| #1isenhertzApr 08, 2009 6:24:30 | The CB currently eats a massive amount of memory, which severely hampers its usability on non-desktop computers. On startup, my task manager tells me it eats up to 80000 K on startup alone -- that is to say, the update check alone uses more than three times the memory of Explorer itself, and is on par with a Firefox Window with several tabs open. Once the CB proper is running, that bumber shoots up to over 129000, which is more than the total of my browser (76000), Explorer (25000) and SVHost (24000), which are the next biggest running tasks. Considering that the builder's memory usage actually goes further up with lengthy usage (such as an afternoon spent perfecting that one build idea you had), it's not uncommon for the CB to hit 200000 or more in a session, which renders my poor laptop Stunned, Dazed and Prone. And only quitting will give me a saving throw then. ;) tl;dr Some manner of reigning in the behemoth memory usage of the CB would be very welcome. |
