Feb 20, 2009 12:29:14 Please help me understand the DDI Compendium. The "demo" doesn't actually do anything, so I can't tell if it's something I want.

For example, I want a level 1 encounter. I do a search and one of the items is "Bloody Scalp Swashbuckler; 1 Elite, Soldier, Leader; Shades of the Zhentarim". I can't click on it to see what its stats are, and it took time googling to find that Shades of the Zentarim is an RPGA adventure that I can't get.

So if I subscribe to DDI, when I do that search, what happens when I click on the Blood Scalp Swashbuckler? Does a window come up with full stats? Can I print it? Is it text that I can copy and paste into a document of my own, to edit? Does it come with art? Does it tell me what the source document is/was and how to get it?

Feb 20, 2009 14:38:44 It is text. There is some formatting, but not that much. I have never seen any art in the Compendium.

Feb 23, 2009 21:59:06 Low level stuff from the PHB and MM are viewable without a subscription. Here is the goblin blackblade for example.

Feb 23, 2009 22:49:03 Thank you. I must not have clicked on a standard monster when searching. That at least answered my question.

It occurs to me that Wizards could add descriptive text in the Compendium even if it didn't fit in the book. This would be a nice "web enhancement" ... when you use the Compendium, you get several sentences describing the monster.
