I'm having similar issues to most other people with the Character Builder taking 20 minutes to get to the 100% mark, and then just waiting. I noticed my network link lights were flashing, and on closer inspection my computer was downloading and uploading data with only the updater running.

A quick netstat -ano listed many different ip addresses (50ish) from all over the world, all started by the tempelevator.exe process. What is it doing? Is there some sort of P2P functionality embeded in the updater?

I'm going to have to go back and read the EULA, aren't I...

Thanks for posting this. It was driving me crazy trying to figure out what tempelevator was up to, what was happening in C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\temp, and why I had error messages in the Event Viewer that said "TCP/IP has reached the security limit imposed on the number of concurrent TCP connect attempts".

I have to say "not cool at all" and, of course, neither was it effective. 2 days and umpteen tries to install updates for CB and AT? Sheesh.

There's nothing about this in ServiceAgreement.rtf (found in C:\Program Files\Wizards of the Coast\Adventure Tools and C:\Program Files\Wizards of the Coast\Character Builder), especially in section 7 (Updates and Patches). I'm going to have to look further into this as well. If they're doing what it looks like their doing without disclosure, there's going to be... a problem.

I have some friends here in SF at Wired, Mashable and C|Net who will want to look into this further themselves.
