Jun 11, 2009 8:51:55 Is the WotC character builder the only one out there? I only have a mac so it won't run on my system. I would also prefer a free one

For better or worse, WoTC limited the licensing in v4.0, and took the electronic character builder in house. I remember e-Tools fondly, but even that looks shaky compared to Character Builder.

Only problems with Character Builder you have to subscribe to use it above level 3, and keep it updated. I don't know what happens if you subscribe, download and your subscriptions lapses - anyone else know?

If you get to keep it, but lose ability to get updates, then I'd recommend shelling out for 3 months membership, and getting Character Builder.

You continue to use the Character Builder, the only time it checks to make sure you have a subscription is when you update. So if your subscription lapses you can't update, but you can continue to use the builder.
