i attempted to create a mage using the necromancy school.  when creating a 'quick' essentials character necromancy nor nethermancy appear as options.  when creating a new custom character the schools appear as options, but none of their power choices are available when making power slections.  the powers do appear in the compendium, but not in the builder.

Picking the Quick Essentials option does not always give access to all the Essentials materials. You can build Necromancer Mages in the Home Campaign option, and should also be able to pick them in the D&D Encounters option when it updates to the season after March of the Phantom Brigade in 2-3 weeks.

Just thought I'd point out, no you can't. You can make a wizzard with the necromany powers, but then you don't get the necromancy bonus from being a mage. I'm not 100% on the exact differences of a mage and wizzard, but mages don't have access tot he majority of wizzard powers.

Any updates on this issue?  Was attempting to build a Necromancy Mage for Encounters this season, and realized that if you build a Mage you cannot see the new HoS Mage Powers!  As a side note, Wizards DO have access to them, but Mages do not.  Was hoping this oversight would be corrected before encounters (since it eliminates two of the new builds Encounters is supposed to be highlights--Nethermancers and Necromancers), but it appears this is not going to be the case.

Look for the check box for "Show Additional Options" in the power selection menu. It's obnoxious, and default doesn't bother to populate your build's power options, but it's there.
