DnDi_Large.png  Compendium Update 07/10

With new releases and magazine material, and the extensive errata, such as the revision of Magic Missile to form with the attack in Essentials, the D&D Insider Compendium supposedly updates today.

Talk about this update here.

Let's just hope the Monster Builder updates today as well. By now there is no update available...

Updates to the programs and to the compendium do not happen until about 10 or 11Am PST (1 or 2 PM EST). They prefer to have those be done with someone right there to make sure that things don't go kersplooey.

As the father of a 2 1/2 year old and a 5-year old, I can tell you with 100 % factuality that kersplooey is a real word.

If it did, that's something that should have been posted as soon as they realized they werne't going to make today's date. No excuse for that.

Having said that, and being someone that loves the new format, and wants his monsters in that format, it won't be the end of the world, but it does reflect on WoTC.

Still not the end of the world.

I'm sure the compendium update will be published as scheduled, just delayed a couple hours for some reason.  I agree with you tho that information should have been posted as soon as a delay was identified.

Oh yes, I agree it's not the end of the world. It's just becoming a bit irritating now.

If only WotC would learn to communicate us when thing don't work out the way they planned. Just having Trevor or Mike come here and say "I'm sorry to say this, but......" would help alot.

At least they ignore everyone equally! :p  Seriously tho, isn't there someone in charge of DDI? Seems like someone in an official capacity should provide this kind of information.

Thanks for looking into it, Muds... Very much appreciated.

They don't like to allow the DDI staff come out of their redbull-induced caffeine haze enough to post on the forums. Takes too long to get them doped up again to an acceptable level.

Sigh... Just a word saying "hey sorry we had a problem, it'll be up in a few hours/days/next month" would do so much to make me a happier customer...

That being said if it does get delayed till next month again I'm going to be a bit annoyed.  The compendium, which I use all the time to look up rules, powers, etc., and used to use to make sure we were using the most current version of a given rule, is getting pretty out of date at this point and is becoming less and less useful.

I would think that the longer these updates are put off the further behind they're going to get...

I can't wait to start making monsters again...

I halted all work on my campaign until the MB got updated (about six weeks now)... I figured there was no way they could update custom monsters we made, so why make 'em.  I'm hoping by four or five pm PST today.

Has anyone else noticed that since the monsters now list all of the sources they appear in, the lines are huge... which would be no big deal except that when viewing 50 or 100 to a page, the bottom of the list is cut off and the bottom navigation bar shows up mid way through the list of monsters.

I haven't had a chance to update or check out the monster builder yet (just moved, no internet at home yet, and try not to do such things at work), but it sounds like at least there all the old monsters have been updated to the new format?  That's good news!

Have they been updated with new math too?  Or just the format? (The format is certainly enough, but new math would be sweet icing on the cake!)

Obviously they haven't been updated in the Compendium, but might that be on deck for the next update?  Seems like (though I know that just because it seems easy doesn't mean it is) if they're already updated in the monster builder, it'd be easy to update them in the compendium too!

I wouldn't really care that much except for three reasons:
1) I prefer to use OS X, and until I buy a copy of VMWare/Paralells I can't run the monster builder while using my preferred  OS (which for various reasons is what I generally run while running sessions), but I CAN access the compendium there since it's web-based.
2) Sometimes I like to look something up, or even print things out when I have a free moment at work. Rather than installing the monster builder on my work computer I'd prefer to have the best version of each monster there when I do that!
3) The initiative tracking program I use will download the stat block of a given monster from the compendium while I'm running it, so I can have all the data in one pace.  It'd be nice to have the new format there.

As far as I can tell, each monster in the builder has been updated to the new format but the math was not touched.

DrOct

I suppose that's not surprising.  "Disapointed" isn't really the right word, as I didn't, and don't, really expect them to update all the monsters with the new math, but it would have been sweet!  Regardless, the new stat-blocks are awesome, and I suppose given the way the Monster Builder works it wouldn't be too tough for us to update the monsters to the new math on our own!

So the monster builder math did get updated? I really wish they'd do the compendium, sorta surprises me that they'd have two sources for all their monsters. That doubles up all the work. Unfortunate for those of us who use the compendium 100% and monster builder 0%. Cry

No.

The monster builder updated the format for all the monsters to MM3 format. Math stayed the same. Though if what i'm reading, you can reset monsters, and when you do, it uses the new math.

Math and format are two different things.

As for using the compendium over the monster builder, your choice, but you do have access to the MB.

Most of the MM1 monsters who got the shiny new stat block were used in HS1: The Slaying Stone (Needlefang Drake Swarm, for example), so that makes sense.  But what about the gelatinous cube, which got a reformatted stat block but (AFAIK) isn't in that adventure.  Weirdness.

Compendium's faster and more convenient than the builder, so I am disappointed the formats weren't modified across the board (I don't care about the math, honestly). However, I assume that it wasn't just a matter of "change the stylesheet" for that, so I'm not going to lose a lot of sleep over it.

Is there any plan to add familiars to the compendium? It is really inconvenient to hunt them all down since they appear in multiple articles as well as Arcane Power.  Maybe add them as items with a new category or as creatures with the familiar tag. This seems to be the only glaring omission from an otherwise exhaustive list of material.
