Crossbow shows up red

Sep 21, 2011 21:41:43 I am new and currently creating a mul/barbarian in the character builder software. My question is about purchasing weapons. I select a simple two handed crossbow, but it shows up red in my inventory. It will not allow me to equip it. Why can't I weld the crossbow?

Not sure why it won't let you equip it, but it SHOULD show up red: Barbarians are only proficient with simple and military melee weapons.

That's right. Barbarians don't know how to use a bow and arrow.

Sep 21, 2011 21:56:11 Also, are you going to the "equip" tab of Your Inventory? You can't equip it from the main Inventory page, but I seem to be able to equip it on my Equip page. This was also making a Mul Barbarian

Not sure why it won't let you equip it, but it SHOULD show up red: Barbarians are only proficient with simple and military melee weapons.

Which leaves them with a large number of heavy things that they can hurl at their foes.

That's right. Barbarians don't know how to use a bow and arrow.

If you want to simulate a "barbarian" who can bullseye womprats at a distance of 100 meters, you create a Ranger and make him part of a barbarian (culture, not class) tribe. You can even keep the Primal connection. Thanks to Heroes of the Forgotten Kingdoms, the Ranger now has a bunch of Primal Utility powers to choose from.

I wasn't being serious, I was being snarky. I just find silly that they don't know how to use bows and arrows. I'm more than aware that I can re-flavor any other class to fit what I want it to be.

By the way, are there any good builds for a barbarian that throws things?

They're called Seekers. ;)

As all Barbarian powers are Melee, I don't see a lot of (any?) benefit in speccing for ranged combat as a Barbarian. If you want to get at something a few squares away, charge builds are far more effective. There is a hand slot item that allows you to throw your weapon and have it return and an axe / hammer enchantment that gives the weapon the heavy thrown property. I think this is about all you need to do if you want to have a ranged option for those few times when there simply isn't any enemy that you can get within hacking distance of and you still want to do your main weapon damage instead of going down a few die categories.
