| #2GimrilNov 19, 2008 21:37:49 | I am getting the same error. Running Win XP SP3, Canon MP750 printer. The program seems very well done, with the exception of this issue. Update: I also have Pdf995 installed, and tried to print the file to a PDF instead; and the program still crashes. |
| #3BrotherDaveNov 20, 2008 12:14:53 | Ditto, and I'm also running WinXP w/SP3. I did run into the same problem many people did with cancelling the .net installation when it appeared to hang. But after that I downloaded and installed .net 3.5 sp1 manually from the Microsoft website, and my CB worked fine. Until a couple of days later when I tried printing a character sheet for the first time. I've tried printing to my local printer via LPT1. I've tried printing to a printer connected to my wife's computer via Ethernet. I've tried printing to a USB printer. I've even tried printing to PDF using PDF995 and CutePDF. But I always get the same error. I can capture a screenshot of a character sheet, and then print it using Paint Shop Pro, but that's a pain, and the resolution leaves a bit to be desired. I'm pretty sure the problem is with my .net installation. The error message certainly points in that direction. I just don't know how to determine exactly what the problem is, or how to fix it. I tried following the same procedure I followed on my home computer to install CB on my computer at work, to see if I could replicate the problem. But it prints just fine from there. Unfortunately, leaving it on my work computer is not an option (besides, I don't have a color printer available at work). Any .net gurus out there who can help? I know next to nothing about .net, and all of the references to this error I have so far found searching the web refer to people encountering this error while writing source code to access .net functions. Which doesn't really help me a whole lot when I'm trying to run someone else's program - which works just fine for most people - on my computer. |
| #4orc_tuhtethNov 20, 2008 12:37:35 | I have sent the error report twice now but had no response. Can anyone help. I'm not sure why you haven't received a response -- you would normally get some sort of reply, at least letting you know we got your message. Did you go to http://wizards.com/customerservice and click on the "Email Us" tab? When you do, make sure you set the category correctly so it goes to the right people; on "Select a Topic," set it to "Roleplaying Games > D&D Insider > Character Builder > Request Technical Support." I hope this helps! |
| #5pearsecjNov 21, 2008 11:51:05 | I reported the problem with an automatic button that the program generated when the printing problem occurred.I'll try using the link you provided instead. |
| #6GimrilNov 25, 2008 20:22:25 | I reported the issue, including my dxdiag.txt file and have not heard anything yet. Is there any way I can get info on any progress? |
| #7WolfStar76Nov 26, 2008 9:34:54 | Jeep in mind this is a Beta Test. While it's possible that someone may get back to you on your issue, the more likely option during this test is that the code/programming will be improved if its determined this is being caused by the software itself (and not a driver conflict or other issue unique to your PC and configuration). Unless/Until this is in full release, you can't really count on getting full tech support. |
| #8darjrDec 08, 2008 20:01:47 | I'm getting the same error as the OP. Can't print to any of my printers. |
| #9darjrDec 08, 2008 21:36:44 | http://social.expression.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/wpf/thread/c613d592-53f8-4190-b367-ec3a9e80512c/ Found the above. Could I need a different printer? I'll have to check to see if my printer supports what they are talking about. |
| #10darjrDec 11, 2008 20:33:25 | still no go on printing. Any word on this? Any help? |
| #11darjrDec 11, 2008 21:45:42 | I solved my printing issue. Specifically I would get the error "PrintTicket provider failed to convert DEVMODE to PrintTicket. Win32 error: -2147221164". The builder would then request to send the info somewhere, presumably wizards. My issue was with the MSXML6 install. To fix it I went to the add-remove programs control panel and removed all the MSXML versions. Then I downloaded the MSXML 6 service pack 1 from microsoft and after installing that I can print. That MSXML 6 service pack 1 can be gotten from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=d21c292c-368b-4ce1-9dab-3e9827b70604&DisplayLang=en#filelist Note that I have not done an update yet, so that may break things, also note that the above MSXML 6 sp1 would not install until I removed the old MSXML 6 Parser install. I can print! |
| #12darjrDec 11, 2008 22:15:57 | After a reboot Roxio DVD creator wanted to install something from it's DVD install. I suspect it is what fubar'd my MSXML install. After that reboot and a test of windows update to make sure that neither would punk my CB printing, it still prints. Good times. |
| #13krelnDec 12, 2008 6:53:15 | Removing and reinstalling MSXML also resolved the print error issues for me. |
| #14pearsecjDec 13, 2008 14:04:20 | Thanks Darjr.Your MXMSL remedy worked for me too.You're a star!![]() |
| #15darjrJan 12, 2009 21:32:28 | bumping cause I've seen this issue posted again. Is there a FAQ? Note that I think, but I'm not sure, that it fixed other issues I had. |
