#1 valis_dup Aug 13, 2008 9:32:53	So far the D&DI is still under construction and they are still adding/editing things and what not, I understand this. However, take a look at the mess that the compendium is. I mean holy crap it's like they took everything and just plopped them all together. Take for example (the worst) the powers. Sure, you can section them off to be organized by class, level etc, but what if I want to organize it by class and level? What if I want to see only fighter powers? Instead of organizing it by class then browsing to the fighter section and then looking at the powers jumping from level to level. Same with feats. Any plans to fix this? Am I missing something completly? Is there currently a way to further bring down my search? Thoughts?
#2 balanced Aug 13, 2008 11:44:38	Overall, I think they may have made an error in going with a custom solution instead of using something made for this kind of purpose, like a simple MediaWiki install. Let's see. Out of the box we get: Easy editing (No need to 'push' big blocks of changes. Access Control (I.E. material might only be accessible by subscribers, and only WotC staff can edit.) Support for images Support for multiple categories. (So a Fighter Feat that works with an Axe can be categorized under Fighter stuff, Feats, and Axe stuff all at once) Support for templates. However, if I was in charge of the Compendium (assuming moving to a wiki platform was out of the question), I'd want to trim the UI down (it's a huge ugly frame around a search box! Combining 'ugly' and 'simplistic' all in one!). Similarly, the display of search results needs to exceed what similar interfaces provide (Again, here's where a wiki install would simplify things...). As is, this is something where the 'official' solution is costing more and doing less than the unofficial options that will likely sprout up.The only thing protecting the revenue stream is the legal action, not making a better product.
