Is there a way to add a custom portrait to a character sheet?

Nope, not for now.

Just about every question that starts with "Is there a way to..." can be answered "no."  On the other hand, the lack of such questions with a positive answer does seem to say that what options there are can be found without too much trouble.  Or something like that.

I know there is a yes to, "Is there a way I can cancel my DDI subscription?"

I just want an option to REMOVE the portrait, so that i dont have to spend a hell of a load of ink printing the character sheet.

And also a minimalistic template for the character sheet, the two are very nice, but also a total waste of ink.

I would like to see the custom character image upload as an option.  I can see that this could be an online storage issue, so I would be fine with file size restrictions for images.

Yes this is absolutely required and I'm just shocked that it was not available at launch.

Personally, I don't mind not having the ability to upload a portrait at launch, but they should have a blank option (especially since we do have the ability to change which portrait we select).

The portrait selection should not load every single portrait from every race, on wifi its painfully slow waiting for them all to load. You should have an option that limits the portraits by race, not all races at once. I dont care what kobold looks like when I'm making a tiefling, but I have to wait for all races to load first as it is alphabetical.

Not with any patched, modern and well-implimented application server you can't.

Their concerns are probably with the amount of complexity file uploads present and potential legal issues involving copyright and pornography. Of course, they're protected by the safe harbor clause that makes the Internet possible, but it doesn't mean it doesn't scare the bajezes out of them.

I agree that custom portraits (and/or no portrait) is a pretty crucial feature, but it'd just like to know that it's on the roadmap.

I'm gonna bet its more of a copywright issue.

If I can troll the internet and find a picture I like, then upload it to WOTCs servers. That could potentially put WOTC on the line for a copywright infringment lawsuite.

Yes, and its more than that even unfortunately.  If you read the EULA, they actually own your character.  Its their IP now.  So, they can use it freely in any of their series or worlds and even plan a line of oferrings around your character if they so choose.  In that regard it is imperative that they only use already owned and copyrighted images to associate with their product.

Well what's the problem with linking to an image that you yourself upload to dropbox? No copyright issues there, at least not on WotC's part.

Why would they do that?  They don't own a piece of your character then if they allow that.

A lot of people keep guessing that as the reason. In reality, it almost certainly isn't. After all, we can do that right now for our forum image. I could go grap a copyrighted picture and use it for my forum image (in fact, I am, though I made it so I own the copyright). But if I used someone else's work without permission, and they cared enough to send WotC a takedown notice, WotC could just remove it and be in the clear. As long as they respond to takedown notices, they're legally fine. If they can do it for the forum, where the pictures are actually avaliable to the general public, they can do it for the OCB, where the number of takedown notices would be much, much smaller due to the limited visibility of character portraits (acutally, no visibility right now, but that may change as they add features).

And that's even assuming the copyright owner cares enough to serve the takedown notice, which they usually don't for little stuff like this.
