Custom items in the CB

So, recently Trevor's posted about adding the ability to have custom items in the CB.

I am intrigued. Now the offline had the ability to have custom items, but in a limited sense. I've got a couple custom items in my game, and it would be great if their properties could be factored into the math.

So, WoTC is this the plan, or is it just going to be like the the offline. A house rule that doesn't work with the math?

What's the point if they don't impact anything on the char sheet???  Seems like a lot of wasted effort for no gain if so.

I agree Dane. Not just damage but a full Customization in order of Properties or Skill Bonus for some gears and weapons.

If i want to Modify say an Warhammer to become a  Lucern Hammer and be a Polearm Group with a Reach 2 dealing 1d12.

Or Superior Lockicks giving a +4 Thievery or Dark Clothing giving a +2 to Stealth Check.

That all these mods be factored into the CB. The intent here is to have them impacted on a Character Sheet.

I haven't seen anything saying that. They didn't make an impact in the stand alone, so there's no guarentee that it will make an impact here, is there?

I know. Thats a wish. It isn't what you wish too when you say factored in the math ?

Did they say that? I missed that. Can you point to the post saying that, please?

You're apparently ignoring me Dane, but I think it's implied.  If they (Wizards) is saying "We're going to add an 'Item Builder' to allow you to make custom items", then what is the point of such an announcement if it doesn't work with CB.  It makes no logical sense because such a tool (that doesn't integrate to CB) would be useless (ie a waste of time for them to make as well as for us to use).

Just because you post doesn't mean I'm obligated to respond. To think so seems rather arrogant of anyone.

Dane, I think Plaguescarred was referring to you saying that - you said it would be nice if it was factored into the math, and in similar vein Plaguescarred said he thought it would be nice if they would do some other things, and then there was some confusion. You two seem to be talking past each other.

Yeah, I think so too.

All I remember was reading they were going to put in custom items. I don't remember anything about them adding an Item builder per say.

The last time they allowed custom items, they did NOT factor into the character sheet. So I'm curious as to what exactly they mean. I can't find the post that talked about adding custom items, so I can't double check exactly what was said.

So I made a post hoping to get more information.

Thanks Mock to bring us on the same Page. Yeah we don't really know what it will be but i just wish it will impact on maths too.

My feeling, it will be Custom Item just like the CBC had. Renaming of existing Items as well as damage expression value change and creation of new one.

If it goes into a tab letting you assign Properties and benefits to them, now that would rock a pop.

Will see...

Thanks for the link. Like I thought, all it says is

Implement custom items into the equipment section.

When they did this with the offline CB, it didn't figure the math in. There is nothing saying an item builder. To be honest, that would probably be a whole seperate tool in the Adventure Tools, and then allow you to import the items you make from the cloud (I just wanted to say that).

So, my question is valid, and I would not be surprised if the redesign of the market place is a step towards having that happen. When they introduce the ability to have custom items, will they also introduce an Item Builder at the same time?

Who knows, that's why I'm asking.

So, they have wasted time in the past putting in the ability to add custom items, that don't effect the math on the character sheet in the past, there's no saying they won't do it that way again.

So, again, can we get some idea about this ability to add custom items?

I would really like a item builder that would allow things to modify the math... I have a house rule allowing over 30th level items and a game with an atraficer who will be able to (in theory) make 42nd level items some day... And wants his goal to be to make a+8 longsword

And as I've been saying all along, if what you fear is true then I don't even want it.  It is DBA (dead before arrival).  Items that can be renamed, but don't affect the math are useless to CB.  I think rather than asking Dane, we need to push this so WotC understands that one implementation (renaming) is useless and they shouldn't even bother, and that the other isn't (useless).

I just wanted to chime in on how sorely needed this is. The offline builder actually has this capacity if you know what you're doing, so its a shame you can get more utility through breaking the TOS than following the official, currently supported project. Every game I've played in for the last 20+ years has had some kind of DM produced content, via spell, item, feat, race, or whatever. They need to crack open the builder for us to tinker with.

Seconded.

The idea that an official tool for DnD doesn't allow the DM to create custom content is mindboggling.

Sometimes the items in adventurer's vault work just fine, other times I crack open Encylopedia Magica.

Give us DMs some love!
