Compendium doesn't load on mobile devices anymore? Why?

As a D&Di subscriber, I've been consulting the compendium pretty regularly during sessions on my iPhone. It's a small screen, but it's a good size for me.

Today, I clicked on my bookmark for the compendium, and it says that there is a Server Error in '/' Application. But the url looks weird. It's www.wizards.com/mobile/mobile.aspx - but the compendium url in my bookmark is www.wizards.com/dndinsider/compendium/database.aspx - but this url apparently is now redirected to the "mobile" url - maybe just for portable devices.

So I navigate through the wizards.com site to see if they've changed the official compendium url. Nope. When I get home, I click on my bookmark in chrome, which links to www.wizards.com/dndinsider/compendium/database.aspx and loads up fine. The behavior of the url on my phone has not changed: still no compendium on my phone.

So, my questions are: (1) why can't I use the compendium via the regular url on my iPhone anymore?

And, (2) why is my iOS Safari browser redirected to a url that doesn't work on my iPhone? Why doesn't it just tell me that the url I'm trying to access requires a different browser? Or that they don't like me? Or that they are trying something new?

I cross-posted on Enworld, where this issue might get a bit more traffic, since the forums are less fragmented.

Link.

Have the same problem with an Android app (Sylloge), but another (KMonster) works fine (maybe they change the user-agent).

It seems to be the case that they are redirecting the mobile browsers to a non-working (for now?) server; hope its a screw-up, and not intentional.

I noticed the same problem during my group's session this past Friday as I tried to look up an item level on my iphone. It worked toally fine the previous week (4/15/11), and now it seems to redirect me to a completely borked mobile version. This is the type of quality we're paying for?? Why would they change it to a mobile version that wasn't even done yet?

According to the poster on ENworld, the compendium appears to work on Android, or at least on an android app (after an update). Here's some help fom mudbunny:

If people are having problems, could they post here (or PM me) the OS (including carrier, because I *think* that makes a difference), the browser you are using on your smart phone as well as the link that you are pointing towards.

I will pass it on to WotC.

Can you give a link?

KMonster does work.

This post says that if you have an android phone, the updated Sylloge's D&D Compendium works.

Compendium hasn't worked on my iPhone 3GS since the beginning of April. I thought it might have something to do with updates and some fool made a mistake. Now we're at the end of the month and it's still not working. Why, again, is this happening? It worked and now it doesn't; what changed in the past month?

Same deal here. iPhone 4 used to work fine, which was near indispensable for game sessions and now it redirects to a broken mobile site. I've worked in the web industry for well over a decade and mistakes like this can happen, which is fine as long as they're fixed quickly. However, the fact that it's been happening for at least several days without a fix means someone is asleep at the wheel which is pretty inexcusable for a paid service.

The problem has been (mostly) fixed, and im now able to use the Compendium on both a 3.8'' mobile (android 2.1) and on a 10.1'' tablet (android 3.0).

There are still problems with the redirection after manual validation of the account, which redirects to an invalid page; going back to the compendium page and resubmitting a request (at which point the browser already has a valid login) will work.

Curiously, they seem to use a challenge authentication system, since using an automated process (login and password stored), which sends the credentials upon demand, does not trigger such redirection error.

I still can't use the compendium on my 3GS on either Safari or Opera.  I keep getting those server errors.  What is going on?

I just tried the mobile compendium for the first time on an Android Samsung Galaxy S using Opera mobile.  Tried to look up the entry on Familiars, needed to login, and got the same "/" error mentioned a few times here.  I backed up to the search, resubmitted the search, and it works fine.  Further reloading the page, new searches, back to search, continue accessing search results all work fine.  It seems for me to be only ocurring when redirected after login.  However, I don't see a logout option with which I could test logging in a few times.

Yes, it still happens; the workaround is as you describe.

There isnt one, not even in the desktop version; you need to navigate to the main page to logout, which will delete the cookies that keep the login open.

A tip: the mobile version of the Compendium is a slim down version of the desktop one, without filters; a few mobile browsers, like Opera Mobile (not the Mini version) can be configured to fake their type and announce themselves as a desktop version, which will allow the full version when visiting the link above (doing so with most mobile browsers will direct the browser to the mobile version).
