I apologise if this has been answered else where, I scanned the FAQ's and various thread but couldn't find a clear answer.

Do you require a DDi subscription to CONTINUE using the full version or just to upgrade from demo and get updates.

IE: Can you subscribe for a month, get the builder and then not renew and the only thing you'll miss is updates? If you ever need to update in the future (IE, there is an update that includes content you actually need) can you sub again for another single month and grab the updates.

Or, if you let the sub expire, does the builder "downgrade" itself back to the demo version.

It may sound like a silly question, but in this brave new era of "rental" software, it's one I have to ask since money is tight and its a major factor in my decision. I don't really care for much of the DDi content at the moment, just the character builder.

If your subscription expires you keep whatever updates you had up to that point. You only need a subscription to update it. (Though if something happens to your install you will need a subscription to get it all back).

Yes you can subscribe at a later date and get all the content that you missed out on while not a subscriber. Whether it is one month after or ten, it doesn't matter. If you have a subscription you can update it.
