I houseruled in a power and the printed power card text is so small as to be unreadable without a magnifying glass (not kidding). I've looked at the campaign file, but see nothing in there to change the font size for the printed power card. Also, is there a particular format that we should be using in the 'Add Houserule' area so that feats and powers appear the same way as the provided feats and powers in their normal tab sections?

Are there any workarounds for this?

I can't get landscape printing to work. I am a Mac user and perhaps just ignorant of how Vista works,

I am choosing the landscape view, which looks good. Then I am choosing landscape mode in the print dialog prefs but no matter what the printed page looks distorted and doesn't cover the page.

Is it me?

Thanks,

Lance

For the record, I get an error message if I try to submit an error through the "Submit a Bug" link. Irony, thy name is Wizards.

The swordmage level 5 daily power "Shielding Fire" is called "Swordmage Shielding Fire".

When you select one of the warlord multiclass feats, you are not allowed to select any of the other ones, even if you meet the prerequisites. I tested it with Student of Battle and Tactical Leader; I suspect it would happen with some of the other alternate martial multiclass feats.

When creating an invoker from the Dalelands, I was offered the Ghost of Eventide as a paragon path selection even though I had taken the Student of the Plague multiclass feat (and all of the power swap feats). Of course, those powers aren't in there, so I can't continue without houseruling.

Bards are not proficient with Hide armor despite being such in Dragon 369.
Veteran's Armor needs to be errata'd.
If you create a high level character, some of the 'additional effects' text can possibly not even show up.

For my first use of the builder, I entered an 11th level rogue from a pen and paper character sheet.

The Bug: THis character has power swap feats, but the builder never gave an opertunit to do the swaps. When I did them manually it said the charcter was house ruled. Those power swap feats should probably allow swapping powers. Maybe I missed something?

The problem: Languages. This would be a house rule thing obviously, but there seems to be no way to have a third language on a human character, not to add a language to any character beyond those given at initial generation.

Otherwise excellent product, does everything else I want it to.

landscape printing doesn't work on my vista machine...at all. here are the various bugs:

1) when you switch to landscape mode in the character sheet viewer, the "other equipment" list isn't populated (no equipment is listed). On further examination this appears to be a sizing issue. once the problem occurs, if you delete the "other equipment" tab and re-add it, you get a message saying it doesn't fit and then the builder creates a third page and puts the other equipment tab there. If you instead delete the equipment block and delete a couple other blocks (like the RP blocks) to make room for the full equipment block, and then re-add the equipment block. Only then will the equipment block show correctly on the landscape page.

2) when you print a landscape layout character sheet, it actually shrinks the x-axis to 8.5" and stretches the y-axis to 11" and prints the "landscape" layout in a portrait sized area

3) you cannot work around problem 2 by forcing the printer settings to landscape mode in the print dialog. if you do that... it does the same compression and stretching described in item 2 and has a huge empty whitespace on the right side of the page and cuts off the bottom of the page.

I mention I am on vista (64-bit) in case this is unique to vista. I have no idea if it is. But in essence, on my machine, landscape mode for printing the character sheet is completely non-functional.

melee basic attacks for a warlock that is wielding a pact blade are not listed correctly in the "basic attacks" block. The "weapon or power" text correctly says melee basic attack, but the "Attack" modifier listed is for eldritch blast. The "defense" listed is reflex (should be AC), and the "damage" section also lists the damage for eldritch blast. melee basic attacks ARE listed correctly in the "attack workspace" and "damage workspace" blocks.

The power Fury of Gibbeth (5th level warlock power from dragon magazine) appears to be entered improperly in the character builder data base.

The text description of the power appears correct, but the power card for that power lists no damage dice.

Even worse, if you are in the character sheet and configure the damage workspace to list the damage dice for the fury of gibbeth power, the builder segfaults.

Sounds like everyone is having a blast. I can't even get to the full version yet.

Yes, I'm a DDI subscriber.

Splash screen looks for the server, says it doesn't exist and dumps me into the demo.

I've reinstalled twice now to verify no problem with the install.

Edit: Appears to have been a problem with my Virus Protection. Incidentally, Defender Pro doesn't give an option for an exception and has to be shut-down to get the update.

Minotaur does not show "Oversized" in racial traits, but Bugbear does

Minotaurs no longer have the Oversized trait.

For my own issue, my Dragonborns Breath Weapon card does not factor in that I chose Poison, that my damage is D10 (thanks to the feat), nor that I am above 11th level when calculating my attack bonus (it is 2 too low).

Also, the text on the additional effects line on my powers runs off the page, rather than wrapping to the next line. It also adds my weapons property (bloodthirsty) to powers it shouldn't add to, such as Inspiring Word. Also, on the additional effects line, my Dragonborn racial +1 while bloodied does not show up anywhere.

EDIT: Finding even more. On the character sheet, applying a short rest resets your encounter attack powers, however it does not reset your encounter powers on items nor utilities.

EDIT 2: Yet More! The +2 bonus from my Warlord is added into iniative, but its increase from Combat Commander is not factored in. Also, the character is considered completely legal when I have a magical shield and magical arm slot on simultaneously, even though the rules force me to use one or the other.

EDIT 3: Am I missing the place to record your material components wealth, or is it not there? Where do I record the amount of Residuum my character has?

Wow, there are a lot of bugs in this...

Agile Armor does not add to AC, but rather it adds a sentence below which as if it is a conditional modifier. I think it should always add and note below when you don't get it. Also, powers do not account for having the correct Weapon (i.e. if wielding a Heavy Blade adds your Dex to damage, the power card does not auto-calculate that).

I've found cases, where if you pick a feat that adds a conditional bonus to damage/attack rolls for powers (in the case I observed it: Against All Odds). And then remove it at a later level (not retrain it but double click it in the Feat tab to undo the selection [i did that accidentally]). Then if you re-enter the same feat for that level. All your powers that are affected by that feat will list the conditional bonus twice in their description.

Jan 27, 2009 5:33:58
One other general comment (not a bug), but the way power swapping feats is implemented for multi-classing is really confusing. It all seems correct, but it takes a lot of effort to figure out what the interface expects you to do.

One particularly frustrating point: when you are at the higher levels where you need to unlearn a lower level power to gain the new power for your level, the program doesn't let you unlearn a power that had been previously power swapped with multi-classing. You CAN get it to let you unlearn that power, but to do it, you have to first go over to retraining, change which power you have swapped so that the one you want to unlearn is no longer the one swapped. Very few people are going to figure that out...

Exactly. Those rules in the monster manual are guidelines for the DM. It says right there in that section of the MM that the racial abilities listed there are meant to help the DM create NPCs and that they aren't necessarily well balanced for PC use. So naturally, when they create a version of a particular race that has been specifically balanced for PC use, that is going to obsolete the version in the MM for players.

For this one, you should be able to select Landscape mode in the Character Builder not the print preferences. Selecting in both causes a problem.

My power cards are all screwy. My level 10 warlock has one daily power swap and one custom ability that I've listed as a power. Now my daily power swap shows up as an encounter power and few of my other powers appear on the correct cards.

Clicking a higher level check box automatically selects (or deselects, as appropriate) everything below on the organizational tree. This works great for allowing/diallowing whole books or parts of books. However, the reverse isn't true (which makes allowing/disallowing elements on a case by case basis much harder). If I click to allow (or disallow) just the Gnolls from Dragon 364, neither Race nor Dragon 364 gets its mark changed which means if collapse the tree I can't see that anything from that issue of Dragon has been allowed (or disallowed). As a result, I could manually allow each element of Dragon 364, and yet still show Dragon 364 itself as not allowed (or vis-versa). There needs to be a "partially checked" symbol that indicates when some, but not all elements of a certain resource are being allowed as well as a routine that checks for consistency between the higher level check marks and the lower level ones.

With Dragon and Dungeon, each issue is listed separately as a top level entry. While I don't mind that now, I can see that becoming a problem as the number of issues grows. This organizational scheme really needs to be reconsidered before it becomes a problem.

The legality status of the character isn't updated when a new campaign setting is loaded. It's only updated after a change (not a new selection) is then made to the character, or the restriction list is manually altered.

The update prompt should be automatically bypassed when no update is available (either because of a connection failure or because the builder is up to date).

Hm - honestly, we need a known issues list. Otherwise it would be a bit frustrating to report bugs if they are not fixed. I have reported the printing error with the power cards several times in the forums and via the bug report in the builder, and nothing has been done to fix it.

Some of the power cards are still totally useless (basically making the entite program useless), since sometimes the only text visible are the first three letters in an enourmous font. I won't go through the trouble with screen shots and attached character files again, since it seems that these things where forwarded to /dev/null

[EDIT]It seems that the problem has gotten better. However, mainly Wizard powers still don't work: Mage Hand, Flaming Sphere, and Cloud of Daggers are all corrupted.[/EDIT]

The cross class power stuff does work. I've created a couple of high level multi-class characters so far. The tools to do it are all there hidden in the retraining tab. But you are right.

1) the builder never prompts you do do the power swaps. you have to go over to that retraining tab and do it manually
2) it's also rather complicated to make it work. It DOES work, and seems to do everything correctly, but it is not easy to figure it out...

I'm a level 4 Drow Swordmage with a Sunblade Khopesh +1. Every power that lacks the "Implement" keyword uses these variables to calculate my attack bonus:
* Int mod
* half level
* proficiency bonus
* enhancement bonus

However Lightning Lure (which has the implement keyword) calculates it as such:
* Int mod
* half level

Its forgetting the enhancement bonus. HOWEVER it remembers it when I use a Light Blade (Khopesh is a Heavy Blade). Swordmage Class Trait says that Heavy Blades can be an implement.

That's actually correct.

It would be easier to understand if you were not a bard. Let's say you were an Inspiring Warlord who took Eyebite. You're not proficient with warlock implements, so you don't get the benefit.

Being a Bard doesn't actually change that. You're proficient with Wands as regards Bard powers, but not Warlock. If you then multiclassed into Warlock, you'd get the benefit.

This one may be a bit obscure.
I play a warlock with the arcane initiate feat and the powerswap feets, so i am able to use both wizard and powers with a Wand as implement. This works. At lvl 11 I now choose the Wizard of the Spiral Tower paragon path and choose the Wand as Corellon's implement. I then equip a Pactsword(longsword) as my primary weapon. Now, as I read the rules, I should now be able to use the sword as an implement for both my warlock and my wizard powers. But it only works for the warlock ones and not the wizard powers. This goes for both the power swaps and the at-will as encounter I get from arcane initiate.

Now, the question is, if this is a bug or I´m just getting the rules wrong?

The level 16 Pit Fighter ability "Dirty Fighting" does not display or calculate properly. It should add the fighter's Wisdom modifier to weapon damage rolls, but regardless of what the actual Wisdom mod is it only adds +1. It also displays as (isdom modifier) instead of (Wisdom modifier).

Looks like a mis-named variable to me, but what do I know . . .

The additional damage from a Staff of Ruin is not added in. In shows it in the breakdown but not the total on the power description or the power cards...

For my character, this is showing up as a problem in the damage workspace. It appears that all melee attacks are getting a Misc +3 to damage, and *also* a Misc -3 to damage. This can't be accounted for by anything else, and unequipping the Staff makes these bonuses/penalties go away.

What I expect to see is that only the Staff attack has a Misc +3, and nothing has a Misc -3...

Also, the power cards for the Polearm Master PP powers don't have the Attack vs Defense boxes filled in on the card, yet the card body text clearly has an attack line.

Edit: Actually, I've just noticed that one of the powers missing this information isn't from the Polearm Master PP. Specifically, the 2 powers missing details are:
* Leveraging Strike (Polearm Master 11 Encounter)
* Hounding Longarm (Fighter 5 Daily)

Both are from Martial Power.

The power card text for Bracers of Mental Might states:
Use your Intelligence, Wisdom or Charisma (+0) modifier...

The character in question has +6 Int, +2 Wis and +0 Cha modifiers, so it's clear that the card is just printing the Cha modifier. It should print only the higher of the 3 (preferable), the modifier for each ability (less preferable) or no modifier at all (least preferable).

1) Come and Get It calculates Atk value wrong. Since it's Weapon keyword, it should factor in your weapon and (in my case) One handed Fighter Weapon Talent. However, both are missing. And it's also missing the tagline at the end (In my case: +3 Fleshseeker Craghammer:, +17 Attak, 1d10+10 damage)

2) Pit Fighter Ability "All Bets are Off" needs a tagline for the secondary attack.

3) Hammer Rhythm should add under additional effects "Miss: Con (+5) Damage"

4) Rain of Steel should also have a tagline with (in my case) +3 Craghammer, 1d10+5. (For those wondering, +3 for it being +3, +2 for it being a hammer and I have Dwarven Weapon Proficiency)

Edit: 5) On Character sheet, add ability to modify font size. Basic attack reads: "Basic Melee Attack - Fleshseeker Craghammer +"

aha.

dumb rule imho. a worldly 12th level adventurer should be able to pick some new lingo.

He can, he just needs to pick up the feat. Think of it this way, just because you travel, you don't become proficient in a foreign language, unless you spend the time to study those languages that you are exposed to. Hence you need the feat to represent the time that you devote to study.

1) Come and Get It - It is missing the weapon line which auto-calculates my damage.

2) My Fighter MC into Ranger (Warrior of the Wild). Now on his attack powers, it has Hunters Quarry as an additional effect once per round, when in fact I only get HQ for two rounds a combat, not once per round.

3) Cross-Body Parry - I weild the proper weapon yet its bonus to damage is not calculated into the auto-calculate line right below.

4) Storm of Blows - Same as Cross-Body Parry. I would suspect this might be a universal issue.

5) On weapon power cards (and many, many other places), the text runs out of its text box. In this case it is the enchancement box.

6) Just to be safe, I carry both a magical javelin and a non-magical javelin. Neither weapon is equipped (I carry two swords, javelins are my back-up ranged weapons). In my Attack Workspace section, it calculates my Melee basic attack with the non-magical one, not the magical one. I try to delete the mundane one in the equipment section and add it below the magical one, but the auto-sorting always puts it above the magical one.

7) The Attack Workspace and Damage Workspace calculate my Javelin attack incorrectly. They give me a misc +1 to attack and +3 to damage. Now I am a Tempest, and this would be correct if the Javelins were off-hand, but they aren't.

8) The Attack Workspace gives me a misc. +4 to damage and a misc. +1 to damage, but I don't have anything which corresponds to these numbers. I do, however, get a misc. +2 (Iron Armbands of Power) and a misc. +3 (Tempest Technique with Agile Tempest).

9) Hunter's Quarry is listed as an At-Will power for me (see: #2). I wish!

*Bugs*

  • The Feat Agile Tempst does not increase damage from tempest technique properly. It does increase by +1 but this bonus does not increase to +2 at level 21 as the feat reads. At level 21+ with chainmail armor my total bonus is +3 from tempest technique and agile tempest instead of +4 as it should be per RAW.

  • The special properties of Masterwork armor do not seem to function. They are considered an armor bonus per Adventurer's vault and thus should stack with item bonuses. I have tried the Pitmail and Titanscale and neither will give a bonus to their respective defenses.

  • Armor specialization chainmail does not work. It does not increase your AC bonus. It does not adjust the skills section to reduce the check penalty. All it does is add a line in the feats section with a brief description. Armor specialization scale does work properly. I have not tried other armor types.

*Suggestions*

The agile property displays underneath the AC calculation as a "situational" modifier. This should be calculated into main AC value first so when I am shopping for armor I can see the impact quickly. The "situational" part should be losing the dex bonus when bloodied. Again, this is not a bug, but something that I think should be done if it is a quick change. If it requires significant recoding then it probably isn't worth it.

I love the program so far. But here are the bugs I have found:

I made a Wizard with the Expanded Spellbook feat and it allowed me to choose all of her abilities, but then it reprinted the daily abilities twice in the power card section.

The elven encounter ability (I think it's called Elven Accuracy) doesn't take make mention when you take the feat that gives you a +2 bonus on the re-roll in the encounter power card.

Thundering Strike for the Paladin doesn't add the +5 thunder damage to the damage calculation for your weapon on the power card.

Also, I don't think the program should give you power cards for items that don't actually have powers. For example, I'm getting power cards for simple +2 armor and such; I don't need a power card for these items since they're active all the time.

I was entering a rogue last night, and I added a Bag of Holding. Then I gave him a bunch of gear to put into it, but there was no manner by which I could indicate he was carrying things in the Bag of Holding. Furthermore, the terrific load of gear he was carrying put him into a heavy load, when most of his item weight should have been in the Bag of Holding. The character sheet listed his max load as 130lbs (+200lbs), which kind of works, but still had a note that he was heavily loaded when he would not have been.

Feats that require "any martial class" ignore martial classes obtained through multiclass feats. I found this to be true for Timely Revival, Martial Resolve, Epic Recovery, and Martial Mastery when using a warlord multiclass feat (Student of Battle). It did give me warlord only feats, including Avenging Spirit which is race/class.

Sextant of the Planes is listed as a weapon quality, but because it's not actually a weapon, there's no way to add one.

Soulsword (heroic tier) is listed under weapons instead of artifacts.

Stonesign, Dwarf Guardian (paragon tier) is listed under weapons instead of intelligent items. The same is true for Stonesign, Dwarf Guardian (epic tier).

Blade of Bahamut (level 19) doesn't list an enhancement bonus; based on its critical, it's +1, which would be lousy. There's also a note "AsImplement: Holy Symbol (Bahamut)" at the bottom, which could be a programming note that's misplaced. The same is true for Blade of Bahamut (level 24) and Blade of Bahamut (level 29).

Striking Staff should allow a character to make a melee basic attack with Intelligence while wielding the staff. Instead, it allows the character to make a melee basic attack with Intelligence with any weapon, going by the calculations on the first page.

Opal Ring of Remembrance doesn't add to melee basic attacks using Intelligence, whether they are granted with Intelligent Blademaster or Striking Staff.

Belt of the Brawler doesn't affect unarmed attacks. It should increase the damage die to a d6.

If you don't have a ranged weapon, you get Unarmed (range) as a ranged basic attack. This doesn't make sense; I'd call it an improvised attack.

As an interface choice, it would be nice to make the quantity field on the shop's equipment tab wider. When I'm buying residuum or similar items, I can't see how much I'm getting.

Bonuses to Magical Staffs apply strangely, especially once the Staff Fighting feat is applied.

Examples:
Staff Fighting + Two-Weapon Fighting + Two-Weapon Defense: Does not apply the +1 AC/Ref bonus to defenses with magical staffs (implements), but does with magical staffs (weapons)
Staff Fighting + Two-Weapon Fighting: With a magical staff (weapon) equipped, the bonus to damage from Two-Weapon Fighting is applied to damage of spells using the staff as an implement (don't know if this is a bug or a rules interpretation problem).
Staff Fighting: Defensive trait isn't applied at all.

I've found a bug with the 'Novice Power' feat. For better understanding here is an example build.

A warlord with the feat 'Arcane Initiate' gains a wizard at-will power as encounter power, e.g. 'Illusory Ambush'.
On a higher level the warlord may take the feat 'Novice Power' and may swap one encounter power he knows for one encounter power of the same level or lower, e.g. 'Burning Hands' for 'Illusory Ambush'.

This is actually not supported in the Character Builder. The Builder only offers warlord encounter powers and not the encounter power gained with 'Arcane Initiate'.

"Ruthless ruffian" rogue class path is all messed up. First, it does not allow you to use maces/clubs with rogue powers. Second, it does not add your Str bonus to rattling attacks. Related: rattling attacks never mention what rattling does... anywhere.

There are several powers, rituals, etc. missing - others have found most of them, but I'll add Shielding Retaliation (level 3 warlord from MP) to the list.

As someone said, the wizard "spellbook" powers are duplicated on the power card list. Like others, I've noticed several little typos here and there that don't really affect numbers, but they hardly seem worth mentioning in light of all the much more massive problems.

Whenever I select a spell scarred feat, it calculates the power based on the first option. For instance some powers give the option of using strength, dexterity or constitution vs reflex. My character has the two-weapon fighting feat, granting +1 dmg when holding 2 weapons. He wields 2 daggers. I expected the 1 to be listed on the damage workspace since my daggers are both equipped, but its not. I think its actually listed under misc as the damage reads:

1d4+1 0 abl, 1 misc

Also, these are not bugs, but they sure are buggy... can we get an option to turn off the power card options that are not applicable to the character level? For example:

At 3rd level, I don't care what the attack/damage options are at 5th, 9, 11, 21 or anything really beyond 3rd level. I recommend a toggle switch, cuz I'm sure someone wants them.

And, you give us the option to edit the wording on class/path/destiny and rce features, can we get that option on power cards?

I also notice if you Retrain Half-Elf Dilitante, the new power you pick, shows up as At-Will instead of Encounter.

I'm fairly certain the Half-Elf Dilettante power isn't supposed to be retrained. Could be one reason they didn't test it, but then again ... it's a bug that it can be selected to be retrained, I guess.

Also, I posted this in another thread, but I'll repost it here.

I am not sure if this is a bug or if it's intentional but whenever I create a character and paragon multiclass into Warlock (any pact) when I am allowed to choose my new at-will power, one of the options I can choose is the pact boon for the Pact I chose. Is this supposed to be a choice?

If it is, I can see it as being a nice thing to have along with a Quickcurse Rod...

Bug: Feat enhancements to racial or class powers are not included on the appropriate power cards. Specific examples: Improved Fate of the Void should be noted on the Fate of the Void power card (either under additional effects or by changing the bonus in the main card text); Ferocious Rebuke should show up in the additional effects of Infernal Wrath power card.

Bug: Sunrods can only be purchased or used in pairs; Rations, Trail can only be purchased or used in 10 day increments.

Bug: No way to use supplies included in Adventurers kit. In fact, you can't even select a specific item in the Adventurers kit.

Bug: Rimefire Plate Armor of Resistance does not list the resist 1 all on either the character sheet or on the power card.

Bug or Feature request: Rimefire Plate Armor of Resistance does not have any way to specify which resistance has been selected. Having the full range of options listed on the character sheet doesn't help anything, but it does fill up the resistances section of the character sheet. It would be much better to allow one resistance to be selected, then show just that on the character sheet. Alternately, list each resistance as a separate magic item (lightning resistance, fire resistance, etc.).

Enhancement Request: Add an option to the character sheet viewer to hide information pertaining to other levels. I've seen someone else asking for this, but it bears repeating. When I'm looking at a power card for Dragon Breath for example, I don't need a card full of text explaining that I could pick different stats at first level for Dragon Breath, that option has already been made. Nor do I need to know how much damage Dragon Breath will do at other levels, when I get to those levels I'll need to reprint the card anyway in order to get the correct Attack modifier. All this extra information just gets in the way of finding the information relevant to playing the character as built and at the current level. Having so much extra text slows things down during the game as the player tries to find what's relevant. It will also often result in use of a smaller and harder to read font.

Web Bug: The FAQ, know issue list, and Bug reporting sites are all non-functioning (I get a blank screen). But everyone knows that already. I just hope Wizards staff is reading this bug list.

I happened upon a bug that crashes the CB.

I moved my Class features list to the top of the first column on the second page in landscape mode. The screen freezes on the screen as it is trying to insert the panel I had moved the feat panel there first. This has happened 3 different times with different characters.

Also, I have had a couple instances where the "Other Equipment" section shows up blank. I have to delete it and open a new one through the menu to have it come up. Why can't we manually edit this? Why can we still not see what's in an adventurers kit?

Why do certain panels not fit into spaces when they should? Why can't we adjust the size of the Feat panel when we are lower than 30th level? I would also like to see blank lines in any panel be removed or added as we need them.

1 - I haven't had time to check all the items listed, but is there a way to list Residuum?

Not currently, but we should have that - added to my list of improvements for future updates!

2 - When listing "Show All Weapons on Power cards", for some cards, the font becomes too big and we can only see a few letters of the description.... this makes the card useless.

3 - Also, it was in the BETA version, but some powers cars appears the same way.

This is a strange and nebulous issue, we've seen lots of screen shots but never been able to reproduce it yet. Some upcoming improvements may address (by elimination) this issue though. In the meantime, try closing and re-opening the Character Sheet Viewer? Let me know if that works for you if you should see the huge text in a card again. =)

4 - When selecting to hide the page numbers, the page numbers still appear on the power cards pages.

Good catch! I will look into that. =)

This is a strange and nebulous issue, we've seen lots of screen shots but never been able to reproduce it yet.

Ok, this should work:
Get your hands on a German Verion of XP, use a Canon i550 printer driver, make sure that default paper size is A4, create a Wizard and - tada - Mage hand should show the bug.

Also do not install visual studio or anything, this may change the behaviour. I had the problem with all installations on all machines, be it beta or release. Only things I had installed which may have an influence is Avira AntiVir, current version of Acrobat Reader, FireFox and different versions of Ms Office (not different versions on one machine, but a different version on each machine I am working with)

I don't know if the algorithm you use to fit the text into the box is self written or if you use some Microsoft or third publisher API, but this thing definitely has a bug. If there is any way you can figure out in what font size the thing wants to print, I would just check if it is reasonable (e.g. up to the max font size you use on your cards). If not use the smallest readable font available. If you already do this it is very wierd and may be a bug of the API you use for painting you canvas - propably some clipping issue. (my guess: If the text exeeds the size of your text box by a certain amount, the font size is mangled)

If it is just a black box for you, you're out of luck, but you should definitely file a bug report to the vendor of the API.

Go into the folder where the character builder installed (C:\Program Files\Wizards of the Coas\Character Builder) and then delete the file named CharBuilderFull.version. Everything should work fine when you restart the updater. If this doesn't work there is a second solution to try. Go check out the thread talking of instal issues. For the purpose of meeting feat requirements the character builder doesn't take into account the stats you choose at level ups. For example I tried to make a dragonborn fighter who wields a pole arm. I started off with 14 dex and 14 wis. at level 4 I put my stat points into dex and wis, raising them to 15 each. I could not however take the feat pole arm momentum, which has dex and wis 15 as its requirements, until paragon when all of my stats got an automatic boost raising them to the required amounts with out my chosen stat raises.

Are you sure you are selecting the feat at the right level? Here's the steps I took:

Create Dragonborn Fighter (Str 15, Con 13, Dex 14, Int 10, Wis 14, Cha 10).
Level to Level 4.
Update Ability Scores to (Str 17, Con 13, Dex 15, Int 10, Wis 15, Cha 12).
Go to Feats page, select feat for level 2.*
Select Polearm Momentum feat for level 4.

*: Polearm Momentum did not show up at this point because at Level 2, I did not meet the prerequisites.
A character with 26 dex (ie +8 bonus) who is lvl 28 (+14 lvl bonus) and has improved initiative (+4 init) and quick draw (+2 init in addition to other things) has only 26 to initiative.

Quick Draw doesn't give a bonus in this situation. Improved Initiative gives a +4 feat bonus. Quick Draw gives a +2 feat bonus. According to PHB 275, bonuses of the same type do not stack.

Burning Blizzard is there. Remember that you must meet the prerequisites for a feat to have it show up on the list. 13 wis, 13 int in this case.

Escalating Assault is in there. The problem is, they have it as requiring Genasi as a prerequisite. So you don't see it come up, otherwise. It looks like they copied Genasi from Elemental Assault, which it is a prereq for.

This is actually a problem, by the way. I want to be able to see the entire list of feats in the Character Builder, whether or not I'm eligible for them. Color them red, or put a line through them, if I'm not meeting the prereqs. But don't just hide them.

You can choose to do that with "Show Illegal Elements" from the upper house-rule icon on the Feats page. It shows illegal feats as red. Hunger of Hadar doesn't seem to add my constitutution bonus to the attack roll for the secondary attack.

The Staff-fighting feat doesn't seem to register either the defensive bonus to AC or register as a double weapon for the purposes of the two-weapon defense bonus feat i.e. there is only a +1 bonus to AC. The sheet seems to have included the +2 damage bonus for the staff being off-hand for a tempest fighter.

Sword implement bonuses don't work for wizards of the spiral tower and a multiclass swordmage wizard can't use their sword as an implement for wizard powers (the latter is debated whether swordmages using swords as implements for their 'arcane' powers should be limited to only swordmage powers so this might be RAI rather than a bug)

This brings me on to a request! There are some official rulings that are quite controversial among gamers - what would be really useful is if there was an 'optional' rules sheet with tick-boxes for the most common house rules.

My two favourites:

I don't think Weapon Focus should apply to powers with the Implement keyword. It equates to two and a half feats when compared to Dark Fury etc. The feat has no pre-requisites, applies to weapon damage AND spells, and has no limitations on which energy types it applies to.

I don't think that the Double Sword should have the light blade keyword.

There are probably a few others but these are two good examples where people tend to fall in one of two camps so a tick box would be really useful.

For this one, you should be able to select Landscape mode in the Character Builder not the print preferences. Selecting in both causes a problem.

I read that as 'Bacon of Hope'... and I thought to myself, 'that would be a delicious error'.

Trying to print a custom layout landscape character sheet doesn't work, regardless if landscape is or is not chosen in print preferences. Here is the difference:

When landscape IS NOT chosen in print preferences, the landscape layout sheet prints as portrait, with the columns squished to fit the space horizontally and stretched to fit the space vertically.

When landscape IS chosen in print preferences, the landscape layout sheet prints as landscape, however the columns are still squished to fit an 8.5 horizontal space, and the columns are then cut off at the bottom of the vertical length.

Essentially, for landscape printing, the program is printing the sheet the exact same way, which is on an 8.5 horizontal and 11 vertical area, at all times. The print preferences of the printer determines which way the paper is oriented, but does absolutely nothing to the way the actual data from the sheet is printed.

Under Background Choice (optional) where you select your campaign background or campaign regional choice you can select "Create Custom Element". This works but doesn't allow you to enter your custom languages, +1 or +2 skill bonus, or bonus regional feats.

It is easy enough to add extra trained skills or extra trained feats manually but you can not enter background/regional skill bonuses and I am not sure if you can enter regional languages. Many regions or backgrounds provide a +1 to two skills or a +2 bonus to one skill. Please implement this in character builder.

PS: If there is a way to add +1 or +2 skill bonuses please shout it out.

If you manually alter the skill totals on the character sheets it carries the alteration back into the builder. It also calls up a box for you to explain where the bonus comes from. I had a similar problem with a custom magic item but it works fine.

I'm with you on the languages though - I play in Greyhawk and regional languages can't be added as far as I can tell.

Thanks for that bit of information. I would never thought to try to alter numbers on the character viewer. I also play in Greyhawk and when I begin my first 4E game it will be set there. So regional languages are a concern.

Good Gaming.

Drowmesh armor doesn't seem to give the bonus to Reflex like it should.
The Amulet of Elusive Prey also isn't there.

I created a Bugbear Ruthless Ruffian rogue and did not get to use my Large mace as a light weapon. Am I misinterpreting the rule (i.e. ruthless ruffians can use the mace or club for all rogue powers and feats as if it were a light blade), or is this a bug?

There is no "art item" or "gem" entry in the equipment section. These items (which are common in standard treasure parcels) have to be entered as house ruled items, which of course trips the flag making the whole character as houseruled.

Edit: Magical shields are equipped as off-hand items when they should be equipped as arms slots items. As is, it is possible to equip both a magical shield and an arms slot item.

Didn't see this posted anywhere: Eternal Defender epic destiny won't allow you to equip large-sized weapons as proficient.

Quick Draw doesn't give a bonus in this situation. Improved Initiative gives a +4 feat bonus. Quick Draw gives a +2 feat bonus. According to PHB 275, bonuses of the same type do not stack.

I did indeed do this and it still did not work. What I could do was pick a feat at level four then retrain it for polearm momentum. I suppose this fixes the pronlem, but it is a tad of a hassle.

My character has way too many wondrous items (more than 20 unique ones). When I click for the character sheet the Character Buildr crushes!

If I delete some of the wondrous items and try again, all works fine.

Stag Helm does not appear to be adding the +2 bonus to Passive perception.

Battle-rager and tempest fighters from martial power are still able to use "the fighter weapon talent" bonuses plus bonuses for the two new fighter sub-types are not appearing on character sheets. (if someone already mentioned this I apologize). Program is fantastic so far, Thank you :D

If you're playing a Ranger you have powersthat apply to both melee and ranged; however, you can only have "equipped" one set of weapons so only your equipped weapon shows up on your power card. It'd make sense to have a primary melee weapon and primary ranged weapon show up on the equipment list and on the power cards, or even "set 1" and "set 2" to designate between weapon sets in case of warriors who switch between melee weapon types.

On the character sheet options isn't there one that allows you to see all the bonuses from weapons for the appropriate powers? Go to "Options" and select "Show All Weapons for Power Cards." It shows up for all the weapons my ranger uses. Both of his melee weapons and his ranged weapon. I have full information for all three. Some even list Unarmed attacks.

There is no way to set the restistance type for Armor of Resistance and thus the whole text about the choice appears on the character sheet in the resistances box; over filling said box.

Huge thread, so not sure if this has been added yet...

The Class Features panel can become so filled with text that certain features are entirely cut off. This happened with me when I built a level 11 Tempest-style Fighter with the Shock Trooper Paragon Path, but I imagine any class list that gets a lot of notes added to it would fare the same.

Notes added to the Race Features panel will go over the edge of the line and get cut off, rather than having additional text appear on the line below.

If the Class Features panel is deleted, it can't be re-added. Seems it shares a button with Race Features and using that option adds only the Race Features panel.

I can't find a button that un-does edits to the brief descriptions in Class/Race Features. Erase User Edits didn't do it, not did setting everything back to the default layout.

A set of blank Power Cards can be created, but no data can be entered into them. I'm not sure if that's intended or not.

I had to play around to find it. It would be nice if there was a help file that walked people through some of the options.

One the attack power cards, you can right-click and choose Customize and then select which weapons you want it to list on the card, if you find you have a bunch of different weapons in your inventory.

Also, you can customize the Attack and Damage workspaces and the basic attacks workspace to show whichever attack - weapon combos you want to have ready access to.

Just be wary: if you have a power which doesn't do any numerical damage standard (like Bell Ringer from the Fighter power list) don't try to add it to the Damage workspace cause it will crash the builder.

The update was successful, but...

1) I had to delete all the pre-gen characters again. This will get annoying if I have to delete them after each update every month.

2) My custom Campaign Setting files were deleted. This will also get annoying if I have to make new ones every month.

I agree with this point. Character loading interface is cluttered and a bit kludgy as it is. It's workable, but forcing me to have to wade through a list of pregen characters just to find my own characters is really annoying.
