| #1MarandahirJul 20, 2010 7:40:08 | With new releases and magazine material, and the extensive errata, such as the revision of Magic Missile to form with the attack in Essentials, the D&D Insider Compendium supposedly updates today. Talk about this update here. |
| #2EmiJul 20, 2010 9:16:40 | Let's just hope the Monster Builder updates today as well. By now there is no update available... |
| #3mudbunnyJul 20, 2010 9:26:03 | Updates to the programs and to the compendium do not happen until about 10 or 11Am PST (1 or 2 PM EST). They prefer to have those be done with someone right there to make sure that things don't go kersplooey. |
| #4Dane_McArdyJul 20, 2010 9:41:12 | Updates to the programs and to the compendium do not happen until about 10 or 11Am PST (1 or 2 PM EST). They prefer to have those be done with someone right there to make sure that things don't go kersplooey. kersplooey? Who do you think you are? Sara Palin? |
| #5mudbunnyJul 20, 2010 10:15:05 | Updates to the programs and to the compendium do not happen until about 10 or 11Am PST (1 or 2 PM EST). They prefer to have those be done with someone right there to make sure that things don't go kersplooey. As the father of a 2 1/2 year old and a 5-year old, I can tell you with 100 % factuality that kersplooey is a real word. |
| #6MockJul 20, 2010 10:15:31 | Mudbunny strongly refudiates such libelicious insinutations. |
| #7mdonaisJul 20, 2010 11:11:18 | Shouldn't the title of this thread be 7/20 not 7/10? Maybe I am missing something? |
| #8AirPower25Jul 20, 2010 13:09:53 | It was pulled from the grave by an Emerald Claw necromancer. Why make new things when you can necro old things. Old things have history :D |
| #9MarkAtkinsonJul 20, 2010 13:46:00 | Why do I get the feeling the MB update got bull rushed into next month.....again? |
| #10Dane_McArdyJul 20, 2010 14:08:16 | Why do I get the feeling the MB update got bull rushed into next month.....again? If it did, that's something that should have been posted as soon as they realized they werne't going to make today's date. No excuse for that. Having said that, and being someone that loves the new format, and wants his monsters in that format, it won't be the end of the world, but it does reflect on WoTC. Still not the end of the world. |
| #11DrOctJul 20, 2010 14:08:29 | Hmmm... update seems to be running a bit later than usual... hope it doesn't get bumped again like last month... |
| #12carolinacharlieJul 20, 2010 14:16:21 | I'm starting to get that sinking feeling about today's scheduled update. |
| #13VaeronJul 20, 2010 14:18:05 | Why do I get the feeling the MB update got bull rushed into next month.....again? I'm sure the compendium update will be published as scheduled, just delayed a couple hours for some reason. I agree with you tho that information should have been posted as soon as a delay was identified. |
| #14mudbunnyJul 20, 2010 14:24:36 | I am trying to find something out, one way or another, but so far, all of my sources are hiding from me on Twitter and AIM, and they have not responded to my email. As soon as I find something out, I will let you guys know. |
| #15MarkAtkinsonJul 20, 2010 14:26:19 | Why do I get the feeling the MB update got bull rushed into next month.....again? Oh yes, I agree it's not the end of the world. It's just becoming a bit irritating now. If only WotC would learn to communicate us when thing don't work out the way they planned. Just having Trevor or Mike come here and say "I'm sorry to say this, but......" would help alot. |
| #16MarkAtkinsonJul 20, 2010 14:29:05 | I am trying to find something out, one way or another, but so far, all of my sources are hiding from me on Twitter and AIM, and they have not responded to my email. Thanks Mudbunny thats much appreciated. for you. |
| #17VaeronJul 20, 2010 14:30:51 | I am trying to find something out, one way or another, but so far, all of my sources are hiding from me on Twitter and AIM, and they have not responded to my email. At least they ignore everyone equally! :p Seriously tho, isn't there someone in charge of DDI? Seems like someone in an official capacity should provide this kind of information. Thanks for looking into it, Muds... Very much appreciated. |
| #18mudbunnyJul 20, 2010 14:32:39 | I am trying to find something out, one way or another, but so far, all of my sources are hiding from me on Twitter and AIM, and they have not responded to my email. They don't like to allow the DDI staff come out of their redbull-induced caffeine haze enough to post on the forums. Takes too long to get them doped up again to an acceptable level. |
| #19carolinacharlieJul 20, 2010 15:12:01 | Gotta tell you -- I don't think it's happening today. Just sayin. |
| #20DrOctJul 20, 2010 15:25:10 | Sigh... Just a word saying "hey sorry we had a problem, it'll be up in a few hours/days/next month" would do so much to make me a happier customer... That being said if it does get delayed till next month again I'm going to be a bit annoyed. The compendium, which I use all the time to look up rules, powers, etc., and used to use to make sure we were using the most current version of a given rule, is getting pretty out of date at this point and is becoming less and less useful. I would think that the longer these updates are put off the further behind they're going to get... |
| #21microblessJul 20, 2010 15:35:45 | Sigh... Just a word saying "hey sorry we had a problem, it'll be up in a few hours/days/next month" would do so much to make me a happier customer... How about this: "It's currently being worked on and will be up in a few hours!" ![]() |
| #22DrOctJul 20, 2010 15:36:51 | That'll do it! Consider me a much happier customer! |
| #23carolinacharlieJul 20, 2010 15:39:42 | Thanks! Also just saw the tweet from @Wizards_DnD -- thanks gang! |
| #24MarkAtkinsonJul 20, 2010 15:43:39 | Sigh... Just a word saying "hey sorry we had a problem, it'll be up in a few hours/days/next month" would do so much to make me a happier customer... Oh well, looks like I'll have to blame WotC when I get to work late tomorrow. ![]() |
| #25frothsofJul 20, 2010 15:45:43 | so....all the monsters will be reformatted? |
| #26microblessJul 20, 2010 15:47:17 | so....all the monsters will be reformatted? I'm trying to get a list of fixes/features. I'm just a community guy. They say "Spread this good news" and I say "ALL RIGHT! I LOVE GIVING GOOD NEWS!" and you guys say "YAY! GOOD NEWS!" |
| #27PinkRoseJul 20, 2010 15:48:39 | WotC_Microbless, I'm not sure you understand how important that little post of yours is. It makes a huge difference just knowing someone is listening and working on it. Thanks. |
| #28retsej_esiwJul 20, 2010 15:49:05 | News, good or bad, is always preferable to silence. |
| #29frothsofJul 20, 2010 15:50:32 | for real |
| #30microblessJul 20, 2010 15:51:17 | @WotC_Microbless, I'm not sure you understand how important that little post of yours is. Well I was hired on to listen. So I'm glad it's working for me, and for you guys. ![]() ![]() |
| #31PinkRoseJul 20, 2010 15:52:57 | What's your name and job title and what do you do so we know who to tell them to give the raise to? |
| #32OgreBane99Jul 20, 2010 15:54:13 | I can't wait to start making monsters again... I halted all work on my campaign until the MB got updated (about six weeks now)... I figured there was no way they could update custom monsters we made, so why make 'em. I'm hoping by four or five pm PST today. |
| #33microblessJul 20, 2010 15:55:00 | What's your name and job title and what do you do so we know who to tell them to give the raise to? Looks like my sig. went away. ![]() Michael Robles Online Community Coordinator Wizards of the Coast. |
| #34OreJul 20, 2010 17:29:33 | I just got the update for the Monster Builder. Man, I am in love with the new layout for critters. Going to make the DM's job even easier. |
| #35BlakeyJul 21, 2010 2:21:16 | Hmmm, I see that the new monsters have the new format in the compendium but the old monsters have the old format. Is that going to change? I'm really surprised that the old monsters aren't using the new format as well. Cheers! Blakey |
| #36Dane_McArdyJul 21, 2010 4:37:59 | Hmmm, I see that the new monsters have the new format in the compendium but the old monsters have the old format. Is that going to change? I'm really surprised that the old monsters aren't using the new format as well. My old monsters have the new format. |
| #37BlakeyJul 21, 2010 4:45:11 | My old monsters have the new format. In the Compendium? (which is what this thread and my question was about). Cheers Blakey |
| #38Dane_McArdyJul 21, 2010 6:14:22 | My old monsters have the new format. Opps correct, my bad, I mis read. |
| #39BlakeyJul 21, 2010 6:18:22 | Okay, no worries. So, can anyone tell me if there are plans to update the old monsters? |
| #40OsgoodJul 21, 2010 8:08:31 | Has anyone else noticed that since the monsters now list all of the sources they appear in, the lines are huge... which would be no big deal except that when viewing 50 or 100 to a page, the bottom of the list is cut off and the bottom navigation bar shows up mid way through the list of monsters. |
| #41DrOctJul 21, 2010 10:01:00 | I haven't had a chance to update or check out the monster builder yet (just moved, no internet at home yet, and try not to do such things at work), but it sounds like at least there all the old monsters have been updated to the new format? That's good news! Have they been updated with new math too? Or just the format? (The format is certainly enough, but new math would be sweet icing on the cake!) Obviously they haven't been updated in the Compendium, but might that be on deck for the next update? Seems like (though I know that just because it seems easy doesn't mean it is) if they're already updated in the monster builder, it'd be easy to update them in the compendium too! I wouldn't really care that much except for three reasons: 1) I prefer to use OS X, and until I buy a copy of VMWare/Paralells I can't run the monster builder while using my preferred OS (which for various reasons is what I generally run while running sessions), but I CAN access the compendium there since it's web-based. 2) Sometimes I like to look something up, or even print things out when I have a free moment at work. Rather than installing the monster builder on my work computer I'd prefer to have the best version of each monster there when I do that! 3) The initiative tracking program I use will download the stat block of a given monster from the compendium while I'm running it, so I can have all the data in one pace. It'd be nice to have the new format there. |
| #42AirPower25Jul 21, 2010 10:06:23 | @DrOct As far as I can tell, each monster in the builder has been updated to the new format but the math was not touched. |
| #43DrOctJul 21, 2010 10:45:17 | I suppose that's not surprising. "Disapointed" isn't really the right word, as I didn't, and don't, really expect them to update all the monsters with the new math, but it would have been sweet! Regardless, the new stat-blocks are awesome, and I suppose given the way the Monster Builder works it wouldn't be too tough for us to update the monsters to the new math on our own! |
| #44Dane_McArdyJul 21, 2010 10:49:38 | @DrOct The builder, yes, but the online conpendium, no. |
| #45jouctasJul 21, 2010 11:06:16 | So the monster builder math did get updated? I really wish they'd do the compendium, sorta surprises me that they'd have two sources for all their monsters. That doubles up all the work. Unfortunate for those of us who use the compendium 100% and monster builder 0%. ![]() |
| #46Dane_McArdyJul 21, 2010 11:18:09 | So the monster builder math did get updated? I really wish they'd do the compendium, sorta surprises me that they'd have two sources for all their monsters. That doubles up all the work. Unfortunate for those of us who use the compendium 100% and monster builder 0%. No. The monster builder updated the format for all the monsters to MM3 format. Math stayed the same. Though if what i'm reading, you can reset monsters, and when you do, it uses the new math. Math and format are two different things. As for using the compendium over the monster builder, your choice, but you do have access to the MB. |
| #47carolinacharlieJul 21, 2010 11:24:27 | It's weird. I just went through the Compendium a bit, and a few of the MM1 monsters have the MM3 stat block format but most of them do not. |
| #48carolinacharlieJul 21, 2010 11:30:36 | It's weird. I just went through the Compendium a bit, and a few of the MM1 monsters have the MM3 stat block format but most of them do not. Most of the MM1 monsters who got the shiny new stat block were used in HS1: The Slaying Stone (Needlefang Drake Swarm, for example), so that makes sense. But what about the gelatinous cube, which got a reformatted stat block but (AFAIK) isn't in that adventure. Weirdness. |
| #49MockJul 21, 2010 11:45:51 |
Compendium's faster and more convenient than the builder, so I am disappointed the formats weren't modified across the board (I don't care about the math, honestly). However, I assume that it wasn't just a matter of "change the stylesheet" for that, so I'm not going to lose a lot of sleep over it. |
| #50phoffmanJul 21, 2010 17:03:13 | I am very pleased that the Player Handbook 3 , Skill powers are now listed in the Compendium. |
| #51BlakeyJul 22, 2010 9:43:44 | Can someone official from WotC tell us if there is a plan to update the older monsters to the new format in the Compendium please? Cheers! |
| #52mudbunnyJul 22, 2010 9:57:26 | I have poked and will get back to you guys as soon as I get a response. |
| #53MouseferatuJul 22, 2010 12:33:00 | Has anyone else noticed that since the monsters now list all of the sources they appear in, the lines are huge... which would be no big deal except that when viewing 50 or 100 to a page, the bottom of the list is cut off and the bottom navigation bar shows up mid way through the list of monsters. I'm having thiis problem, too. And it's making it very difficult to access some of the "covered" monsters. ![]() |
| #54mudbunnyJul 22, 2010 13:44:03 | I have been poking about this issue, and will pass on any info that I get. |
| #55ppaladin123Jul 22, 2010 20:39:58 | Is there any plan to add familiars to the compendium? It is really inconvenient to hunt them all down since they appear in multiple articles as well as Arcane Power. Maybe add them as items with a new category or as creatures with the familiar tag. This seems to be the only glaring omission from an otherwise exhaustive list of material. |
| #56BlakeyJul 23, 2010 2:47:24 | I have poked and will get back to you guys as soon as I get a response. Cheers Mr Bunny! |
