#1 devp Dec 18, 2009 16:24:29	These are two things that would be useful when I'm building a character (and not using the character builder). Is there a way to get a filtered list of feats? Or separately, any kind of list of backgrounds? The search options don't seem to be there for either.
#2 poseidon88 Dec 19, 2009 1:39:26	You can search Feats.  The filter options are very limited, though.  Mainly you can only filter by character tier.  Beyond that, you can search on keywords.  What were you hoping for? Backgrounds aren't in the Compendium. I'm curious, though:  If you are using a computer while you build your character, why not just use the Character Builder?  Or are you using some other device to access the web?

And expense.  Windows licenses are not free, nor is Parallels/VmWare Fusion.  That's not "Character Builder working", that's "and there's a hackaround for Mac users(/Linux users)"

I don't know about him, but what I would hope for is some improved filtering options - currently you can't even perform the most basic filtering, such as by race or class.

It would display Feats that can be selected by Elves - Those with no racial requirement, or those that require you to be an Elf.  It would exclude options that are illegal for elves. I think the idea should be to allow searching for feats that you would want for a particular character, so the above idea fits that the best. Also: Shameless Plug community.wizards.com/go/post/reply/7588... There are several minor problems with Compendium that are driving me crazy.  Like really crazy. I don't want to sound like a whiner, I really don't.  Compendium is a great resource.  I love CharBuilder to death, use it all the time, and have only very minor critiques to make about it. ... 1)  There are no filters to view non-class specific powers. Racial powers, paragon path powers, feat powers, etc are ONLY viewable from the VIEW ALL setting. ... 4) Feats have, literally, the worst filters in the entire database.  They should have the most robust. The thing with feats is there are LOTS of them (quickly approaching 2000), and many feats are relevant throughout a character's lifetime.  Additionally, each Feat Choice is a major undertaking under any circumstance just because of the breadth of options available.  Some additional filters would make browsing for feats bearable. What I'm saying is that powers are easy to browse; you are limited to less than 30 choices in most cases, because searching for "Level 9 Fighter powers" is easy. Races, classes, and rituals are usually only accessed for reference or to double-check things. Items are the most extensive group of records, but they are easy to filter by level/cost and, most importantly, category of item What I, and presumably many others, use Compendium for is to look up things we half-remember but can't find elsewhere. Items have an adequte search filter, because I can at lest do a search for "Weapons" with "Fire" in the description.  That just generated 48 results, and skimming that list should spark my memory some more. Feats, notsomuch I feel feats really need some other filter settings.  Skimming through a list of 400 results is idiotic.  Many people would just think 'forget this, I give up' I have had this problem dozens of times. Anyway, enough whining.  Here's what I'd like to see added to the Feat filters: Race, Class, stat requirements Some liberties would have to be taken in some cases, but honestly even if some details were overlooked it would still be an improvement.
