This is the "Frist Published In:" information that appears at the bottom of the individual detail pages. The problem is a lot of material is published in multiple sources and using the compendium to locate them is less than optimal. This is particularly a problem with NPCs and adventure content (published adventures or Dungeon articles). Let me illustrate the problem. Assuming I am going to run Rescue at Rivenroar from Dungeon 156. As part of my prep work I want to go to the compendium and look over all the npcs. This particular adventure includes stat blocks for the following NPCs:
Hobgoblin Grunt
If I set the compendium to Creatures and the source to Dungeon 156 the only creature on that list that appears is: Sinruth, Hobgoblin Chieftain
Classes have a similar problem. All the build options are associated with the publication in which the class first appeared, not the publication where the build appeared. Case in point: Battle Rager. If you want the details on the Battle Rager build for fighters you actually have to select the Player's Handbook as the source. Martial Power isn't even a choice (even though battle ragers are actually printed). I notice that Battle Rager has a "Appears in:" tag. I recommend adding this to all compendium items (creatures, rituals, etc) and searching on this instead of the "First Published"
