| #1CyvarisJan 19, 2009 20:31:30 | Is it possible to convert the character sheets from the character builder into pdf or a similar file type? I do not have a printer and when i save them to my flash drive it need to have the builder installed to bring up the sheet, any solutions? |
| #2jwalkerJan 19, 2009 21:13:45 | You need to be able to "print" to pdf. Try this out http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/ I've never used it so you'll have to check out their documentation for help. |
| #3flamepulse2Jan 19, 2009 22:23:28 | another good free program is primoPDF. I use it all the time. |
| #4ah_graht_dupJan 20, 2009 9:56:42 | CutePDF and PDF Redirect are also good options. |
| #5CyvarisJan 20, 2009 16:10:43 | Thank you, do you ever think wizards will figure out a way to save them as a diffrent file type? |
| #6jwalkerJan 20, 2009 16:36:18 | Thank you, do you ever think wizards will figure out a way to save them as a diffrent file type? If they wanted to do it, it wouldn't take much figuring. I would imagine they'll keep it proprietary, since the character builder will be a paid service. |
| #7flamepulse2Jan 20, 2009 22:13:33 | honeslty hteir are so many programs out their for free that can do it why waste the time coding it into the game. they can devot their time and effort elswhere. |
| #8BlakeyJan 21, 2009 4:33:51 | I have used CutePDF but it saves each page as a separate pdf file. Not very handy. I'm using Build 188714 (Dec 11th 2008) of the CB. Is there a later version which will generate a single PDF? Or can someone confirm that a different PDF generator than CutePDF will generate one file? Cheers Blakey |
| #9sebbyJan 21, 2009 9:16:25 | I have used CutePDF but it saves each page as a separate pdf file. Not very handy. Same problem here. I'm using the Acrobat 7.0 PDF printer driver, and pages are generated in separate documents too. The problem seems to be with the CB then. I think the CB is sending each page to the printer as a separate print job instead of a single, multi-page job. Edit: this is for the same build you are using (188714 Dec. 11 '08). |
| #10galynJan 21, 2009 10:09:03 | I have the same problem. When I print to Cute PDF it prints as multiple pages, which wouldn't normally be so bad, I have adobe and have merged them into one document. However, when all is said and done, all it seems to really do is save the last page only. None of the others. I corrected this by printing one page at a time, which is a little tedious. And since I'm using Vista, I also had to set my color scheme to windows standard while I printed to get it to print everything. |
| #11sebbyJan 21, 2009 10:51:06 | The Acrobat PDF printer driver prompts with a "save as" dialog for every page (so you must attend to the whole print job), and the default file name is always the same so it has to be manually changed or every page but the last are overwritten. |
| #12WolfStar76Jan 21, 2009 11:52:41 | The Builder does, indeed (as of this beta) generate each an every page separately, instead of building them into one job before sending them to the spooler. This is also why we can't currently print Duplex. I *think* (not very sure) that mdonais said this will be fixed in the final build. |
| #13ah_graht_dupJan 21, 2009 21:47:50 | I use PDFRedirect. It merges the separate pages into one PDF file. |
| #14whitebaronJan 22, 2009 0:56:46 | many printer drivers can also merge seperate print jobs into one document, as can tools like fineprint. still, it strikes me as very odd, that printing is so messed up - that's one of the basic functionalities of such a product, pretty easy and forward to do in .NET |
| #15flamepulse2Jan 23, 2009 0:28:48 | I use primoPDF and it puts all the pages into 1 file. |
| #161958FuryJan 24, 2009 8:44:07 | When y'all convert them to PDF, do any of you have a problem with it cutting off the "Thievery" skill at the bottom (in favor of the footer)? I've been moving the "Initiative" box over to the top of the third column to get around this, which works just fine, but I hope they fix it in the final version. |

| #20klaustheprinceJan 25, 2009 6:05:18 | I use PDF Factory Pro, and it works just fine for me. Just leave no margin on the printed copy, or it would cut out parts of the sheet. |
| #21BlakeyJan 27, 2009 4:57:52 | Great News: Just tried the full official version of the CB and used CutePDF to write to a PDF file - this time it writes the whole character sheet out to one PDF in one hit. Under the Demo using Cute PDF it would write one file per page. Great stuff - it is now a synch to create PDFs of character sheets on the fly!! :D |
| #22MockJan 27, 2009 7:05:53 | Awesome. |
| #23rayomanJan 27, 2009 17:40:35 | easyPDF works fine. |
| #24webrunnerJan 28, 2009 10:59:21 | XP here I used PDFCreator with the beta and it worked fine (other than being seperate sheets) However, with the full version, I am getting the 'cut off thievery' issue with PDF creator.. somehow this has changed since the beta. But, it works in PDF Redirect (other than various aspects of the sheet being slightly misaligned.. such as the boxes hugging the left margin while the black backgrounds have space, giving it an overlap) |
| #251958FuryJan 28, 2009 11:28:01 | Mine no longer cuts off the bottom of the page, but for each skill itself, the bottom of the number looks a little cut off. Still readable, but just odd. Mine also hugs the edges like mentioned above. I haven't printed one yet to see how it looks. An example is here. I use Vista, and exported with CutePDF. |
| #26ladybamJan 30, 2009 23:10:16 | You need to be able to "print" to pdf. Try this out http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/ Works great, i use this at work and home Thx |
| #27LalatoFeb 02, 2009 14:20:53 | In PDFCreator... instead of Save, select Waiting. This will allow each page to queue up so that you can perform a merge/combine. Once the pages are queued, select all of the them and then choose Combine from the Document menu. Once the pages are "combined", choose Print from the Document menu to create the PDF. Good luck! --sam |
