I am noticing a dramitic increase in the incivility that is being displayed towards other posters in the DDI forums, and I have to say that I really, really do not appreciate it one bit, and neither, I am sure, do the other posters in the forums. I understand that, with WotC skipping the september update, and there being no information being put out by WotC,emnotions are running high. That is to be expected.

However, rudeness towards other posters is never an acceptable tone to take. Now, rudeness comes in many different forms. Sometimes it takes the place of demands to prove "proof" of a statement that was made or information that was available to prove that a person has factual evidence for why they feel the way that they do. This is a bad idea as, most of the time, a person's feelings are very subjective, and asking them to prove what they feel only results in them making a poor attempt to define what can only be felt.

Other times, it is through the use of terms such as "fanboi", "h4ter" or "koolaider". These are attempts to place a label upon someone as a manner of dismissing them and their arguments as worthless and not considering.  Using such terms is a fairly clear indication that you have no desire to have an actual discussion and are onlylooking for an echo chamber in which to hear your own particular point of view.

Of course, those are just some examples of the rudeness that I am seeing and, like I mentioned above, I would really appreciate it if it could stop right now. There is a lot of discussion going on that is really good and important for WotC to see/read. However, incidences of rudeness in the threads means that it is that much easier for WotC to dismiss the points of view in those threads as mindless ranting by the internet. If you truly wish to have WotC (and others) take your points of view seriously, a lack of rudeness is an absolute must.

For those that find their enjoyment of the forums being ruined by others who are being rude, I ask you to simply do two things:
  1. Do not reply in kind. This is a case where two negatives to not make a positive. being rude back to those who have been rude to you does nothing to improve the situation. It only makes things worse.

  2. Use the ignore feature. (Click on the little head silhouette underneath the avatar of the person, go to their profile and click "block user".)

Neither side of the divide is innocent in this. All the people that are involced are doing so because they made the decision to get involved in rudeness. I ask you to make the decision to *not* be involved.

Thank you.
