Character Builder Unexpected Error

Apr 09, 2011 12:51:11 Let me first say that I've had a wonderful experience with the character builder. I'm able to pump out characters for large parties in under an hour, and it's extensive and helpful.

That being said, this problem I'm having is beginning to get on my nerves, so I decided to seek some help.

I was going to a printer to print off my character sheets, and I emailed the sheets to myself. I closed CB (at that point working fine) and went back to the room where everyone was waiting. Since the printer was out of ink I just gave them all spare 4.0 sheets I had lying around and was going to read off their stats and such for each person to copy by hand. Upon trying to open up CB again (literally less than 5 minutes after it had previously been working) I recieve this message.

I then click on the Send Error Report.

Which then tells me each time I try to do it that it cannot connect to the server. So I click the Cancel.

I've tried uninstalling the Character Builder and then reinstalling it, but I just get these messages.

So after having to cancel my first session for a 6 person party and having spent a while trying to figure this out, I'm at a bit of a loss for what to do. Any help would be most appreciated.

If you have updated the off-line builder with the updates from non-Wizards sources in order to get the Essenials and later material, this could have broken your off-line builder (and you will probably need to uninstall and reload the off-line builder from the same source). Since there would be non-Wizards code in a Builder that has been updated from a pirate source, it stands to reason that the on-line Builder cannot process this information.

If you have not modded your off-line Builder to be up to date beyond the official update it received in September, then check your characters for houseruled elements (including LFR) which could be tripping up the on-line builder.

Aside from that, I'll have to let the folks who are actually tech savvy field the rest of the question based on the error messages you received.

Apr 21, 2011 14:44:25 I just went to use my offline CB and just got the same issue. I have done nothing with it since the last official update other than use it as intended. Guess I'll just go back to writing it out. Worked for years that way.

On the other computer, the online tool works awesome, but the downloaded version just won't work. Keeps giving me the above error message.

I just let my paranoid state get the best of me. Sorry about that.
