| #1ygdrassilusNov 22, 2010 8:29:22 | So, I'm not sure if this has been mentioned in any of the billion threads about problems with the new CB, but could a potential source of crashes be when two people are simultaneously accessing the CB and trying to build a character with one account? I know there was a lot of account sharing going on with the old CB. I ask because when the new CB first rolled out I tried to use it at the same time as a friend on a shared account (I know, against the Terms of Use). We both crashed constantly, and would get messages about some character we weren't working on being lost. Eventually we realized what was going on, and it seemed at least moderately more stable when only one of us worked on it and recently I got through a high level build from scratch without any serious hitches (other than power-swapping at high levels not showing options) and no crashes at all. |

Based on what I have read, There were both problems with too many people(on different accounts) trying to use it at once, and unexpected server issues(probably exasperated by said). Both of these issues seem to be either dealt with, or in the process of being dealt with(WOTC communication regarding these seems to have dried up, possibly because of vitriol). |

It probably shouldn't be supported as it is against Terms of Use anyway. Just trying to help the troubleshooting process. |
| #5WotC_TrevorNov 22, 2010 13:37:15 | This is actually in one of the two sticky threads I'm running up at top: community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/758... Account sharing can cause crashes, but as dracomax mentioned, we are having some other issues. I'm hopeful I'll have more information about those to bring back later today. |
| #6VaeronNov 22, 2010 14:26:26 | This is actually in one of the two sticky threads I'm running up at top: community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/758... I haven't had any crashes since the 16th, personally, so I think it might just be overload in general. Though, since Silverlight is always updating and there is a recovery process, I can see how multiple users on the same account could get out of hand really quickly. Whatever the case, I'm glad to see it's being addressed. Thanks for the fast response Trevor, glad to see these issues are being actively monitored! |
| #7WotC_TrevorNov 22, 2010 15:15:10 | It's actually not overload, we were able to determine that pretty early on. They're still working on the specifics so we can get a fix implemented, but there are some issues with the server and the program that are causing some crashes with some people. We've identified some specific corner cases that may be affecting some people, but are still looking into the bigger issue. I'll drop by with an update when I get it. |

So basically they don't know whats going wrong, but they are working on it... That's all you gotta say, we're all intellegent people here, heck most of us are coders ourselves, we understand... |
| #9Joe_PacelliNov 24, 2010 6:38:07 | This is actually in one of the two sticky threads I'm running up at top: community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/758... I understand account sharing is not correct, and as a DM I can understand telling my players they need to get there own account. But what about sharing my account with my 17 year old son. He also plays in the campaign I run and just enjoys creating characters and he uses my account. I can't afford to pay for 2 DDi accounts. Plus, I also want to login multiple times from my PC, I've got 3 monitors and wanted to compare some PC's side by side, I can't even do this myself |
| #10dracomax1981Nov 24, 2010 8:59:24 | I shouldn't think your son using it would be a problem, so long as you aren't trying to use it at the same time. As for viewing multiple characters, it's not supported at the moment, really, but you can print to pdf and have pdfs of 2 of them while editing the third. Just be aware that many people are reporting extremely large pdfs. I would expect at some point they''ll have a character viewer, or a seperatly viewable Character sheet, or the ability to have multiple characters open at a time(with the ability to rearange the CB) |

That being said, I am slightly more optimistic than you. I think they are trying to turn it into somthing acceptable, I just don't expect much feature parity before June or July. Of course, You could probably discount me as being to new at the whole ddi thing--a bright eyed greenhorn who hasn't been broken down yet. Of course, I'm profoundly cynical, so that probably helps. |
| #13lokiareNov 27, 2010 12:31:07 | I shouldn't think your son using it would be a problem, so long as you aren't trying to use it at the same time. So then you haven't been here since the beginning when they promised us all these tools on release day of 4E? or before that with master tools? Or the abandonment of the CBC, and the crippling of both the CBC and MB, or they lying about not being able to put Dark Sun and Essentials into the CBC (which has been proven now to be a lie), or the fact that it appears that all they did with the OCB is take the CBC engine and put it behind the server wall? Well check my sig for a thread with all the details... |

No, I've actually only been on these forums since a week before the announcement of the Online CB. I have been playing 4e sin ce launch using pencil, paper, and dice. So really, I have a hard time getting worked up because a company is doing idiotic things to the online service which I've paid a grand total of $25 for. I've paid more than that for Dinner. If things don't work, I can always pay for a moth here and there to create a character, but since I rarely look to minmax characters, I am as likely to just use my books. The real benefit of this, and the reason I signed up for it, is as a DM, because their encounter generator(which is an online webdealie already) made picking out critters for encounters really easy and fast. the monster builder is a bonus. |
