Any notion on if they will increase the number of characters you can create with the character builder? I love gaming and when I can't get my game on I usually make characters to fill the time ... so of course 20 is not enough.

Why dont you just Export them or print them to pdf or both?????

Then you can load and look at them at any time that you want to and you arent eating up your 20 character slots.

Why should there be a limit of 20 pcs in first place?

I all reality only the most hardcore player would ever need anymore than 20 character slots, really how many campaigns are you playing in?

I also imagine the limit might be in place to prevent malicious users from designing bots that do nothing but create characters.

If you just like saving your characters you can always export them and save them to your harddrive or just print out their sheets.

i dont think thats true vet, bc with the vt theres lots of one shots and i burned through like 60 builds in a few months. yeah you can export which i do but are these even big files? if theres unlimited monster saving i dont get why you cant save more pcs

Run out of slots then delete those one shot characters. Like I said anyone outside of the most hardcore wouldn't need that many.

I think the point is, if they are "one shots" why do you need the character after the "one shot" is over?

bc a few weeks later you might use it again

or if u are in a campiagn you might want to keep a copy of each level of your pc

its not the end of the world having to export, id rather they just all get kept one place though

its not going to influence my sub or anything, its just 20 is too low in my opinion

Honestly, I think that it's as naive to think they are ever going to raise that limit as to beleive they might ever reconsider compiling the magazines...

Maybe so, but rather than complaining about the lack of compliations I have redownloaded a lot of the content as articles and organized them in folders by feature (i.e., Codex of Betrayal, Deities & Demigods, Lords of Chaos, Demonomicon of Iggwilv, Court of Stars, Domains of Dread, etc.).  I actually like it better because I can have all the content of a like type in the same place.  Makes things so much easier to find.

So rather than continuously complaing about what I can't change (and I did complain once to make my preference known to those who can do something), I have adapted instead and am much happier than I ever would be wallowing in anger.

Brilliant. I can't even begin to understand how I didn't think of that as I constantly organize stuff by folders and sub-folders and sub-sub-folders (including my work to my supervisor's chagrin).

One of the things I hated about the mags is I would have to do a goggle (or wotc) search to try to find what mag # the article I was looking for was in.

So while I miss the compilations (for ease of downloading and because it made me feel like I still was getting  magazine), the article downloads do make it easier in the searching sense.

Thanks so much.

Army Vet

I understand and thank you for your sugestion about exporting I will figure outhow to do that.

However I take exception to your idea that only the most hardcore gamer would need more than 20.

I play in one game a week and occasional conventions etc. Not hardcore.

However one of the things that used to keep me feeling connected and excited about the game was creating charactors, experimenting with builds, stats etc.

In the old builder I had about 40 charactors created and the fact that the number I cold create was limited to my hard drive space made it a wonderful relaxing and really ejoyable way to unwind after a tough day at work.

I've filled my new builder and am now deleting things, whic has taken the fun out of creating them for me.

Anyway, for me 20 is not enough and has impacted my overall experience and pelasure in the simple fun of creating charactors.

I don't disagree with your expereince Kalex, however for many people being able to express thier anger is very different than wallowing in anger.

In my field I see a lot of people who are really good at "repressing" thier anger and it ends up showing up somewhere else in thier lives.

There has been a lot of speculation about the 20 character limit being a way to prevent one person from sharing accounts. Given that WotC has openly stated that the driving force behind going online was preventing piracy (and account sharing) this makes a lot of sense.

I'm not saying I agree with it, but it doesn't seem out of line with the rest of the bizzare anti-piracy decisions WotC has been making in the last year.

I agree with you Style,

However from a business model, it doesn't seem to make sense to alienate and drive away yrou core cusomer base to chase after money from people who are trying to abuse the system.

My guess is that people who were abusing the system won't change thier basic nature and begin to pay for a full subscription

My guess is thatsome  people who were fairly loyal core purchasers have ended their subscriptions because of the radical drop in service during these past months.

Its usually not a sound business desicsion to drive away paying customers because you wanted to prevent the non paying customers from getting the material.

I don't like the limit because I too feel it is too low.  I like to make one of everything.  And not JUST one of everything, but fun, interesting, strange variations of characters.  I like to make an elf fighter and a kenku fighter and a gnoll fighter and have them all be very different.  And I like to do that for every class.

20 character slots?  Doesn't really help me with that.  And the fact that they opened a backdoor to let us export (which I can and do use as a work around) doesn't make me trust that they won't close that door.

If it wasn't for the CBC, on which I still have many of my characters that I don't use as often, I would long since have passed the 20 character mark.

Devon, to be sure I do not have a problem with people expressing anger, but there are those who take this to unreasonable levels.  There are members here who spend literally all day long poping into threads to add their snarky, negative, catch phrase to every discussion.  I think you might agree with me that is unhealthy, and furthermore adds unneeded stress to those of us who find it annoying.  I think people should vent their anger once to WotC, and then after that only to willing friends, family and/or paid professionals, not hapless forum community members in search of information and/or entertainment.

I could possibly see that, if it was across the board, i.e. only one post praising anything WOTC does, one post about nay give idea, etc. and then only talking about it with their freinds and family. after all, fair is fair.
Personally, I get far more stressed out and angered by the people raggin on complainers and teloling them to shut up and get out(although not in so many words) than I ever did from the complainers themselves, and in fact, it makes me angrier and more unhappy with DDI.

THIS... is just crazy talk.  ;)

I export my dnd4e files into a folder, I must have 28 or so chrs, and just import, update and print to pdf as needed for game play.

On the flip side of the coin there are members who pronounce everything WotC does as the best thing ever even when its very clear its not. There are also posters that troll and flame other posters that have a negative opinion. I'm not really seing your point...

I don't know anyone like that.  Maybe you could name one?  The positive posters that I am aware of all find fault with WotC at some point or another.

Thanks to the forum for helping me start storing charactors on my computer. It has made a difference.
