Character Builder is now useless to me

I just downloaded and installed the latest Character Builder update, and it has rendered the Character Builder tool useless to me for keepign track of my main characters.

I have been using the Windrise Ports Background since it became available to be able to use two Multiclass feats. These characters are 16th and 18th respectively. Now its back to keeping track on paper, so there is no need for an active DnDInsider account. As of this posting I have canceled my DnDInsider account.

I have been upset with DnD 4e for some time now as implemented by WotC, and this is the final straw.

it's bad enough I had to buy all new books, but when those books are made outdated because WotC makes changes for purposes of balance, then all I see is DnD gone further along the stupid World of Warcraft path.

it's been nice trying the system, but its time to get back to a real AD&D game. Farewell, and I'll check back in when 5e comes out. Maybe the developers will have some brains then.

Yay, flouncing.

I can't comprehend the mindset that thinks balance is a bad thing.

Lol - don't be daft - you can use the house rule tabs to give yourself an illegal feat if your DM is happy.  I awarded extra feats and powers to my PCs to reflect their pre-4e adventuring careers and I houserule that my PCs get one extra 'floating' feat which they have to retrain between adventures to allow them to experiment with different builds.  I also let them retrain two things rather than one.

The Builder works fine even with houserules like this.

Don't try to use reason, paulIn6.  Waste of internet electrons.

I'm genetically compelled to play Devil's Advocate!

This alteration is nowhere near as irritating as allowing weapon focus feats to work on implement attacks and I can't houserule that out without scrawling all over the sheets because it's automatically factored into all the damage calculations.  Plus that boat sailed long ago with the expertise feat debacle.  Put you toys back in the pram, get drunk, and stay drunk.  And then get out of that pram, you're too old anyway.

How do you add extra feats?

On the Feats page, look at the border of the section in the lower-middle that shows what feat you picked at what level (the 'Feat Choice Checklist').  In the upper right corner of that section is a small symbol that looks like a yellow house with an 'H' inscribed in it; that's the Houserules icon.  Click on that, and you'll get the option to gain an additional feat.

In this case, though, you don't want to add an extra feat.  Windrise Ports never gave an extra feat.

What you want to do is look for a similar "house" symbol in the top right of the feat list.  You can click that, and turn on the option to show illegal elements.  That will allow you to take as many MC feats as you want.

I'm trying to figure out where the self-righteous indignation is coming from with the OP.  He didn't come asking...how do I make CB do ___________(fill in the blank), but instead is outraged what...that his build is no longer legal?  I get the feeling that his anger isn't even directed at CB, but at 4e in general and this is just his "excuse" to stop playing.  To that I say...if you don't like the game, they why would you keep playing after the first few sessions?

PS: Errata is a GOOD thing (errata is directed at organized play) and home game DM's are free to house rule to allow something if the player asks and it seems reasonable.

I agree errata is good but when you completely screw over the magic missile spell, that goes a little too far from errata.  I understand i miss always hitting but now it does so little damage it's not worth it anymore.

Now that they've changed the mechanic I suspect it gives them the chance to develop some feats and items to augment the spell.  It could be fun times again soon.

Talk to your group and house rule it back to its original state if you prefer it that way.  Seriously, it's not complicated.
