009 19:29:08 | For sure the power cards should be able to have the flavor text. It is unwise that they left them out since I think the flavor text is the kind of thing that can sell the game to newbies (instead of raw numbers). If you don't fix the idiotic multiplying powers bug, there will be hell to pay. You should have fixed it immediately instead of waiting a month. Thanks, Lance |
