Basically one of my players wants to play barbarian, I am thinking of skipped buying the Players Handbook pt2 as most of the classes are not used and go for the class description in the compendium. My question is, can I rely solely on that as a self contained source of info or will things like that make reference to books and source material I may not have? Thanks for your help. |

It all depends on the class. For example if I were to make a rogue everything I need is contained in the compendium. However if I wanted to make a wizard I could, but without the PHB there is something I wouldn't know. The wizards class, powers, feats, and rituals are in the compendium and in the wizards writeup it explains the free rituals that a wizard gets, but the compendium doesn't have the rules for gaining rituals besides the free ones that a wizard gets for leveling. I used wizard and rogue as examples because they are part of the demo compendium if you launch it you can see for yourself what is contained in the class write ups. Things like Alchemy Rituals are also in the compendium, but the rules for them are not. So if a class doesn't use stuff that needs extra rules, then the compendium will contain everything you need to know. Otherwise you may need the book (or come up with something yourself for that part of the class). |
