Hi! I am considering to run Scales of War adventure path as our players really enjoyed playing RHoD.

Well, reading the first adventure (Rescue at Rivenroar), it seems that the default time setting is about 10 years after the former campaign. But I cannot find any of the named NPCs in RHoD in there.

Does that mean I should assume that all of these NPCs are dead or moved to some other place?

I know some of the NPCs don't work well in 4e (say, that Aasimar cleric who is in love with the lord). But it seems rather odd that all of those med-level NPCs are gone within 10 years. There were several elven NPCs in RHoD and they will not likely to die by old age, soon.

Will we likely to see some of the NPCs in the RHoD campaign, in later adventures in Scales of War?

Or shall I personally add those NPCs in SoW or make the SoW stats, say, after several centuries after RHoD?

if i remember from back when i ran the first adventure i think that 10 years is flexable.  it could easily be 50 years later and really not change anything.  if you feel like the npc's would be missed then add them in, or add in their descendants.  one of the kidnapped people could easily be changed to the sun/daughter of one of those npc's or even the origional heros.

RoR is very loosely tied to RHoD, if you want there to be aby links between the two adventures, you'd have to add them in yourself.  Also, you may want to read up on these boards and google for the Scales of War wiki for tons of helpful tips about how to make the SoW adventures tie together better.

Agree with the above.  The SoW is not really tied to RHoD except for some mention in the first adventure.  I believe this was done as an intentional choice (so as not to have groups who did not go through RHoD feel as though they were missing out).  To be honest, from what I've read so far, you could pretty easily completely leave out any mention of the RHoD and the campaign will still run fine.  Granted the ultimate enemy in the campaign certainly bears significance to the RHoD (in a sense), but the campaign runs just fine without it.

All that being said, there's absolutely nothing wrong with throwing in NPCs from RHoD (or their descendants), and this might be particularly effective if your group ran through the RHoD back in the 3.x days as it will help make the world feel real to them.  My group is mostly new to D&D and none have gone through RHoD so I am treating it more as window dressing and as a means to get them interested in the first adventure -- which does at least start to sow the seeds for the rest of the campaign.  For them, they'll never know about the NPCs unless they choose to research it on their own.  I did; however, make some of the NPC relatives of those who fought the Red Hand, or their descendants -- though I pushed the campaign out to 50 after the RHoD.

Thank you for replies. So we will not likely to see any NPCs from RHoD if we play as it is.

There were so many named NPCs in Brindol and Elsir Vile. And it seems really odd that all of those NPCs, including the Lord, the Priestess of Pelor, and other important people are all gone within 10 years. It is much safer to set the timeline 50 years or even a century after RHoD. Then most of the NPCs, especially human will have been died already.

Maybe I can let appear some elves (wild elves in 3.5e).
