I was excited when I discovered that you can create a custom background on Character Builder for you PCs rather than use those set up on WOTC Worlds.  While I like the "General" backgrounds they do not always fit with our home campaign setting.  I attempted to create a few cultural backgrounds for our home setting but had no luck.  The backgrounds did not appear on the character sheet nor register in the rules when the character sheet was printed out.  Example:  In our home campaign PCs from the Pirate Isles gain a +1 to Thievery and Athletics as a background.  How can I get this to register with Character Builder?  Can I save this so I can use it repeatedly along with other backgrounds or will I have to add it each time?  Will the background rules be adjusted into the printed character sheet or must the Player add them in?

Thanks DDI friends!

No one?  No ideas or suggestions?  Everyone just using the pre-made PC backgrounds?

It seems to be a bug in accepting custom background text.

I did find a way to add benifits to the character sheet. Now if the "choose custom" button would work, we'd have a workable method.

It does tag your character as houseruled, however. And you can't set a bonus that's not already in the system. (You can't give a +1 bonus to atacks or +3 to nature. It has to be something that's already in the system.)

First, select one of the other backgrounds that has the background bonus you want. Then select the bonus you want applied. Next, go back to the background, and unselect it. The bonus remains!

If the "choose custom" button were working, everything would be peachy. Until then, just leave it blank and have the player fill in the character sheet by hand.

Webster you rawk!

Big thanks!  Now I hope I can find the backgrounds I want within the pre-set campaigns.
