Compendium API

Is there a public API available anywhere? I saw this blog:

community.wizards.com/wotc_frazier/blog/...

Which has some pretty limited information. I can work with that but I haven't started yet. Before even starting I read the blog comments and people are already saying the information contained therein is out of date. I know people are writing apps (online, mobile device, etc) that access the compendium so there has to be a way to do it... it would just be cool if it was documented somewhere.

Anyone?

Thanks,

The only information from wotc was that link you mentioned and a post or two on one of the developers blogs. Which IIRC has disappeared.

The one thing they never added to the API was authentication so there's no way to get at the actual records without resorting to asking for the users DDI login and scraping results from the actual compendium page.

The SOAP API though will allow you to search, browse and filter search results.

The original site where these articles were posted mysteriously disappeared—it was called "Gaming in Code," I believe, but I deleted the links after the domain expired.

I'm guessing there's a gag order on the folks working on it.

Yes, that was the name of the developer blog I was thinking about, "Gaming in Code".

The SOAP API is not difficult to work out with a little time in something like or fiddler.

But it's also not much use, as there's no access to the actual data, the API is really just for searching the compendium. The search results API provides a url to the compendium page for the actual meaty info on any given entry.

So the most you could do with it is try and improve on the compendium search interface. Which WotC recently did themselves, the new layout it much much better than the old, a good bit of work.

It'd be nice to see an iPhone version though.

I wrote a minisite to help compendium searches; you can check the source and the README to see how to work with the Compendium.

(Apologies to those seeing this link twice today; not trying to push it, just was reminded that it was a thing I did.)

Also, here is a good (but out of place) thread about it.
