As I go through the compendium I keep finding little data errors, which I've been noting down.

Not knowing where else to take them, I'll post them here. They probably don't really need discussion, but hopefully someone, somewhere will pay heed and get them fixed.

1 - www.wizards.com/dndinsider/compendium/mo...
- under Blackfire it reads as "+27 vs or (whichever is lower)" - the AC/Fort/Ref/Will is missing.

2 - www.wizards.com/dndinsider/compendium/mo...
- No size is given

3 - www.wizards.com/dndinsider/compendium/mo...
 - There is some completely random text at the bottom which seems to relate to a character power, not this monster

4 - www.wizards.com/dndinsider/compendium/mo...
- Basic attack 'to-hit' stat conflicts with Adv Vault listing: +14 v AC in book (p182), +12 on Compendium.

There is a report a bug feature when you launch the tools, make sure you report there.

THanks for that - I actually found the link after I posted here, so I've sent them the link to this forum. I've found 2 more errors since then, so having this thread here is worth it. Plus other people might post their discoveries.

I love that users are finding errors and report them. Just keep in mind that, if you use the report a bug feature, your issues are automatically entered into our bug tracking tool where we triage and assign them twice a week.

Again, thanks for your contribution to make the DDi tools better.

A pleasure - glad to help and doubly glad that you're looking into it. I'll post all new discoveries via the bug tracker, but list them here just for reference's sake.

New finds:

#6 -  A large number of records have the data item  "Published in Draconomicon: Metalic Dragons."
It should be "Metallic". (Other records have it spelt correctly.)

#7 - The following creatures all share the same problems:
www.wizards.com/dndinsider/compendium/mo...
www.wizards.com/dndinsider/compendium/mo...
www.wizards.com/dndinsider/compendium/mo...
www.wizards.com/dndinsider/compendium/mo...

1 - No "origin"
2 - No "type"
3 - Misspelled source reference ('sILvers' should be 'sLIvers'

The origin/type should probably be "natural/animate", but that's just my opinion.

Well I just logged 72 more data errors via the bug report forum. I'm sure I won't be popular.

Here's my latest list of monsters I found errors in. The errors range from spelling mistakes, missing "AC/For/Ref/Will" values, duplicate descriptions of powers (that sometimes contradict each other), to-hit stats for heal powers, "Published in..." links that go to the wrong target, and other stuff.

WHAT HAVE I DONE?!?!?!

Laughing

Seriously, it's great. Just make sure to indicate what the problem was in each bug report, so we can pinpoint and figure it out quicker.

Thanks again!

Yes, all errors are fully detailed, right down to which specific line of the entry the problem is in, plus a copy of the text from the source where they conflict (and if I have it). Even the bug reports are numbered.

One example:

Compendium data corrections #53
www.wizards.com/dndinsider/compendium/mo...
Deep Goblin Curser
1 - "Incite Bravery" description: contains the text "+8 vs or (whichever is lower)" which is missing target defense, and also doesn't make sense in context (it's a basic attack + shift)

I'm off to Europe today for a few weeks, so you will get some respite... but then I'll be back.

When submitting them, I'm sure you can put them on one form rather than one at a time.

The reason is because it clogs the system. We had a PM spammer that would have been handled sooner if there weren't 30 bug reports right in front of it.

(Plus, your own mailbox won't be filled with thanks for reporting replies. FYI, those aren't auto generated. Each one was sent individually.)

Thanks!

I want to help fix the compendium entries.
Should I report all the monsters that aren't using the right format?
Can I list them here?
The new formatted monsters have a large white stripe below each name entry before the HP and Initiative entries

Also, do we know/is it on purpose, that only MM3 and HS1 entries are in the new MM3 format?

And how do we make sure we aren't reporting the same thing as others?
Is there a list other then these few web posts?

And the Compendium itself isn't looking right.
The lists of creatures are being clipped in in the list.
They bleed past the frame.
Happens in Firefox, IExplorer, and Chrome.

Happy to help, just tell me how.

Since this thread seems to be getting some official attention, I want to remind the staff that this thread over here was created by WotC for tracking bugs. However, it seems to get no official attention. There are a number of recent bugs captured on the last page. Thanks!

Dear Webster - boo fricketty hoo.

I spent the better part of 16 hours going through data fixing YOUR mistakes - for no reward or personal benefit.

Hence if I (or anyone else) send these corrections through at all then you should be grateful and not complain how it gets sent.

If your support staff aren't capable of scanning through all of the current issues and identifying high priority concerns such as spammers, then your problems go much deeper.

Frankly you can shove your comment where the sun don't shine. And from now on I'll keep all of my discoveries to myself - find and fix your own damn data.
